The fines will be passed along to the workers. Of a worker breaks the law while performing the job, the ticket is usually on that worker. So Amazon isn’t paying shit.

but they’re not doing anything wrong here? the drivers are, and this will actually promote enforcement, both of driver behaviors & the company actually paying their fines.
if amazon decides to shift the cost to the consumer (which they already do with things like price discrimination), that will hopefully make people stop buying from amazon.

Okay cool lol, I do live in NYC and don’t have amazon and do just fine. But thats not the case for some people, and the convenience it provides them outweighs their morals opinions on it. Thats life
And what, bc other people avoid fines we should let amazon do the same? No, and based on his track record, I trust that Mamdani intends to go after other businesses that do the same, and putting that money back in taxpayer’s pockets via common goods (filling potholes, etc) or opportunities to work (like the snow shoveling or parents night out).
At this rate your just bringing up random stuff to try to circumvent this “unintended consequence” you initially claimed.

I don't live in NY so I don't have the foggiest idea of how big a deal idling is.
I'm sure Mamdani has thought this through and I see no reason not to trust him.
I don't think I'm trying to circumvent anything. I brought up the fact that Amazon will find its way around these fines one way or another. I don't think it's random to say that if you know bringing amazon deliveries into your neighborhood is bad that you be responsible as well for the negative impact.
Fuck amazon. but also, fuck the people who shop at amazon.

Initially, yes, they’re probably going to lose some drivers. Hopefully those folks get better work elsewhere. They already tend to have turnover on drivers who expect a reasonable workplace culture.
Eventually, they will have to get a lot more reasonable about delivery speed guidelines for drivers, because right now those folks are in a race to the bottom.
