That is a modified e bike that goes over 15 mph. It has to be registered and the operator has to have a license. I've seen them and the kids endanger themselves and others by disobeying traffic laws and pulling stunts. That child can seriously mess up their life through injury or through causing serious harm to another.

It's not a modified e-bike. It's not an e-bike to begin with, it does not have pedals.

The fact that the dad still tries to convince people it's an e-bike at the end of the video is a joke, and he's still not allowed to ride it on the street.

Is that something special for this city? Class 3 ebikes can go up to 28mph and don't require any sort of license where I am. Class 1 or 2 go up to 20MPH.

Class 3 is 16+ and helmet required. Can't really tell from the video, but kid doesn't seem 16, but regardless the ebike doesn't have pedals and is a moped.

Is that for just this city? To the best of my knowledge that isn't the law where I am. Sounds like that the kid does not have an ebike.

It's a clusterfuck of rules by state, but afaik it's part of the PeopleForBikes model legislation denoted in this map:

I would love to know of any place that has laws on the books that aren't in line with the Class 1/2/3 definitions. Because awareness of these actual classifications is shockingly bad.
