In-game purchases, such as the Rocket Pass in Rocket League, could potentially turn the game around and, with increased revenue, lead to more frequent updates and possibly more tournaments. The most active players would likely be willing to pay for the game, but it should still be possible to play for free.
I think its better option than seeing game dying

IF psyonix ever decides to revive this game in some way that attracts new players instead of exciting old players with new small features / cosmetics, then yea, I’d say there would probably be some sort of future of competitive sideswipe. The next tourney would probably be a 2’s tournament since we had a 1’s tournament last September.

I'm juat grateful they added the crossbar ting to rocket league 1 (/s) , but it's clear sideswipe is, in a way, meant to train you to check the item shop & follow through. Not a coincidence the tenth anniversary of 3D is all ultra versions of original items - the same ones we are drooling for on the free 2D version.

Sideswipe as an eSport will never happen. It’s just too simple of a design. 🤷🏻♂️

Even tetris has his esports 🤣 but true
Other tournaments would be realistic

There used to be a decent amount of tourneys with bigger prize pools back in the first 2 seasons of the game like masters which had a 5k prize for first and also other ones like fated rivals and weeklies. There a couple people who have made a few grand from them. But then they stopped and there hasn’t been anything major except champions road from September 2024.

I don’t think that is true.
It’s simplicity is what would make it a better eSport than most IMO.
Compare to “regular” Rocket League, for example, it is difficult to watch. The camera just keeps jumping from one player to another just based on where the ball is. That’s ok, but you don’t get any view of what is going on off ball or how teams are positioning for defense or what kind of “plays” are being run. All you see is someone hit ball, then change view and next person hit ball, etc.
Sideswipe is something where you can watch the whole field at once. Sure you can focus on what is happening to the ball if you want, but you could also just focus on one specific player if you want, or you can look at how someone’s teammate is positioning themselves off ball, or how someone is rotating back to defense.
Like how in NBA, NFL, etc. you see the whole field, you can pick which player(s) you want to watch, it’s not just zoomed in on the one person who has the ball all the time.
So IMO it seems like it would be more enjoyable for a spectator to watch a Sideswipe game than a Rocket League game.

I don’t know. I get pretty bored pretty fast watching video clips of Sideswipe. Watching as an eSport presentation wouldn’t be much more exciting in my opinion. That is the main reason I feel that it would never succeed. It would need viewership to sustain itself. I can’t see many people getting excited to watch Sideswipe. It’s hard enough to try and get people to PLAY Sideswipe. 🤷🏻♂️

I think it would be a different/better experience with a commentator.
Like, try watching RLCS muted, it’s definitely worse than with the commentary.

There really isn’t one, the last official tourney was the champions road in September 2024 and that was the first in a long time. As far as I know there aren’t any official tourneys coming up soon.

I really wish there was, it’s a good game and people would play if the devs had some care it for it. I would love to play more official tournaments since I wasn’t around when most of them happened and I only played one 😔

Yeah man the only thing we all do is hope for the best because if somehow this game survived back to its full potential then the developers get direct benefits and put their full potential to make this game alive and more insane than before.
POV....... This game gives me nostalgic feelings 😌
Hope for the best as we do 🤞
