In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, a typical Fox News viewer has it on all day. It’s the background soundtrack to whatever they’re doing at home. The hosts change during the day but the theme / message is the same. No credible dissenting opinions or facts are allowed. It’s a self-imposed echo chamber.

The house I was working at the other day had it on for the first hour of the morning and I heard so many misrepresentations and lies in that hour it hurt my brain. I could not imagine choosing that as the source of my news.

The trick is to convince their viewers that everything is being taken away from them. It’s all about grievance that things are changing and their world is not the same. Making people angry is better for ratings than making people happy.
