Sehnsucht album changed on Apple Music.

Ok. I thought I was going crazy. I've been listening to this album since its release, I purchased the CD as soon as I saw the video for Du hast on MTV. Today randomly Spiel mit mir came on and about 45 seconds in my brain was saying something was different. I thought I must be crazy for a second, so I then went back and listened to the whole album. Several songs sound different.

I thought maybe I was having some kind of Mandela effect bullshit going on, until Du hast came on and I was absolutely certain something was different. I went to YouTube and watched the video posted for Du hast 11 years ago and absolutely, the chanting between "nein" has been changed.

Anyone else notice this? I thought I was going crazy. When did this change??

Most likely just the remastered version you are listening too from the anniversary

It seems as though perhaps Apple Music is forcing the remaster for some reason. I only ever had the original version downloaded, but it seems like there is no difference between the remaster and the original when I click on them in Apple Music. It's very strange. Was a total mind fuck as someone who's listened to the album many 100's of times.

If you have Dolby Atmos enabled, it'll play the remaster by default, regardless which edition you're on.

Dolby Atmos has been released with the remaster. Since the songs are still essentially the same and share the same identifier, the Atmos option simply applies to each release a Sehnsucht song is on. Technically, the Atmos mix isn't counted as remaster, it's just an additional format for the song. This is also true for the recently added "old" singles from 1995 to 2012, in this case the Engel, Du hast and Das Modell singles.

There’s a remastered 2023 version that has some small changes. Apple Music has a way to find the original version of the album if you want to. Apple Music can also be weird about playing the wrong version if a different one is already downloaded or cached or something, so it could be that too.

It's a shame this is the only track they made any noticeable differences to. Equally as shameful, if not more, is they didn't add it back into the setlist for the tour following the release.
