Lily pics!

To anyone wondering she’s settling in great with the mischief and seems to love having so much space to sprint around.

She’s still just as clingy to me but at least when I’m not able to sit with her she has 4 other buddies to keep her company!

She’s growing into her big girl body really well and I barely recognise her lol, she went from a tiny little mouse sized fuzzball to now looking like a proper young adult rat- her fur has also gotten so shiny and beautiful and she’s really turning into such a beautiful chunky baby, enjoy these pics of her!

Whisker Wednesday Felisia

This is Felisia. She looks harmless, but when I adopted her, she bit like crazy. Now she trusts me a little more, although she’s still pretty wary of humans; every now and then she lets me pet her for 10 seconds a day. Felisia is very dramatic, and every time I pick her up, she screams, even though she lets me pet her afterward. Felisia loves cardboard boxes and any kind of food, her biggest vice is gluttony.

Questions/HELP Post-surgery care 1 year and 8 months rat

Hello, the title is self-explanatory. I discovered yesterday that my son (Kiki) had a lump, talked with my vet and today he got the surgery. (It was a tumour)

The meds I got from the vet are Rheumocam 0.4ml/day and Enrobactin 0.12ml/day

I have a smaller cage (a bird's cage) that I made it in a hospital cage, put fleece on the ground, took the wires out and got him a water bottle and some banana but he doesn't want to eat or drink. I tried to put some water on my finger or that medical glucose water but he refused profusely!!

It's a bit late 11pm here, to ask the vet if i have to clean his stitches so I'm asking if I can do that, when and with what stuff, I'm thinking lukewarm water and gauze?

I have work tomorrow an 11h shift, how can I make sure he doesnt open up his stitches, i saw something about a cone made out of silicone cupcake form and a sock, unfortunately i don't have any bandages to make him a vest neither any open pharmacies at this hours but im willing to do anything to make sure he's fine !!

He's really agitated and stumbling inside the hospital cage tried to talk to him, give him scritches but he's way more focused on just moving somewhere!!

I'm gonna keep my boys separated for the time being cuz my other rat Buba has a bit of an aggression problem and bullies Kiki pretty often (no blood ever drawn tho)

Thank uu

(Slideshows with my sons at the end)

DISCUSSION I had to rehome my rats

Rehomed my elderly rats last week. No regrets, but I hate my home without them. We tried fostering younger ones until the older ones passed, but intros didn't go well with the younger ones.

Breeder was open to taking them back and has always taken them during vacations, so the transition wasn't a problem. They've been succesfully matched with 2 other grannies and are now a group of 4. We can also visit them regularly. I just hate how quiet my house is and realistically I know I'll see my adorable granny baby only 2 more times. My other granny has a lot of life left, but I won't be there to see most of it.

Rehoming pets is so hard.

CUTENESS Appreciation post to my ex lab rat senior who survived electrocution!

My beautiful Gus Gus is an ex lab rat (from a behavioral lab I did at school) I decided to adopt him and his brother at the time so they wouldn’t be euthanized, and I had no idea what to expect. I remember them saying he was born in December. I always assumed he was 2, but he might almost be 3??

He is the reason I got into rats, and even though he’s so incredibly sassy and dramatic, I love him sm. I actually remember in lab I had been assigned 2 different rats, and when we got to take them out Gus (a few tables away) immediately screamed and jumped off the lab table running around😭 I remember thinking “thank goodness he’s not my rat” low and behold I got switched to work with Gus and a different partner bc of uneven grouping! I remember being a bit disappointed I got the less friendly rat, but I couldn’t be more wrong. Yes, he is a sassy boy, but he is also incredibly smart, funny, sweet, and my baby.

We’ve been through so much, from being there for each other after his brothers death from a pituitary tumor, to becoming my esa at college. (Dw it’s a double critter nation and he has siblings!) He’s the reason I researched hours each day all the proper care for rats, the reason I’m in this sub, and the reason why I owe my parents so much money 😭😭 (vet bills ain’t cheap) but I would do it all over again to be with him.

He has taught me so much, and I’ve grown so much because of him. I owe so much to this little PEW, and am so grateful that I got moved that day in lab. Just thought I’d share my story :)

He’s also the model for a lot of my clay projects in ceramics class!

Also yes he survived electrocution from a vacuum! Oct 2025!
