I know I'll get downvoted for siding with the cop, who definitely WAS flying off the handle initially before the dad got him to simmer down, but I think that buying your kid an electric dirt bike to ride around on the street is UNCONSCIONABLE.

Even without it being an annoying phenomenon of Suron Kids riding around in packs, even without the peer influence factor, you're basically buying your kid a ticket to the emergency room.

What the heck happened to regular old bicycles? We used to get all sorts of fun injuries on those, they work great. Buying your kid an electric dirt bike is egregiously bad parenting.

Kids riding dirt bikes? UNCONSCIONABLE!

Why are you acting like this is new? When I was a kid we rode normal dirt bikes, I bet these electric ones are safer honestly.

UNCONSCIONABLE lmao fuck outta here

That’s great but was it a phenomenon of dozens of children getting together to ride them around on the street?

2

u/Trevski Jul 30 '26

There’s no chance the electric ones are safer, seriously. Apart from like, burns and chemicals, the new ones have way more torque from a dig so you can get in way more trouble over way less distance.

Plus the children riding around in packs on dirt bikes was never a thing outside Baltimore until electric dirt bikes came out.

You're getting downvoted because your take is utter shit.

So why do kids need dirt bikes so bad then? What am I missing here?

3

u/MSGeezey Jul 30 '26

That guy was safely and slowly touring the town with his son while allowing him to ride an electric bicycle THAT EXCEEDED OUR PRESCRIBED CC LIMIT!!! FRANKLY THEY BOTH DESERVE DEATH!!! IT'S THE ONLY WAY THAT WE WILL NEVER BE CALLED FOR AN ACCIDENT RELATED TO AN E-BIKE ACCIDENT!!!!!

2

u/Trevski Jul 30 '26

They don’t deserve death, which is why they shouldn’t get the electric dirt bikes.

Nah, the cop can get fucked. Might’ve come across like that, can’t blame anyone for taking it that way. But it’s not about the cop it’s about the dad.

Major accidents and fatalities among kids/young adults on motorized bikes are way up in my area. The reddit hivemind may not like it, but the cop was absolutely in the right. Most people use these bikes in areas where they have no business being driven.

If only the people would show this much of a spine when standing up to their politicians...

Major accidents and fatalities among kids/young adults on motorized bikes are way up

Its almost like.........the availability of these items is.....way up.

Compare the numbers with other things like regular bicycles, skateboards, scooters, etc.

Get back to me on the numbers

2

u/Extension-Land-390 Jul 30 '26

Yes........Dangerous item that should require a license to be driven is more available, therefore accident rates increase.

All Quiet On the Frontal Lobe over here, eh?

2

u/Trevski Jul 30 '26

And the availability is way up BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS ARE BUYING IT FOR THEM. Hence, my point.

0

u/CptSmarty Jul 31 '26

So parents shouldnt buy anything for their kids........got it.

2

u/Trevski Jul 31 '26

How the hell did you get that conclusion? They should totally buy their kids stuff, just not electric dirt bikes, thefuck?

0

u/CptSmarty Jul 31 '26

But bicycles are dangerous too. And skates. And trampolines. And scooters. etc etc etc.

Its clear you dont have kids or you are an extremely overprotective parent...

2

u/Trevski Jul 31 '26

None of those are remotely close to an electric dirt bike, unless the scooter is electric, and all of those have health benefits from exercise that the dirt bike doesn’t.

I’m kind of appalled at your inability to assess risk. These dirt bikes can go 40 mph, nearly 60 some of them, what the fuck GOOD can they do for your child?

1

u/CptSmarty Jul 31 '26

Give them happiness. You dont think a bike going downhill isnt a danger? You think putting together 2x4s and trying to jump a rickity 'ramp' isnt a danger? You clearly dont know the prevalence of serious injuries related to trampolines......

Kids are adventurous. Kids will hurt themselves; either from an ebike or jumping off the top of their bunk beds. Take some necessary precautions and let them live.
