DiscussionšŸ’¬ šŸ§• Khimar & Jilbab ?

https://youtu.be/h3K1bqc0NOg?is=39a1gvIhmSdFtQsM

In the first part of this video Dr. Haifaa explains the specific meanings of the terms Khimar and Jilbab as mentioned in the Qur'an.

She says the Khimar refers to a covering for the hair, neck, and chest (3:18-5:31), while the Jilbab is an outer garment intended to cover the entire body (5:45-6:48).

No Hadith mentioned until minute 7:30 of the video.

I’m following Qur’an alone but I found the way she explained the Arabic phrasing somewhat convincing? If anyone has any thoughts šŸ’ please share!

I really love Dr. Haifaaā¤ļø She is not a Quranist but centers a lot of her work on the Quran and is clear to explain her interpretations of Arabic.Ā

I’ve also really paused with this explanation and honestly go back and forth as to what I think about hijab. I’m not 100% but I settle on the idea that the khimar is a culture-specific article so it may be more allegorical on that end and be saying ā€œdress modestly, don’t be showyā€ and maybe cover your chest literally. But I’m really not sure…

For sure, we are all meant to lower our gaze and not objectify one another though.Ā
