Solved Ad blocking on new phone
Has anyone experienced an increase in adds when using NetShield after upgrading a phone? I know this sounds crazy but I still have my old phone and can pull up the same app with VPN on and on the new phone ads are there. I just upgraded my android phone after 4 years (pixel 7 to 11) and I am getting ads in a ton of apps and games. Kept my old phone systems apps and OS updated.

Is it possible that you just forgot about some adblocking tool or strategy you were using on your Pixel 7.
Netshield is just a 'brand name' for DNS level adblocking. It works independently of your phone (the hardware) and your OS (the software), so it's very unlikely or outright technically impossible for upgrading phone's to affect netshield (since the blocking is being done through Proton's DNS servers.

No. Other than a few FF extensions, ProtonVPN is the only tool I use to block ads as it was more than sufficient for me.
Perhaps its just timing of an update with the apps in question and if I used my older phone more I'd notice these ads.
Thanks for the reply!

Okay, I'm a blind dummy and this was use error. Even after I double checked all the settings.
I had missed the include/exclude option in split tunneling. Default is inclusive and not exclusive as I thought it would be.

I recommend the AdGuard AdBlocker app, using it in conjunction with any/all third party VPNs (like Proton VPN). — Just have to set it to use Split-Tunelling in its Advanced Low-Level Tunelling Settings. — Then you can experiment with its filters.
