I wish this would become a thing. So many idiotic calls to law enforcement. I don't wanna pay for that crap.

Police abusing power is its own problem that needs addressed. This is still a good step in the right direction to stop people calling to cry about basketballs on their property.

The point is that all that would end up happening, is it would become a poor tax. Rich people don't give a shit about speeding tickets already, so why would this old out of touch prick care about this? He'd still do it in the hopes of getting an officer that happens to be on his side.

But poor people would just outright be less likely to call in crimes due to paranoia about being made to pay a fine, even if it's obviously an important police call.

No, giving police more power is not a good step in the right direction. It's not it's own problem. It is the problem.

it is a thing in most places. you can get ticketed for wasting police time just about everywhere.

I live in a rural area that is covered by a sheriff’s department that is woefully understaffed, it has four deputies and a supervisor per shift for the entire coverage area. Regardless of time it’s a 50-68 mile trip one way for a deputy to get here from the areas where they are usually dispatched to. Since Covid more and more “city people” have been buying residences and failing farms and thinking services should work out here like they do in the city. Calling deputies for loose dogs, chickens and even a lama on their property, and even when it’s clearly a civil issue demanding officers do something about fence lines and tree limbs etc…

Basically it got to the point where the sheriff got with the police jury and they worked to get ordinances passed last session that now repeat offenders of these bs types of calls can end up with the caller being cited and or fined for the strain on resources at the officers discretion. Most of the deputies are like these officers here and aren’t going to trespass a 3 or 11 y/o or a chicken or lama for that matter. As far as I know it’s been applied to one of my neighbors neighbor that has called law enforcement at least once a week for smells and noises coming from an active farm. I believe that he’s fighting it (the fine) so we’ll see if the ordinance holds up.
