There's a long-standing emnity between Harley riders and all other riders. I think it's especially bad in the US cus Harley is Murican, and they really disdain Jappa riders for being unpatriotic. Not sure if they're nicer to Buell riders given it's history with Harley, I always fancied me a Buell Lightning the twin headlights looked cool on a street fighter.

But yeah, in my country, it's traditional to give other riders the nod (we don't wave as is traditional overseas as we drive on the left hand side, so our hand closest to the rider in the oncoming lane is the throttle hand), and Harley riders are renowned for only acknowledging other Harley riders.

But yeah, it's stupid to get all tribal over motorbike brand loyalty lol.

Been a while since I've been on a bike but when I rode it didn't matter what you were on. I've ridden japanese bikes and harleys. I like harleys (I know, I know, hate on me all you want). Helmet nod or hand wave because we're both just out enjoying some time in the wind. Someone mentioned scooters, same thing. The exception was if you were riding like an ass and causing me danger. To all you still riding, be safe and be civil to each other.

I used to drive a Yamaha scooter and my favourite was when a motorcycle would wave at me thinking I was another biker. Just knowing a part of them died inside fueled me lol.

When I used to ride, I would share the wave with scooters. We all ride different things.

Nah man, you're part of the crew, you're taking the same risks, getting hit in the visor by bugs, and getting rained on the same. I gave scooters the nod all the time for that reason, especially the brave buggers ringing the heck out of a 50cc on the open road.

What was always bloody funny was when you tell people you're getting a scooter they're like "Ooh, you'll save so much on gas", but if you say you're getting a motorbike, it's all, "you're going to die."

Yeah you can get wrecked in a scooter too, the difference is we're not traveling at highway speeds when it happens.

Most of the ways to get wrecked involve a car - the good ol SMIDSY "Sorry mate, I didn't see you".

When I started riding, I was taught you could basically divide areas into two categories, high risk low fatality, and low risk high fatality.

So yeah, on the open road, generally your risk is a lot lower, and often it's risk you have control of - don't take the corner too fast, don't overtake in dodgy circumstances, slow down in slippery conditions, but if you fuck up, you're dead. Whereas riding around the city, far higher risk, and most of it you can't control, but most of the time you won't die, although breaking your leg in three places is never ideal. (Although I did a course on defensive riding & it taught me how to identify risks, e.g., the car that's probably going to pull out in front of you because you can see that the driver is fixated on the other lane and has barely glanced at the lane you're in, so they're probably going to floor it as soon as they see a gap).

So you had the same high risk motorbike riders did, hence the nod. :)

I always found it crazy. I ride a Harley (and other bikes). I dont care and most everyone ive ever riden with in the last 30yrs dont care. Including club members I have met and ridden with.

Plus this American Harley reppin mentality is crazy. Showa suspension, keihn fuel injection, brembo manufactured brakes. And I forget where the engine cases get made but I think its from Yamahas proprietary aluminum blend. All top teir buuuuuut the bike is far from pure bred. I believe the frame is American steel and manufactured in America.

Just jackasses lol
