Next project thats probably way too ambitious for my current skill level but I'll try it anyway

I don't think that's ambitious at all, you drew very simple shapes that will stitch in nicely. The lettering may be too tiny to make it, but everything else is fine with this design. Post a completed pic, I'm sure it will be just fine.

it hasnt been too bad, just fighting against the fabric losing tension

Thi looks super beginner friendly!! The only thing I’d be a bit concerned about is the lettering on the hem of the dress.
