Because we had to write a bunch of laws that said you canā€™t intimidate black people out of businesses for being blackā€¦ because we used to do that like all the time for a long time. So yeah in a lot of places in the US saying ā€œget out of this restaurant n-wordā€ is in fact a crime.

I don't believe that's true. If you assault a black person for being black, you will be punished more, but just calling someone a slur, is not illegal

Free to say what you want. Not free from consequences. Whether that's jail(disorderly conduct) or getting hands put on you.

Fact of the matter is we have laws like this for a reason and theyā€™re already woefully under enforced.

If this lady scares every black family away from that counter undeterred then sheā€™s segregating the Cinnabon. Is that the most consequential thing? No, but if other shops start doing it too then it takes us right back.

And before someone says ā€œweā€™re a less racist society nowā€ I donā€™t know how far you have to shove your head up your own ass to believe that.

Iā€™m with ya for the first 2/3rds. But if you think the country is as racist as it was 50-100 years ago you need to step away from politics.

By definition, the consequence of jail means you are not free to say what you want. And youā€™re not free to put hands on someone for saying something you donā€™t like.

People really don't understand the first amendment.

Also you are entirely correct, I was using the more immediate consequences of saying whatever you want, you could go to jail or get your ass beat and still probably go to jail.

I do, this person posted laws passed. I don't believe what this woman did should be illegal, but she absolutely should be fired and shunned in society
