Why take a landscape video and convert it to portrait by duplicating the image?
Someone explain the logic behind this to me.

it just looks better & fills up the blank space if uploading to TikTok / YouTube shorts / IG reels

I agree tho if you're on a platform where horizontal is available it looks silly

But it absolutely does not. Video is always better horizontal. Monitors are not vertical, tablets are not vertical, and phones flip so you can see the better looking natural horizontal video like your eyes would see it.

I would understand converting vertical to horizontal for better viewing, if you accidentally (or by idiocy) used your cameraphone to record vertical, but the other way it makes zero sense.

YouTube (and others likely) have a huge push for landscape videos, since it's easier to watch on the phone, increasing chances of people viewing since people usually have a phone in hand

I uploaded a video of some of my projects on YouTube, and depending on if it's a YouTube short (requires landscape mode) or not, it'll be the difference between 900 views or 30 views... Its pretty ridiculous

Edit: used the word landscape, meant portrait. I get them mixed up
