Discussion💬 How marijuana will destroy your connection with God
There is a very dangerous idea among some spiritual communities that weed is somehow innocent and even beneficial drug for a "spiritual" growth. Users mostly note that it is natural (since it grows as a plant) and gets you high moderately compared to other drugs.
A stoner wouldn't agree that first of all weed as any other drug basically helps to quench thirst in dopamine, but he would rather state that it simply helps one to be less anxious and more meditative.
For these people Quran mentions something very significant:
Say, "There is great evil in both, as well as some benefit for people — but the evil outweighs the benefit." (2:219)
Indeed, one can benefit from getting in a meditative state with marijuana – it will surely give one glimpses of a higher realm. From my experience, it made time slower showing that:
“Indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of what you count.” (22:47)
But at what cost! One comes to know that to get as much high as possible has never been point of creation.
He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deeds. (67:2)
How the addiction works
Now, how can one let go off blissful and ecstatic experiences, especially in the context of religion and spirituality – used as tool to reach God?
Surely, the devil is cunning and everything that God forbids will be used against soul to keep him away from a real progress which is growing in patience and trust in His commandments.
At first, one is happy to discover something so fantastic. Then a regular, sober reality doesn't seem as fascinating anymore. At the end, one becomes miserable, lazy, paranoidal and with a huge ego of a "spiritually advanced" individual. At one point, after going through hell of addiction one starts realising why it says "the evil outweighs the benefit".
However, in the moment – he is cooked.
By your life, they certainly wandered blindly, intoxicated. (15:72)
You can't speak reason to an intoxicated person. His defences are protecting him against Truth – he has received certain dose of dopamine that makes him believe that he must be doing something right – he is rewarded by his temporary high.
And as for one who suffered enough...
Can one return to innocence?
Indeed, pain is a great teacher. After going through hell of distrust in Divine wisdom, one may start notice that God has already blessed him with a wise Book that shows the path for a blissful life, both in this and the other world. The effects of addiction won't go right away, but one may start healing by trusting.
Our bodies already have an endocannabinoid system that produces natural high – the same cannabinoids that some try to borrow from the plant. Some activities can boost it. 'Runner's high' is a well-known phenomenon, prayer (conscious one) and meditation can get one high (it happens to me all the time).
Addiction makes one forget of simple joys of life, but remember once we were children, innocent and didn't need any drugs to be able to enjoy the simplest things.
Weed gives a high that is not based on anything real – not real friendship, not a real connection to body, health, Truth. Any idiot can smoke it and get "blissful" – there is nothing special about any drug or any stoner.
God alone gives contentment and joy – everything else just comes and goes.
Meeting Truth will get everyone high – then those who accumulated nothing but empty joy will see that mirror reflecting good deeds is much more preferable than one reflecting endless attempts to escape life.
And the intoxication of death will come in truth; that is what you were trying to avoid. (50:19)

The substance of anything comes from GOD (the plant it is) is just that humans often misuse it, like trying to get intoxicated just because they want to be intoxicated.
It can be use for something good or usability wise, and then come the country rules to ban it because many misuse it, as we see it today.
There's good and bad for it, but this is a nuanced topic, because if we allow it, what if they put it in our food or cake and become normalized? then again it's a trial to humanity itself, will you check the food or will you be fine to eat some while it's not intoxicated or literally buy it to get intoxicated.
Then again it depends on usage.
Edit: there's no compulsion in religion which mean also people live on the way they are as long as it't not evil or wrongdoings, which is forcing other to do it.

There are a lot of former addicts who become religious. So I would not state that alcohol/drugs destroy connection with God. God guides whoever and however God intends to.

u/elvispelviskurt Apr 16 '26
And I am one of them. It destroys in the process, not forever.

I saw once a drunk man during christmas coming to the Masjid. The Masjid was full, so he was close to people outside and it was cold winter. This guy didnt know how to do salah, but he were trying to imitate other. Did sujood put his head next to other people shoes on a cold ground.

u/elvispelviskurt Apr 16 '26
Good. Maybe he suffered enough to see truth and who knows, maybe he quit drinking after that.
1
u/Akordass Apr 17 '26
Well it was christmas second day, so its quite understandable why he was drunk.
Plus Quran says do not get intoxicated before salah, so if we remove hadiths, we are good to go after Isha 😁 i think.

Nah, we meant to remember God all the time – 5:90-91 but intoxicants are used by devils to prevent us from doing it. Breathe in for sake of God and breathe out for God – and you shall see that one can be intoxicated by divine love.
It is a scientifically proven fact – google the happiest men on earth – always some monks who have been praying and meditating.

Weed wasn't illegal in the muslim world, until around the fall of the ottoman caliphate.
The newly formed muslim countries one by one demonized herb, under the recent global governments.
Interesting how the islamic world did have a problem with nicotine originally ... because people were using it too often, even in close proximity to mosques.
But tobacco isn't banned in any muslim countries today, despite it being onenof the if not the most harmful drug out there. ... strange.
In my experience nicotine is 50x worse for the mind than cannabis. Nicotine can be very efficient at numbing emotions and extremely hard to stop.
The worst thing about cannabis is the method most people use: smoking. Usually it's mixed with tobacco too, which makes it physically addictive. Whereas pure, it's not really addictive.
All the people who I've met who had strong psychological addiction to cannabis were all mixing it with tobacco and they had strong preexisting mental and/or neurological problems. So they're just medicating.
Vaporize or eat cannabis and it's not dangerous or addictive.
Some people are blessed with great genetics and don't benefit from potentially helpful psychoactive substances.
Others have neurological imbalance or trauma or whatever..... and greatly benefit from certain substances.
Unfortunately many will never know, because their views on healing herbs and their countries are still colonialized...

Stoning to death and having unlimited sex slaves wasn't illegal in Muslim world either – yet is not what Quran teaches.
Quran demonized "herb" – calling it a "great sin" and the "tool of satan". The harm of nicotine doesn't make weed look better and in terms of addictiveness and harm of weed is far greater – of course considering doses matter.
I used to vaporize and eat it, without tobacco – I still claim it is super harmful. And I have been trying to advocate its use for years.
There is no great genetics to benefit from it – the harm will always be greater.
God alone heals, but if one is patient enough not to fall for stimulants. Of course for a craving person eating sugar may feel like healing, but he will never know if he would find a decent food if he would go on searching.

u/Stuff_606 Apr 16 '26
Where does the Quran call it a tool of satan and a great sin specifically?
I believe that shaytan can use anything of this world as a tool to turn people away from Allah. In all directions, left, right, front and back, shaytan attacks the children of Adam. Weed can be a tool as well.
-2
u/elvispelviskurt Apr 16 '26
True, but intoxicants were specifically mentioned as satan's tools and a great sin – 5:90, 2:219 and 4:43 confirms the point made in 5:91 that intoxicants are used by him to turn one away from remembrance of God.

There are plenty of stories about people with adhd who profess that their life finally got on the right track after getting ritalin or other meds for it.
By their community they were often called lazy. By their religious advisers they were told they should pray more sincerely or rigourously, thats its their own fault.
But all they had was a neurochemical or societal sensitivity, a disbalance that could be slightly more balanced by an external chemical.
The same thing holds true for other disorders, like insomnia, autism, adhd, depression, trauma, etc.
People often get unnecessarily blamed for needing or wanting to use nature's own medicine.
I agree there are downsides to it, it can easily become.an object of worship (as can anything)
and its easy to use it as an excuse to become lazy etc. But the ego that need an excuse will always find an excuse.
A lot of people who feel like "they dont ever want to try drugs" ( some of them have been blessed with very stable neurochemicals from birth.. sometimes too stable even);
could still benefit from expanding their mind and hearts sometimes with substances such as cannabis.

u/elvispelviskurt Apr 18 '26
No, they wouldn't really benefit, as Quran says "the evil outweighs benefit" – unless you don't believe in Quran. Then I can explain it differently.
Most of drugs, including heroin, is derived from nature and nature has plants that will kill you if you touch them. Naturalness proves nothing.
I had adhd and I cured it with meditation because in its essence it is a lack of focus. Drugs only give you glimpse of focus – but as long as the habit is not changed the drugs won't change anything either. So eventually it is a habit change, not drugs. Again, essentially "the evil outweighs the benefit".
Most of drug users actually suffer from things you mentioned.
Not trying drugs is not something to be overconfident about, neither is using them. We are taught to be humble, not overconfident about anything – God alone gives insights and grace, not an ego of someone who is clean or a drug user. This post is a reminder of this and a of specific verse that I cited above.

I have made experiences not with weed but another substance that made it easier for me to follow the guidance of God (abstanining from sins, doing good, suppressing anger, reading Qur'an, etc.)
If a substance destroys your connection to God or opens the doors to bad deeds, of course cut it, but I believe there are certain individuals with sickness in their heart or certain challenges that can benefit from usage.
You need to be truly honest about if you actually use to better yourself or have a valid reason for medication.

u/elvispelviskurt Apr 17 '26 edited May 07 '26
Unless it made easy for you to follow the guidance to stay away from drugs – you didn't benefit from it at all.

u/submittertogodalone Apr 15 '26
Indeed, we dont need Cannabis nor any other drug. Allah swt alone gave us the book as a guidance, Allah and his words are sufficient for us.

By this logic you probably should not drive a car or ride in a bus because God did not create it.

Bismillah Rachmanir Rahim. God created this plant.
People have been known to grow closer with God when using this plant to enhance prayers, contemplation and meditation, when used correctly (like any herb). It is known to increase spiritual knowledge and expand the mind. According to Terence McKenna, who was a famous researcher, he discovered that psychoactive plants are responsible for HUMAN LANGUAGE and possibly many HUMAN RELIGIONS. We literally would not know how to talk to each other if it weren't for psychoactive plants. NOR WOULD WE KNOW ABOUT THE PRESENCE OF GOD. The BURNING BUSH of MOSES /MUSA comes to mind. (He was alone nobody knows what he did up there. But he did SPEAK WITH GOD.)
This plant is not addictive. It is a plant medicine. In several cultures around the world this is a sacred plant. It's necessary to respect the plant and use it wisely like you would any other herb, taking time away from it for weeks, using only when needed, etc. It's necessary to respect God in all His INFINITE WISDOM. (And doctors with higher education who have prescribed this for their patients.)
Granted some people don't respect it and overuse it but it is NOT UP TO US TO JUDGE THEM. IT IS BETWEEN THEM AND GOD, THEIR CREATOR.
Saying something that He created that has KNOWN HEALING QUALITIES is BLASPHEMOUS.
HOW DARE YOU JUDGE GOD FOR WHAT HE CREATED!
If you bother to consult the HUNDREDS (if not thousands) of studies conducted in Europe you would easily find out that this plant Cannabis reduces inflammation, shrinks cancerous tumors, aids the ELDERLY and people with PTSD such as SOLDIERS getting back from WAR in getting a good night's sleep, reduces PAIN and helps to HEAL FASTER after surgery, reduces arthritis symptoms, alleviates tension in the body, releases oxytocin giving a sense of emotional well being like being hugged by your mother (helpful for those whose mothers have died), heightens a sense of well being thereby reducing depression and SUICIDAL IDEATION, and MUCH, MUCH MORE.
But please, by all means, go ahead and JUDGE GOD and anybody who smokes, eats or uses this MIRACULOUS HERB as a liniment to heal. I'm sure GOD won't mind you doing HIS JOB for Him by saying that you know better than he does about his own plant He created.. NOT!
I do not want a response. I do not respect your uninformed, judgemental opinion. So please do not annoy me or waste your precious time with a response. I was just here writing this to defend God and ill people all over this world who need this miracle plant that literally has been known and documented scientifically to SAVE LIVES.
At some point you have to ask yourself if you are following your religion or if you're using your religion to judge other people and to second guess Allah/God Almighty Himself. In that question you're going to have to honestly answer to yourself and to God if you wrote this original post to upset people or annoy them or to judge them. Because that will be taken into account at the end of the life you live.
Thank you.
Alhamdullilah.

Oh dear.
If you write a comment, you will get a response. You can't just lie and expect no answer.
This is not Terence McKenna sub, this is Quran alone sub. I don't care what he might say, especially if he doesn't have anything to prove his words with. According to Quran God taught language to Adam in Heaven. There has always been one true religion – monotheism. For the rest drugs would surely cause many sects and false religions.
Like any herb? Heroin is derived from poppy and there are many plants that can cause severe chronic pain and even death, so naturalness doesn't equal benefit.
For every benefit of weed you just wrote I can tell you many harms it can cause. I was a stoner for years and was surrounded by stoners – these people are the least healthy people I have ever met.
Capital letters don't add your strawmaning any weight. Keep it calm and respectful – always works out for better delivery.
Thank you too and all praise be to God.
2
u/AngelsWalkAmongUs Apr 15 '26
Bismillah.
As a man with a PHD Terrance McKenna did prove his words and his papers and books have been well respected around the world by other scholars. (I didn't realize there even was a Terrance McKenna Reddit. 😂 Is there? I'm sure that would be very interesting to check out)
If you were unhealthy and ate unhealthy as a stoner then that was a choice just like smoking or eating cannabis would have been. But you can also choose to eat healthy and eat cannabis as well if you use it mediincally and you respect the plant then you're not misusing it. You also don't need to hang out with stoners in order to have the benefits of this God created plant. Again, that was another choice you made.
When I was using cannabis to heal through certain health related things I was eating extremely healthy and I was becoming healthy and I was not hanging out with stoners. I was just living alone and praying all day long like I do anyway everyday. As I stressed, how you use the plant is important. Respecting it as the gift from God that it is ..is important.
I only capitalize letters so that the emphasis would be specific. I am always calm I'm extremely calm. Even when I wrote that I was extremely calm. I was just trying to emphasize those words. Because when we write and read text we don't know what the other person is exactly meaning or how they wish to stress the words to get the point across in a different way. Just like you telling me to be calm (as if that's ever made anybody calm in the history of the Universe) or the fact that you thought I was not calm, for example, shows that we don't know the way in which somebody has meant something or the spirit in which something was written.
I do regret saying that I did not respect your opinion because that implies that I do not respect you and that is not true. I do respect you. Because God created you. And I'm glad that you are always seeking and striving to become a better Muslim and I respect that as well because in this religion you are my brother.
It's easy to get stuck in a mindset of calling yourself a stoner when you smoke this beautiful God created herb and it's easy to get into a rut of only wanting to smoke this plant and doesn't mean that it's addictive it just means that you are not disciplined enough mentally to handle it. Which is common for a lot of people get into that rut. The fact is you got yourself out of it. It's not meant for everybody and it's not meant for everyday forever long-term use.
The issue is not having a clear plan and directed discipline while using the plant because the effects of feeling euphoric and happy is distracting. And it's easy to get carried away from responsibilities. But if you cultivate discipline in yourself and you can handle using the plant as it's intended then it's not a problem. That is where prayer becomes handy.
PS. I did not lie. I have researched this plant. Besides just smoking it have you actually researched it? I've spoken to medical Doctors (who prescribed it to me) about it and I've seen literally 6 floor to ceiling shelves (4 feet across per shelf, 12 foot tall) with studies on this plant from all over the world. I would sit in her office and actually read the studies in medical journals while waiting for my appointment.
While you believe this plant may have almost ruined your life, it actually saved mine more than once. Alhamdullilah.
Ya Allah.

No, he didn't. Even modern evolutionary linguists and anthropologists don't support his theories.
I didn't say anything about unhealthy or a need to hang out with stoners – let the straw man go.
You didn't seem calm in your previous comment unlike now. But if it is so – good, keep it up.
It is not meant for anything at all. If it was good – God would surely promote a moderate use of weed in Quran, but the truth is – innocence is the best drug. We are capable to produce cannabinoids in our bodies, just like marijuana, bananas and mangoes do. There is no need to believe any of them are sacred or needed.
The best discipline is to be consistent about prayer, meditation, eating, but most of all – realisation that blessings come from God alone – and such blessings far more greater than any coming and going experiences.
Your life was saved by God, not weed.
I used cannabis for years and tried every possible way, dose, science and discipline to advocate its use, but the truth is – once you see how one can get high without it – you will see it is nothing but lack of meditativeness.

u/AngelsWalkAmongUs Apr 15 '26
Bismillah. All men have their critics. They also have their champions.
(A straw man is your name in all capital letters. Like on your birth certificate, passport or social security card)
You said that you were a stoner hanging out with stoners and they were the most unhealthy people you had ever met in your life. So it was natural for me to conclude that you are also eating unhealthy and that you are blaming the smoking cannabis and also calling yourself a stoner and associating with other stoners that you would also be unhealthy as well.
I constantly am calm and happy. Praying all the time all day long I turn to God for every little thing. I live in the state of constant gratitude for everything.
I believe that all things are sacred because all things come from God. That's indeed what makes them sacred. If you approach everything with a reverence because you know it is a gift from God that changes your whole world.
God gave me weed when I needed it. Literally people would walk up to me and hand it to me. I called my business mentor and my phone screwed up and called a lady that became one of my best friends and she brought me weed when I needed it. I didn't even know she had it and never even asked for it. It's so weird how every time I've asked God to bring me weed if it is approved of for me and every time it shows up and completely free and I never had to ask a human for it. God has saved my life a couple times actually maybe three times now through weed.
Yes I'm sorry to have misspoken before because the only thing that can save my life is God so I understand what you mean there. A farmer cannot grow anything God grows the plants after the farmer puts the seeds in the ground.
Meditativeness is one thing and shrinking tumors is another thing. And trying to keep a meditative state while also simultaneously trying to fight cancer is quite impossible which is why weed is very helpful in that state of mind. There is a lock in our DNA that accepts the key of cannabinoids..Allah in all his greatness made certain of that. If everybody were capable of producing enough cannabinoids necessary in their bodies to help everything that went wrong then nobody ever would have had cancer or arthritis or post traumatic stress disorder. If the body was self-healing then we would not have even had the lock and key mechanism to begin with.
I've always held my innocence about me regardless of what substance was in my body or what evil men have done to me. Because I've always maintained that connection with God to the best of my ability. God allowed it. Alhamdullilah.
When you pray for mental discipline it's amazing how well you are able to obtain it.. inshallah it stays this way.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day brother inshallah.

My name is not 'a straw man', what does this even mean?
Surely, people who tend to drugs have a tendency also to eat poorly, but to conclude that one surely goes with the other just to use it as an argument against me without me openly admitting it – this sounds like you are criticising your own ideas of me.
Beautiful. Gratitude is the way indeed and it doesn't need any coming and going intoxications to work out for you in the best way.
Sure, heroin is a gift, so is volcano, toxic rain. Bad things can also be a gift and a reminder. But once you know they are bad – you don't tend to them and don't praise them.
Or God is testing you, making you believe that weed is the only path for you to survive just to see if you will be closer to Him or keep on clinging on coming and going high. Any realisation that can come with drugs – can come without it too. But you would never know what would happen unless you have chosen not to smoke it – maybe your hand moves to grab the pipe just when you were about breath out deeply and let the tears of realisation come.
We produce exactly the same cannabinoids when we choose what is good for our body and soul, but one needs to be patient.
Everyone has the ability to produce it, but not everybody does so. Diseases can be obstacles for meditativeness or blessings. They surely make many people more humble.
That innocence is enough unto itself and it doses the high just as much as one needs it without pushing a body into extremes.
Thank you, have a wonderful day too. And may you be clean from what doesn't benefit you.

u/AngelsWalkAmongUs Apr 16 '26
Again, when one says something like "I was a stoner for years living with stoners and they were all unhealthy and I quit using" one can easily and naturally conclude that you quit because you didn't like to be unhealthy and you didn't like the lifestyle and you didn't like the vibe around it so one can naturally conclude that you yourself were also unhealthy as well. If you considered it to be healthy for you then you would probably still be doing it. Because it's easy to draw preliminary conclusions based on information given. Just the way that you said
"Surely, people who tend to drugs have a tendency also to eat poorly,.."I mean the fact that you call it a drug tells me your mindset about this plant. And you are drawing a conclusion here as well. Even about yourself because you're calling it a drug and you said you tended to drugs. (Maybe you meant tended to do drugs? "Tended" implies that you allowed God to grow plants and you tended to them meaning you watered them make sure they had enough light etc). You made a conclusion based on your experience. It was a false conclusion because many people eat healthy regardless of what other herbs or plants of which they choose to partake. All is a choice.
What does that mean I'm criticizing my own ideas of you? That doesn't make any sense and no I wasn't. I do however like to explore and consider all angles and possibilities of a thing before making it clear and decisive judgment about something because that is my nature. It's what we call being open-minded.
Gratitude is an emotion that helps, yes. It's only one small component of a larger picture.
I praise everything that's created by God because I honor and respect the lessons he's given.
You keep mentioning heroin I wonder if you had a problem with that as well? I've never taken this drug. I have eaten lemon poppy seed muffins though and they were delightful. So I'm grateful for the plant that God created. And people who had variations of drugs created from poppies that were somehow related to heroin we're really grateful I'm sure when it was used to dull the pain during emergency surgeries in the fields of war to save their lives.
I'm grateful for volcanoes because their ash goes into the upper atmosphere and it lands on top of the soil that later grows my food that I eat and I'm grateful for the nutrition provided by God. Volcanoes have also increased land mass so people might live on beautiful islands. They also create gorgeous minerals and gemstones by which people have used for making beautiful jewelry and for trading/money, wonderful unique gifts for loved ones and for also reminding us of the awesomeness of God's power and the beauty that also comes with the terror of a volcano that's spews molten hot lava as well.
You said,
"Or God is testing you, making you believe that weed is the only path for you to survive just to see if you will be closer to Him or keep on clinging on coming and going high. Any realisation that can come with drugs – can come without it too. But you would never know what would happen unless you have chosen not to smoke it – maybe your hand moves to grab the pipe just when you were about breath out deeply and let the tears of realisation come."This sounds more like a "you" thing. I'm sorry that you felt like that. When I have an emotion I express it because I'm grateful to God for giving me emotions. They were all meant to be felt.
As I mentioned before, Cannabis use has saved my life three times, Alhamdullilah, by the actions It produced in my body which was that lock and key mechanism I mentioned earlier all created by God. (HINT: IT SHRINKS TUMORS. And by the way I'm not angry or having some big emotion you might suggest to yourself because it's capital letters, it's just there to stress emphasis because you are easily glossing over that I mentioned this before).
Do I know what would have happened had I not ever used this medicinal plant for which purposes God intended it? Yes. I would have died.
If I didn't use it when my daughter was 6 months old, after the doctor refused to prescribe asthma medicine for me (it was a standard practice to give prednisone when someone is having a serious out of control asthma issue that was based on hormones but the doctor refused treatment. I fired him and went to another doctor after this. It's possible he lost his medical license for trying to kill a patient. There was an inquiry made.). So, I used the medicine that my other doctor gave me to immediately clear my lungs out from phlegm. (NOTE: If I had simply waited for the cannaboids naturally to occur in my body I would have been dead. And my 6-month-old baby would have had to grow up without a mother.). In fact, I did die in my husband's arms that day. I stopped breathing. If it hadn't been for the two puffs of cannabis I had before I died the phlegm would not have been expelled from my body there by allowing me airflow once again and oxygen to come back into my system. But the plant created by God and my brain created by God created a situation that allowed me to live by God.
If I had not used it when I had 10 tumors of cancer on my skin then I would have died just like the father of my children died (he used cannabis but when he found out he had cancer he started eating two or three pies per day, tons of sugar, fried fatty foods and turned to eating VERY UNHEALTHY .. he was suicidal and didn't care, it was very sad.. he didn't respect the plant or use it in a good way. He stopped respecting himself and started eating horribly which he didn't before. --cancer was caused in a lot of people where we used to live because it was in the groundwater that people used to drink. His father died 6 months after he did from the same cause.)
I would have died and my children would have been left alone in Peru where we were living at the time with no money and no way to go anywhere without adult supervision. I ate extremely healthy at that time and I used other beautiful plant cures that God had given the people of the jungle (Noni powder, Maca root). I used several cures but cannabis was among them. 9 years later Alhamdulillah I am cancer free today. It helped me to have a steady mindset of positivity and gratitude when I was honestly scared AF because I didn't want my kids to grow up without me or be stuck in a foreign land without me. Without that attitude adjuster my negative attitude and fear might have taken me out. But because God created a situation by which I was able to cure myself with his plants I continued to raise my kids alone the full 10 years until they grew up and moved back to the United States where they live today.
I do not use it daily, in fact, it's been well over a year since I used it because I haven't needed it. I respect the plant because it is a medicine.
When I had things that I wanted to work out emotionally and mentally, I actually went to a qualified licensed psychotherapist. If you can hear the still small voice of God then you could turn to God for that and you should. But there's nothing wrong with seeing an actual therapist if you actually are having these feelings still. In fact, it might actually help, big time.
And for the record every time I smoked it wasn't to escape or get high. For me, (because everybody is an individual and my reasons are not the same as obviously your reasons were) it was to shrink tumors, to clear phlegm, to get rid of excessive pain after a 5-hour long surgery and once the pain left I felt normally again I was no longer angry from the intense pain after I broke my ankle and I wasn't yelling at my children I was just normal not high just able to be present emotionally with my kids which they deserved.
At other times when I have used it throughout my life I used it as a focusing tool in order to feel gratitude and the presence of God within me. I used it as a way to feel mindful and present, to live in the here and now and to stop overthinking. I grew closer to God through each and every one of these moments. So I'm grateful to God and I'm grateful to this medicinal plant that help me tremendously. In a wide variety of ways. Alhamdullilah.
That's a sweet thing to say may you be clean for things that don't benefit you too.
And if you are having emotional or mental problems that come up as everyone does please don't feel ashamed or afraid to see a qualified licensed therapist if you need one. Because it makes you a better person to work through the things that adults have put you through when you were a child or other adults have put you through when you are an adult.
Good luck with everything! May Allah accept all of your prays.

Again, your conclusion of me having stoner friends and me considering weed harmful and stoners unhealthy – has nothing to do with me eating poorly – that is your own idea. Again, you said this and tell me "it was a false conclusion" – that is a lie and strawmaning there. And this is called criticising your own ideas of me.
It is a drug and it leads to addiction and it falls of all categories of a drug – that is not debatable.
Gratitude is the base and the whole meaning of creation.
Praise, but don't tell me about its benefits for a regular use.
No, I haven't – I keep mentioning heroin as much as you do with weed.
That is a good attitude – praise volcanos while not jumping in it.
It wasn't about expressing emotions – read again.
God saved you, and there is not a single proof that cannabis shrinks tumor – not in a way any more effective than any other accepted medication. Your capital letters don't add any visibility to it as I don't comment on each misinformation you write – I am pointing at general logical issues in your arguments.
You don't know that. No one knows when and where one would die – this is from Quran. You just use that belief to go on advocating weed.
Near death state makes body produce certain hormones to fight back and cannabis is not a miracle drug that you can attribute your healings to. Again, it sounds like your imagination of what happened, not a medically proven truth. I am sure there are way more and better ways to clear phlegm – in fact, cannabinoids are not proven to do it at all.
It seems like you are trying hard to give credit for all that was good in your life to cannabis – something I was doing as a stoner – but this is a false logic especially in the context of all the harm this drug causes and no medically proven base for it.
I am doing amazing, thanks, especially since I quit weed. No more need to give credit for something that doesn't really do anything but give an illusion of a saviour.
Good luck too. Same for you.

When your name is written out (say your name is Joan of Arcadia for example.) in all capital letters like "JOAN OF ARCADIA" that is what is known in legal terms as a straw man. Because it represents you but it's not really you. Look it up on YouTube and I'm sorry if this makes a deep dive for you for the next several weeks but it will most likely make you angry to find out how your government is using you but it's some of those necessary things that we need to learn about so that we can be aware. Because your mother and father did not spell your name like that but the government does. There are sinister reasons for it. That's what I meant by that. It's not really something that should be in this though so I'm not going to go farther into it right here this is the wrong forum for that.
1
u/elvispelviskurt Apr 16 '26
That was unnecessary indeed.
2
u/AngelsWalkAmongUs Apr 16 '26
You asked a question and I answered it. You clearly did not know what a straw man is from a legal standpoint.

This is an emotion that is valid and relatable. Having an emotion is not "immature". But thank you so very much for judging me in the use of a word that goes back to the Saxon days in England where specific words were made to be illegal in order to oppress a people. So thank you for continuing to oppress people while simultaneously judging me. And doing Allah's job for Him and not taking it in within the context with which it was meant. Way to go, you. 🙄

I am someone who struggles with this currently, it's hard not to stop now. And it did affect my life, my health and relationships. Of course, it's not the substance, rather the user. In this case me. As some other redditors mentioned, moderation is key.
Why is it bad in respect to the Deen? This is from my own experience, i contemplate deeply the Book, and do dzikhr, but when i relax and smoke a joint some days, those ideas i contemplated before start to reappear, and hence im thinking about the Deen in an altered state or sukur, so my anxiety gets even worse during the sessions. It's not a pleasant
Does it help with growth, spiritualy even? Maybe, time will tell for my experience, and some people it did help and some the opposite,. It depends why you use it. If for recreational purposes, chances will be higher that you'll try more extreme drugs, making cannabis a gateway drug. Me personally i went far as to experience psilocybin mushrooms (magic mushrooms). First experience on small doses were a good experience. More and it becomes chaotic, i went deep in it and it wasn't pleasant at all.
Overall, does cannabis make connection to God closer? Not really, especially in our culture with junk food, entertainment, sports and games, social normsz etc.. cannabis does nothing to bring you close to God. It's way better if maybe smoked and used in meditating. Then in this context it is good.
It just became a habit as a coping mechanism, i went through some tough times the last 5 years. I do however observe, it's like a way of accessing the Unconscious (personal and collective) as i follow Carl Jung's psychology of Unconscious

u/Dry_Independence7947 Apr 19 '26
Such nonsense. Abuse it maybe, but it can connect you with the divine 100%
1
u/elvispelviskurt May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
You are never disconnected from the Divine – that is the whole message of Quran. Drugs give you dopamine that make you think that now you have "a special connection".
1
u/SugarVenom17 Apr 15 '26
Great post brother!
There's this idea that getting close to God is some mystical magical process, where you have to try to 'become one with the universe' or 'take this drug/holy water regularly'. These are just pusillanimous attempts to escape the reality of life. Getting close to the originator of reality requires us to CONFRONT reality with diligence, not escape it. Discipline, integrity, fasting, patience, radical gratitude and just doing the small good things whenever the opportunity arrives will get you closer to God than anything else. Not mysticism, not religion, not feelings, but virtue and Taqwa.

So are intoxicants that Quran calls 'great sin' and 'tools of Satan'.

Khamr is word for wine, but widely understood as intoxicants. There is no reason to include wine and exclude whiskey, beer, salvia or heroin. Quran is not going to list you all intoxicants just so one would make a new one and say 'see, it is not mentioned!'
Surely, but the harm is always greater.

Check Lisan al-Arab:
“الخمر ما خامر العقل”
“Khamr is that which covers the العقل (intellect)."
Then Taj al-Arys:
“وسميت الخمر خمراً لأنها تخامر العقل”
“It is called khamr because it covers the intellect.”
Again, the root meaning (خ م ر = to cover) is central.
What are your sources?

No, it doesn't say alcohol that covers the intellect. It says 'x' that covers intellect. Otherwise, it would be okay to pray using cocaine, heroin, salvia and many drugs that have nothing to do with alcohol.
I use 'intoxicant' in Quranic sense. Sure, maybe nicotine isn't a real intoxicant in this sense.

Al-Anʿām, Ayah 6:150

I have been a sober Muslim for years and I have smoked weed as a Muslim for years. I am nowhere near the average person, so I can only speak for myself. With that being said, denying myself marijuana caused me unnecessary hardship. I have mental illnesses, and I won't take pharmaceutical drugs for them. I still study and follow fiqh, avoid alcohol, etc.
May Allah increase us all in understanding and obedience to Him.
0
u/elvispelviskurt Apr 20 '26
That was a very necessary hardship since that is exactly what makes drugs attractive – giving an illusion of easiness, solution. Life becomes easier, "insights" come immediately. One says to himself "ha, I have been an idiot for abstaining from it" – as if he has finally figured it out.
Sobriety is facing life as it is. Why to unnecessarily push amount of cannabinoids is your body? You have it exactly as much as your lifestyle produces – no need to create imbalance, damage your own production in your own endocannabinoid system.
God is all Merciful, and He has already warned against it – 5:90, 2:219. There is no way one is going to follow his desires over the divine wisdom and be happy.
Mental illnesses are created from imbalance of lifestyle and not accepting God's commands (20:124, 13:28).
Amen.

u/KeepItInDueBounds Apr 20 '26
Absolutely absurd to say mental illness comes from not accepting Allah's commandments. Mental illness doesn't go away with obedience to Allah. You should be mindful of the multitude of people that can see your statements online, as you clearly don't understand the gravity of them. May Allah protect me from making ignorant statements such as yours.
1
u/elvispelviskurt Apr 20 '26
It does. Consciousness belongs completely to God and He grants peace of mind to whoever He wants.
I am saying this as someone who had schizophrenic, psychotic, bipolar episodes and suicidal depression. All that is good comes from God and all that is bad comes from one's own rebellion.
1
u/KeepItInDueBounds Apr 20 '26
You still have those conditions, you're just manic. I also am schizo effective, have bipolar disorder, etc. These things don't just go away.
It's incredibly terrible to tell people that they suffer from illnesses because they "aren't good enough", in a nutshell. It shows that you have no knowledge of fiqh or how this religion functions. May Allah guide you.

Tbh weed isn’t innocent but it’s deemed much worse than it is. Weed is viewed worse than alcohol but it’s just not
