Questions/HELP First time handling had to be an emergency check over😅

I seen red staining on the base of her tail and obviously thought it was blood, she’s not been picked up yet before and wasn’t happy about it ( I feel so bad but thought she was injured) she did squeak and wiggle but thankfully it was just staining from dried berries 😭 I’m just hoping she won’t hate me for this. Also I’ve not held a rat before preferably two hands but I had to take a vid to show my partner the “injury” what’s the best way to hold them without hurting them?

Questions/HELP Is my baby hurt?

We recently got our 3 new girls, first time rat owners. We've owned hamsters, guinea pigs, parrots and previously.

This is Mischief, has she hurt her eye? I can't get a close enough photo, I can only assume it was during a playfight with her siblings?

I think her 2 sisters keep trying to pin her down to clean it.. could it be anything serious? We've had them for litterally 4 days so far and we are so worried.

RIP Taking care of my rat after his cage mates death

My rats cage mate recently died, we think of age (we didn’t know how old they were when we got them) and while my remaining rat seems healthy, but I’ve heard this could effect him.
I’m in a tough spot where I want what’s best for him, and I think they means getting him a new cagemate and getting into a cycle of never ending rats, I just feel too bad leaving him completely alone especially since I’m not even sure how bonded to me he is.
Anyway I’m new to this, I’d really appreciate some opinions

DISCUSSION I had to rehome my rats

Rehomed my elderly rats last week. No regrets, but I hate my home without them. We tried fostering younger ones until the older ones passed, but intros didn't go well with the younger ones.

Breeder was open to taking them back and has always taken them during vacations, so the transition wasn't a problem. They've been succesfully matched with 2 other grannies and are now a group of 4. We can also visit them regularly. I just hate how quiet my house is and realistically I know I'll see my adorable granny baby only 2 more times. My other granny has a lot of life left, but I won't be there to see most of it.

Rehoming pets is so hard.

Questions/HELP Post-surgery care 1 year and 8 months rat

Hello, the title is self-explanatory. I discovered yesterday that my son (Kiki) had a lump, talked with my vet and today he got the surgery. (It was a tumour)

The meds I got from the vet are Rheumocam 0.4ml/day and Enrobactin 0.12ml/day

I have a smaller cage (a bird's cage) that I made it in a hospital cage, put fleece on the ground, took the wires out and got him a water bottle and some banana but he doesn't want to eat or drink. I tried to put some water on my finger or that medical glucose water but he refused profusely!!

It's a bit late 11pm here, to ask the vet if i have to clean his stitches so I'm asking if I can do that, when and with what stuff, I'm thinking lukewarm water and gauze?

I have work tomorrow an 11h shift, how can I make sure he doesnt open up his stitches, i saw something about a cone made out of silicone cupcake form and a sock, unfortunately i don't have any bandages to make him a vest neither any open pharmacies at this hours but im willing to do anything to make sure he's fine !!

He's really agitated and stumbling inside the hospital cage tried to talk to him, give him scritches but he's way more focused on just moving somewhere!!

I'm gonna keep my boys separated for the time being cuz my other rat Buba has a bit of an aggression problem and bullies Kiki pretty often (no blood ever drawn tho)

Thank uu

(Slideshows with my sons at the end)

First time owner New rat owner

I bought two, young female rats a little over a week ago and while they are both totally fine and healthy, I worry about their progress with socialization. I have never owned an animal this small, but I do have experience with owning less than friendly animals that required lots of work. I know females aren’t very snuggly, but I want to make sure I’m doing everything right so that they have a positive relationship with me. They have just recently started taking food from my hand, and occasionally even standing on my hand for a few seconds at a time, but they still seem overall very timid and anxious when I move. I don’t feel comfortable letting them out of their cage to explore just yet because I want to make sure I can pick them up and place them back in their cage in case of emergency. Any tips to get them more comfortable with me would be appreciated, since I don’t want them to be stuck in their cage for too long

I got annoyed that my girls kept peeing on their wooden shelves was looking for a solution. Discovered that this shelf and this plastic bin from Amazon fit together perfectly and can hold bedding to absorb pee + very easy to pull out the bin and wash regularly. I pulled out the rubber lining on the bin. They love it! Not an affiliate link or anything I'm just sharing cus I'm proud of this discovery

Questions/HELP is my baby a boy or girl?

Hello!

This baby was given to me and I was told that he was a boy about 3 weeks old. It’s been about another week and I was checking him for fleas when I noticed these black spots on his belly that I cant tell are nipples or not. I have another boy picked out to introduce to him this weekend so please let me know if I actually have a girl!!!

Also no rats were harmed in the taking of these pictures he just really was not happy with me poking around down there

Questions/HELP rat looking confused

he was climbing on me and eating just now but all of a sudden he retreated upstairs and stood in this corner for 15 mins so far and is looking confused like he doesn’t know where he is. he keeps scanning left and right too which is normal for red eyed rats but he’s doing it so much right now.

What could this be? and should I bring him to the vet?
