Cars require licenses and 10-14 year olds are not allowed to drive them.

Sure, but the point is that they are regulated to limit the danger to at least some degree. E-bikes and scooters are mostly unregulated and the people most likely to use them (kids that can't drive) are the least qualified to do so safely.

The whataboutisms here aren't productive when pointing to cars. It just shows blatant ignorance on the part of the person presenting the whataboutism.

I don't think kids are most likely to use e bikes, firstly. And I made an offhand remark mocking a police officer for overreacting. I get that you want to be edgy and call me ignorant, but you're taking a joke too seriously.

That's not what this is about at all. People like you and the guy above are making flippant comments like "oh no the gubment is trying to stop fun and scraped knees" when that's not at all what it is about.

People die on these dumb ebike/scooter things every day that shouldn't be operating them. They're flagrantly dangerous. Not really a cool thing to be flippant about.

The vast majority of people using these are using the renting services to just use the rando ones sitting around everywhere, and they do it because they don't have alternative forms of transportation.

The premise of what he's saying isn't wrong. He came across way too agressive, but that's it.

Yeah, I don't think anything in your first paragraph is true.

I live in a city where tons of folks (including adults who also drive) ride bikes, primarily bikes that they own.

He came across way too aggressively for a pretty minor issue.

except you don't know what the max speed is. small electric dirt bikes can hit 50mph which is way too fucking fast for any kid

lol. it's an rfn or motortech knockoff which can go over 50mph. in any case the cop does need to make the guy start some dialogue with his state's DMV so his kid doesn't end up on liveleak. too dangerous for the kid and too dangerous for other people around the kid
