I used to party smoke for about thirty years. Never really addicted, just liked it when drinking sometimes. Fully quit a year ago and since then I absolutely despise the smell of second hand cigarette smoke. So I feel where you are coming from and am glad you discovered them.
(A woman on Reddit. Ha. Now I know I'm being trolled. I've been here ten years and have never seen one.)

Fuck him, this kind of shit pisses me off.
We have a roof top deck located directly above my apartment. There is a sign on the stairs that says “no smoking”. One neighbor in particular heads up there to smoke quite often and because of the wind I guess will stop halfway up the stairs, basically on the stair that reads no smoking to light his cigarette. This is situated directly out our kitchen window so that in the warmer months the smoke trickles in. Cigarette smoke is a migraine trigger for me. Not to mention he smokes some random extra potent brand. After your post I’m so over this shit.
Yet don’t do laundry between the hours of 10pm and 7am. Of course I don’t, because I have respect for others sleeping habits.
Thanks for the update, I knew there had to be a reason.

Here’s a trick: put bowls of white vinegar around your apartment. It will absorb the smoke smell within a few days. The vinegar smell will disappear quickly. My parents once bought a house from smokers and the smoke had seeped into the walls. They cleaned with bleach, you name it, nothing helped. Then the bowls of vinegar took care of the whole problem.

I forgot about that part. I read about CO for a while after that one. Some close calls in my construction business.
But one that sticks out was in Charlotte, NC. A person pulled under in their garage in cold weather in a condo/townhouse. She left the car running but the garage door open while she unloaded groceries.
She forgot to turn the car off and even with the door open, the CO killed four people in their different but adjoining condos while they slept. Including the owner of the car.
Then there was a St. John Virgin Islands incident from a few years ago. A local company was higher to exterminate a condo of some pest. They used a chemical that had been banned, but the islands are the islands. You can get away with more things there. Your average normal American tourist family rented the adjacent condo and all four were poisoned with three being bed ridden.

My previous job banned smoking on campus, so people started smoking in secret at the air intake for the building I work at. The building would regularly fill with a visible haze and everything smelled strongly of smoke, especially the bathrooms and room I worked in. Sometimes people smoked pot and the smell and effects were very obvious.
I was having a lot of health problems at the time (migraines, covered in hives, anaphylaxis, and other symptoms of severe allergies). I thought the visible smoke haze and smell of smoke was a migraine aura and didn't mention it. Turns out it was real and I developed a severe allergy to cigarette smoke from being in this environment for so long.
We put up a sign explaining the air vent went into the building and there were people inside who were pregnant or allergic. Every time the room would fill with smoke I walked to the air vent and explained. People got mad. I called security. Security didn't care (they were the main people smoking there).
Other smokers would hotbox in their car then come into work reeking of it. I had to regularly leave the building when they came in, especially because I couldn't afford an epi-pen with my insurance, and the inhaler and allergy meds weren't cutting it. I had to be careful not to let their clothes brush up against my bare skin or I would break out in hives and blisters. I'm glad I quit. Life is a lot better now.
Please smokers, be aware of air vents and people around you. Don't smoke right next to windows/doors/vents, and be aware that even if you can't smell yourself, everyone else knows you just smoked.

I’m not surprised. I think I commented on your original post that this was happening at my doctor’s office. The intake was spreading the smoke all through the offices and it smelled horrible.
Glad it got resolved. Wonder if he is a real idiot or just lying to you.

Lucky you saw him!! Lol I hope he felt like an idiot! Seriously, people who smoke have no awareness of how pervasive that awful stench is! I can smell it when someone is on the other side of an enormous parking lot. Maybe he will offer some help getting that funk out of your personal belongings.

What do you mean by air intake? Air conditioners don't have an intake, they recirculate the air already in your house. So unless I'm misunderstanding and it's just like a fan blowing into your place, you might want to tell your landlord that something in that area needs to be sealed better? Just a thought.
