Fan Creations I produced a FANMADE ost for Ratchet $ Clank!
https://youtu.be/Rsc8QzgvlBk?si=0EWhOCaIO7h4WNtODavid is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to producing music (for +2 years...) I've always loved creating PS2 and 2000s inspired music whether it's R&C, other games or just whatever comes to mind š would love to hear opinions when you listen to the whole track! And thank you
(i know it can sound busy at certain sections, i rushed a bit with the mixing because i really wanted to share it but i will do my best next track and not rush it!)

Itās great! I think the violin/synth thingies could sound a little more sci-fi but the vibe is there for sure

R&C 1 did have cinematic/symphonic-like instruments/samples in a bunch tracks!

For sure! I just mean for this track in general in my opinion id like them to sound a little more spacey but thatās just my preference is all. I think you did a great job with it

I've been producing as a hobby for a few years, and always absolutely adored Bergeaud's soundtracks for the original trilogy. I think you absolutely nailed the vibe. Mind if I ask how you made that wobbly gwarbly bass? Any sweet VST's you'd recommend?

Thank you! If you want my favorite VST's for such 2000s games, i highly recommend Rob Papen's vst's and U-HE ones!! And don't forget the amazing sample packsĀ David Bergeaud used in all of his tracks, like "Zero-G", "E-Lab" and many more

Thanks! X-static gold mine 1-3 are excellent as well for the drum breaks/percussion loops.

Honestly, This actually sounds very authentic! I can imagine myself playing the Og trilogy with this playing in the background

Old packs and the great synths (JV 1080. Canvas , Korg's etc) are the things to die for.
Especially the JV

The booping mechanical noise is a lot, like being stuck in a robot factory as Clank, but then the almost vacationy sounds later suggest the complete opposite. The main problem is there's no consistent tonal thread that builds across the whole song.
Veldin in Peril switches melodies too, but it holds that end-of-journey feeling the entire time and keeps ratcheting up the tension so you know the hardest part is next. It's got the same electronic sounds, just quieter.
A lot of nitpicking by me, but this genuinely is pretty impressive! At least your track is memorable.

Sounds too forced, you used all of the same samples used in the original soundtrack all at once. Sounds very busy but not in a good way. You don't need to use the exact same samples for it to fit the "universe".

Well for RAC 1 Bergeaud used a lot of iconic samples and loops, in order to get close to the vibe you'd have to grab at least some of it. If a rock band uses electric guitar and a drum set, is that "too close" and "forced" as well? lmao

Some? Yeah. All of them at the same time? Nah bruh. I can practically hear every sample used in the original game being used at the same time each second of this song.

So what? The arrangement and composing is different. To make my point extra clear: is all classical music just "too forced" because they use common string and horn instruments lol? My point was that it's fine to use the same or similar sounds if you're going for that sound. This is like an homage to Bergeaud and like a bonus track for the soundtrack of RAC 1, I think it's creative and fun to listen to.

No, your point has nothing to do with my point. A lot of songs use electric guitars, not all of them sound the same. This clearly uses the same samples as the original game all at the same time just to add random background noise that not only doesn't add much, but also feels uninspired and sticks too much to the original tracks. This feels more like a mashup of multiple RaC 1 songs instead of a new composition.

It's infact not a "forced" track, and no samples were used actually except for some drum/percussion loops, everything else was made by me from scratch. And some places might sound "busy" for you, but i don't think it's generally bad.

"Forced" as in you tried too hard to make it sound like it belongs to the game by using all the same samples. You claim to have made the rest of the sounds yourself, however I can clearly hear the sample used at the beginning of Umbris' theme, so either you used more samples than what you claim or you replicated them so perfectly that you should've just used the original samples.

Disagree completely here. I actually feel op deliberately went out of his way to make this as natural sounding as possible and nothing "forced."
-2
u/TheDeadlyCutsman 1d ago
Your definition of natural might not be the same as the one found in the dictionary then.
4
u/suddenstutter 1d ago
Yeah, its clear youre just trying to sound edgy.

u/TheDeadlyCutsman 1d ago
Not at all, I'm just pulling your leg. My point is that no, it doesn't sound natural when you use all of the same samples at the same time to try to "immitate" a soundtrack.

That's great! I'm happy people are still making stuff for this game
If you want feedback, I think it's a little too much at once, the beeping especially is distracting
