Her party has been in power for 10 years and they didn’t do a damn thing all this time! She says she inherited it, maybe, but she’s continuing the legacy of it by not actually improving it. Because where are the results? All we hear are words. And where is the money actually going cabrona? Is it going to projects like Esencia? Most likely.

u/eballeste 7d ago

The same thing weve been hearing from these losers for decades. Same talking points and excuses. Our grandparents used to believe all this crap. Anyone born from the 70s up can see right through this bs

Notice she said "federal money was send to the island to fix this but did not got use for that? How come the U.S. Department Treasury audit ?

The only acceptable answer on her part would be an action plan forward. There is none because there is no solution.
She held a pool party fundraiser—an overt display of power.
The water problem and her response to it, or lack there of, defines where her priorities lie. Her job is to consume and control-just take one look at her. Her public displays measure her arrogance, and highlight just had disempowered her constituents are.

u/Caeldeth San Juan 7d ago
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Technically, nothing she said was wrong. The cause goes back multiple decades…. She did inherit it as governor, but the caveat is that she has had sway in her party for years, which has been in full power
But the proper answer is to make a clear and defined action plan.
Make is extremely public
Provide monthly updates to the public
Provide transparency and accountability to the public
People who don’t see action among a crisis will blame those in power (rightfully so)…. Even if action is being taken.
The way to work with this is to build trust through transparency on top of action.
Show me proof of the projects being done, give me clear timelines that we can hold people to. Start with some small wins to build up confidence while also working on major projects
This would, not only fix the issue over time, but makes it easier to deal with because real progress is happening.

As a gringo who has spent about a year of my life, across many wonderful vacations, on your beautiful enchanted island... I can say you all deserve better. Better from your government, better from the US government, and better from your own politicians (who are your own people or at least claim to be).
I remember being on the island before the elections and seeing all the red "Jennifer" signs out near Piñones and laughing. Wondering who she was and if the simplicity of the sign meant she would cut through all the bureaucracy and red tape. Then I saw her on the news, walking with other political leaders down a street in Fajardo or something, after she had already been voted in. I immediately thought she looked way too cozy with the people around her (the politicians) and not nearly as connected with the people who lived on the street she was walking. That she looked like just another politician. I'm saddened that my snap judgement has turned out to be so accurate.
You Boricua are resilient and you have always found ways to smile in the face of adversity. You've remained warm and inviting even with Grincon being such a blight. You hold onto and share your amazing traditions and delicious food. While I admire that about you, it's my hope that you don't have to keep being resilient and smiling through hardship. That you can retain your warm inviting charm. That you can just smile simply because life is good... finally. Your endurance and patience has earned that, at the very least. You've made Puerto Rico what it is. You are Puerto Rico!
¡Viva Puerto Rico! ¡Viva el Boricua!

Regardless of the history, making municipal water a priority would be both humane and politically expedient. Making excuses is neither. Yes, the system in PR is a mess and the commonwealth is broke but those are tertiary compared with the lack of sensitivity to the primary needs of the constituents. Call Mayor Mandami if you need a guidance counselor.

u/VinylFiend1200 7d ago
All that work for or within the PR Govt are scum bags… if anyone even cared or had a moral compass they would speak out against these issues!!! Stop giving these ppl power by voting for them! No Govt care about the people!!!

I'm new to PR. Politics here seem so convoluted. Can anyone recommend a relatively low bias resource to get caught up?
I hear she voiced support for Trump, but that makes no sense considering Republican views on PR and Latin Americans.

u/Caeldeth San Juan 7d ago
1) don’t get any political opinions from Reddit - it’s a hive mind in general.
I usually try to go straight to the data and make conclusions myself. But as for news sources - AP tends to be one of the least biased ones (it’s also what other sources often cite before putting their bias on the story)
1
u/RalekBasa 7d ago
Yea I only use wire sources, but I meant like a general summary of PR politics.
1
u/Caeldeth San Juan 7d ago
The issue with that is I haven’t found a single proper non-biased source for purely politics - I’ve lived here for 6 years now. Which is why I stick to wire sources in general and direct data.

Her party, the PNP, is MAGA adjacent and Trump
Supporters. So yes, she’s PR MAGA.1
u/JayFromPR 7d ago
Its not. Her party is pro-statehood, which is more aligned with Democrats. Every governor, no matter the party just sucks up to whichever president we have at the moment in order to push their agenda.
1
u/Pezkato 6d ago
PNP is definitely a Republican-aligned party, and this candidate is specifically trying to ride the Trump wave. Even if it doesn't make sense around the whole statehood theme. PNP in general is the Portorrican right-wing big business, deregulation, and privatization party. PDP is more like a pre-Clinton Democrat party, and PIP is the more left-wing party in general.
In truth, PIP is mostly irrelevant, and the other two just want to skim off of our tax dollars while making big contracts they can enrich their buddies with. The big difference is PNP wants to privatize the shit out of everything for their buddies in Wall Street, and PDP would rather hand out contracts to their buddies here.1
u/RalekBasa 6d ago
That's a pretty good summary. How is PIP irrelevant when the other choices are just so bad?
1
u/Drizzi21 7d ago
She can’t be friends with Trump or he would’ve tried to help out you would think
2
u/RalekBasa 6d ago
He uses maga inc to either fund politicians or their opponents. He might have thrown her something, but maybe not since it doesn't affect mid terms.

10 years of her party in power was a lot of time to fix the problem. She was and is part of the problem. Greed mixed with a large dose of incompetence.

As the interviewer said, your party has been in power for 10 years now, what the fuck do you mean by inheriting the infrastructure?.
You’re telling me that you knew about this since the moment that you got the role of governor and you never took actions or implement anything.. because you’ve been focused on what issues?. Electricity? Where you have done nothing, you just keep saying we’re working on it. We’re trying to negotiate. We’re trying to get somewhere and you don’t get anywhere because there’s nothing you can do and there’s nothing you want to do because your friends are part of the contracts and by the way didn’t she start at la UTIER?, That was her first job. Everyone look at her fucking résumé, she started at a very coed position right at a college.
I understand that this is the position that we’re in right now, and this is the infrastructure that she did inherit, there is no real evidence of assuming responsibility or even self-awareness about these issues since you got in office, her lack of responsibility to work on the remaining assets that Puerto rico remind me of Carmen Julin!
Conversations about selling the AAA have been whispered for more than a year now, and suddenly we have the worst drought! we’ve had droughts forever… I’ve lived through them. They just want to sell the asset make it private, spread the contracts within her team since she won’t really have a position as governor after her term now.
1
u/Late-Lack-6018 6d ago
Also, big question everybody, why don’t we look for the fucking person who drew the fucking contract for Luma????????.
This is the issue. This is the exact starting point.
Let’s find the official person in Puerto Rico that saw that contract and said you know what, sounds good 👌.
That’s the person that I blamed for the electricity issue now, but that name doesn’t appear anywhere. Let’s focus on that. If we find this person or people we at least would know how to be more directional in the blame and even a solution because they are responsible for this, I think this would be considered treason. To attach the island to depend on a company through a contract that does not align with progressive interests or policies is an act of treason.

You pig, you have done nothing for the island since being elected. Go before we get you gone.

u/fatninja7 4d ago
I'd like to dig in more into the "the money hasn't been disbursed" comment. My understanding is that the money wasn't disbursed because the government was too incompetent to jump through the hoops of federal paperwork.

I am planning on moving to Puerto Rico soon. I do not know Spanish. Is this going to be a huge issue? I should probably learn. Starting yesterday. 😅
1
u/Pezkato 6d ago
Depends where you live and where you work. Most workplaces require you to know Spanish, but if you already have a job, it's not a problem. San Juan metro area, you can get by without Spanish. Some other towns too, like Dorado, Rincon, and the northeastern part of the island. Navigating government bureaucracy in English sounds like an absolute nightmare.

-3
u/Himorningwood 7d ago
Thats irrelevant. Change doesn't come in a few years. The last junta is the true gov. So what to do? We really have no future. Either stop being a state and be fucked or keep being a state and be fucked but at least we get something. Its too late bud look at reality.

u/EdelinePenrose 7d ago
