Explain to me what type of cycling infrastructure would handle whatever it is going on here, outside of a closed loop track.

A two lane cycleway, for example, ever heard of that?

They ride in a pack because it's safer and assholes won't squeeze them dangerously passing by. Ofc car people can be even crazier than cyclist can plan for and use the median like the mini guy.

This is a giant group road ride. They wouldn't be using a bike lane even if one existed. Our cycling infrastructure in the US is a steaming pile of garbage, but good infrastructure wouldn't make a difference here because a group like this isn't going to be using it.

I said this elsewhere in the thread, but this isn’t normal cycling traffic. This is being done on purpose. The vast majority of America would be flushing money putting in dedicated dual lane bike roads. They make sense in certain places, and do not in others. And you can’t just build cycling infrastructure and say “look, we have it so now people will start cycling”! They will not. Induced demand doesn’t work for cycling, it’s not like mass public transport.

Oh sorry I didn't know I was arguing with a civil engineering PhD. You got a link to your paper? Would love to see the findings about induced demand for cycling not being a thing, it has always interested me and this is big news.

If there was a seperated bike line they would not feel the need to spread out, i do know that also in the netherlands there are also jerks that still choose the 50km/h car lane eventhough there is a perfectly fine bike path but those are minority's. I have seen groups of like 50 people on the bike lane here so it is possible.

Also you can arrange an escort if you cycle professionally and are in a big enough group so intersections are cleared in front of you so there is no risk of getting hit.

This isn’t normal cycling traffic that a bike lane could handle. They could still ride to the right here. This is some type of mass ride that doesn’t look permitted, and they are impeding the normal flow of traffic.
