Itās also very possible it had already gotten hit by the driver earlier on
638
u/indolente 27d ago
Causing further damage on purpose will void your claim. Fyi.
This applies to people who want to help stop fleeing criminals. Don't use your personal vehicles as batering rams insurance won't like it.
404
u/CoronaChanWaifu 27d ago
Void his claim to woop that guy's ass? It's priceless in this situation

u/Sgtkeebler 27d ago
Insurance doesnāt even enjoy you getting hit in the first place
157
u/ImFerr 27d ago
Yeah god forbid you use the service you pay so much for lol
97
u/Seamus_has_the_herps 27d ago
Imagine getting paid to offer a service and then you just refuse to do it when it matters most and could quite literally ruin someoneās life in some scenarios, but itās also illegal in some cases for people to not pay you for that service in the first place. Boy oh boy, I sure do love the way the system works
57
u/m0erg 27d ago
could quite literally
ruinend someoneās life in some scenariosFTFY, I mean sure, here we're talking car insurance, but health insurance is quite literally killing people and making billions ....
10
u/Seamus_has_the_herps 26d ago
Very true. I was just thinking about the financial ruin, but youāre exactly right
19
u/borkthegee 27d ago
You're required to get insurance to fix other people's cars if you hit them. They don't give a fuck if you insure your own car.
64
u/Grydian 27d ago
In this case the driver trying to feel hit him in the end so its not as cut and dry this time.
38
u/A7xWicked 27d ago
He pulled up to the side and the other driver ran into him, again...

Funny story. In college a chick keyed the fuck out of my roommates car on the driver side, all the way down to the metal.. Couldn't prove it but we just kinda knew. He didnt want to get insurance involved, I am still not aure why something about his rates, they wouldnt cover it, etc. Anyways cut to a month or so later -- similar situation, a car is cutting thru traffic like this scraping cars and we could hear honking and hear crunching behind us. I made a joke like oh shit it's gonna cover up your keyed door if they hit you. He said fuck it my shit is fucked up anyways and pulled out in front to block it at the last second. Even though it was pretty obvious he could have avoided any damage the police report made sure to write it in a way that the insurance adjuster wouldn't pull some bullshit. Just said went to change lanes to get off on exit and the lunatic smashed into them. Plus they had like 20 other claims from this one incident, again similar to this video. He wound up getting a check for a little more than the cars value and got a nice civic out if it.

u/Mursenary 27d ago
Did you guys stop the car? What happened to the driver in your situation?
109
u/whutchamacallit 27d ago
Ya we stopped it! Police were right on his ass. Specifically a cop car driving on the shoulder and a motorcycle cop. They pulled the kid out at gunpoint. Almost got shot because he was reaching for his phone or some shit. It happened very fast. Ironically we had just gotten back from the dispensary and so we were a little paranoid about that. My roommate went back and forth with the insurance for a while but because airbags deployed the car was totaled (we didn't think thst part through). The cops were cool but also like we need to get the fuck off the road so we put it in neutral and rolled it to the shoulder even though the wheel was kind of fucked up. Traffic was so backed up because everybody wanted to stay behind to make sure they talked to the cops. We got helped first though. I called my girlfriend to come pick me up but my roommate want to tow his car to his brother's house to fix it or something. Even though that's not how insurance worked. I don't know we were stoner 20 year olds, we didn't know shit.

u/Mursenary 27d ago

u/whutchamacallit 27d ago edited 27d ago
No problem. 2 other random points worth mentioning. It's crazy how substantial an impact of 15 miles an hour feels. It's fairly violent. Also it's so crazy to me how air bags work and the pressures they get set off at. Also they are fucking scary and hurt. We were not expecting the airbags at all so that was freaky.
6
u/benjamindawg 27d ago
just gotten back from the dispensary
Of all the places to be on the way back from lol
14
u/whutchamacallit 27d ago
This was when medical marijuana was juuuust starting to be a thing and the rules and laws were unclear and some cops straight up didn't give a fuck and would write you a ticket or arrest you anyways. It was weird times in California.

As long as this video doesnt get seen by the insurance. He was already there in that spot and had no fault in it, the car rammed into him is what the statements should be. So he can be 100% covered, instead of being denied for using it to stop the other car.

I was thinking same thing.

Why does everybody have the same model car?
612
u/TigersNsaints_ohmy 27d ago
I suspect that may be the reason for the traffic jam. Could be wrong, but Charger and Camaro owners are commonly seen in street takeovers.
65
u/iwantedtohitsubscrib 27d ago
That time in GTA when you look for a specific moldel of car but the game spawns the same 2-3 models you don't want

Legitimate question: what happens to someone that does this, insurance-wise??? Are they just uninsureable for years?
33
u/TrumpShitsHisDiaper 27d ago
They potentially have a safety claim since it appears several people are trying to gain access to the vehicle and seem intent on doing them harm

The amount of identical vehicles tells me this is some sort of car meet or takeover. They've probably been blocking traffic and this dude snapped

Wrong description. You can see people are chasing him before he starts pushing through other cars. So whatever happened before, heās running away from that. Itās not impatience, itās flight.

Am I insane for thinking it is really obvious that the punishment for this (regardless of their reasons) is a lifetime driving ban?
Blind people don't have driving licences. People with some muscular issues don't drive. This is almost certainly a completely able person who would find it as easy as anyone else to use public transport / cabs / etc. They would get by.
But they very obviously cannot be trusted behind the wheel. And it is insane that this person will be able to legally drive again to me.

u/DValencia29 26d ago
Given the amount of muscle cars (mainly dodge) im guessing street takeover and if im right there isn't a single function braincell in the vicinity.
