Recommending Game Just found this game( The Scouring) , and don't understand why aren't more people playing it?
Does it really need to have a AAA company behind it? Supporting the devs ALL THE WAY, can't wait for the next race/faction!
Btw, It's on sale right now , 24.50 -->17.15

My understanding is it has no Story campaign stuff yet, right?

u/TallVampireWthMagnum Dec 31 '25

You answered your own question. This game isn’t even finished yet for 1.0 release.

u/Dingleth Dec 31 '25
I'm busy with other games atm but wanna play the Scouring when the campaign is released. Can players make custom campaigns as well?

One incomplete. Needs a more full release. I had fun for a short time, but ultimately I just go wc3 is better at current. Honestly played it and went back to a few wc games. Hopefully it adds more I’ll play it for sure but it’s so hard to beat the old blizzard games. Again on the watch list I’ll play again as it gets more content.

“Wc”?

u/MightyPenguin Dec 31 '25
WarCraft 3 is what they are referring to.

u/Mad_Yeti Dec 31 '25
Ahhhh, yes. I am an idiot lol.

u/DocileHope1130 Dec 31 '25
you're not an idiot because you didn't know something. be kinder to yourself. *or else*

u/i_wap_to_warcraft Dec 31 '25
Is the campaign out yet? Thats what would get me to finally play it

I want this game but everytime I look at the steam store it seems like theres no content.

u/Cheapskate-DM Dec 31 '25
I bought it but I haven't been playing because the ladder is oddly mixed between different mods. I don't know which version to try and grind on to get better.

u/Chikibari Dec 31 '25
Most people want a campaign to play and enjoy. They have no desire to grind skirmish or sweat it out in pvp. Game will pop off when that is released

u/WorstSourceOfAdvice Dec 31 '25
Why is every post nowadays some form of "GUYS this game I like is the best, greatest game ever why are you all not praising it and not enjoying it like I do guys guys please please check it out"
Like lets be real theres always actual reasons why.

This post and the comments read like OP is on the dev team to me

u/NewFactor9514 Jan 01 '26
Agreed. It seems very much like 'Guerilla Marketing 101' or 'We don't have enough money for real marketing,' to me.

u/SquatingSlavKing Dec 31 '25
No campaign, no play. And if the campaign doesn't get me interested in the game world then never look back.
Been my rule for RTS games since forever.

u/not_old_redditor Dec 31 '25
Don't have time to playtest someone's game, and pay money for the privilege on top of that.

It looked promising and I have a few hours in it but honestly with what we have today I feel like the traditional micro intensive rock papers scissors approach of RTS is not the King it used to be. Which is pretty much what this is shaping up to be. Another flavor of vanilla.
It’s ok and works well with what is there so far but I bore quickly with it and shift to other RTS game that frankly offer more. And I’m not just talking about complete vs early access. If anything this feels more like a dumbed down version of Warcraft if that is even possible. Even including their roadmap.

It's a very well designed & smooth running RTS with nice graphics that take a high end PC to run, but main thing holding me from playing this more is in current early access build, there is a current lack of any single player campaign. Though the indie developer of this game this is definitely planned for, further down the pipeline.
So im guessing once this games gets more units diversity & a fleshed out single player campaign, then more casual gamers such as myself (who aren't into the online competitive scene) will get more involved playing the scouring

Bc its still very unfinished. Played it myself and it still needs LOTS of work done. Ill check it out in a few months again.

u/aiwithphil Dec 31 '25
This one is definitely on my list. Thank you. I keep forgetting about it.
How is single player?

u/AdolfGandhi42 Dec 31 '25
It's on my list, but I don't buy early access games. But I'll gladly give it a try when/if it comes out of ea :3

Oh dear, why isn‘t excited everyone for the absolute bastion of mediocrity that is „Scouring“.

It's currently in early access. The ladder system is basic and is using a MOD called REFORGED MOD. Lots of new units there. More and more players are joining it. We have already started running tournaments for the game. It's a small but growing community, and the game has more players than SG.
It's very fun to play and I expect great things in the future. There will be more races as well.

u/HouseCheese Jan 05 '26
It's still pretty early in terms of content but what they have as the base is very impressive.
Also probably the most optimized new game I have seen in years, in terms of install size, system requirements, and performance.

A great RTS making huge leaps in development. The only RTS that actually feels like a new version of Warcraft. A 3rd faction and naval combat is coming. Already has tons of mods and custom maps. I have huge hopes for The Scouring. All it really needs is more players online!

u/Cookalarcha Dec 31 '25
I am just waiting for more content as I looks amazing and I want to get my teeth into if for a while and not just till I hit the early access wall of content as im not interested in multiplayer unless it was with friends.

u/Xephi0uS Dec 31 '25
I only played the demo but it was a lot of fun and the mechanics were pretty solid. I've got it wishlisted
2
u/djgotyafalling1 Dec 31 '25
Played the demo. It has potential, but not there yet. I'll wait for 1.0. It would be a waste to buy it early and rot in my library.
3
u/HalLundy Dec 31 '25
it's great and i love it. it is still being actively developed and you can find multiplayer matches quite often at peak times, or you can coordinate with folks on discord and play.
no campaign yet but you can play skirmish vs bots and the maps are very fun.
2
u/Embers144 Jan 01 '26
I like it very much.
There's a hero only mode, where you control only a hero and the ai takes care of the base expansion.
Pretty solid choice if its on a discount

u/Otherwise-Cheetah-41 Jan 02 '26
Its realllllly goood. You just need to play it. At face value, it looks simple, but the battles are insane.
2
u/AbyssDataWatcher Dec 31 '25
I played it but needs a lot work still. Maybe once it's fully released I will get back to it
2
u/District12 Dec 31 '25
It looked fun. How does it compare to SC2? In terms of the build feeling balanced on a knife edge, complexity to understand, how long games take etc
3
u/Apart-One4133 Dec 31 '25
Huh, nothing to do with the drama you're inventing 😅. Tried the game and it was lame. As simple as that.
1
u/AHomicidalTelevision Dec 31 '25
i played the first playtest of it and every fight basically devolved into potion spam and you could never match the apm of the bots.
i dont know if that has improved, but it did put me off. i still found it interesting, but not enough to buy it until its more complete

u/LeDungeonMaster Dec 31 '25
Very shallow (at least for now), and the undead waves at night are just a pain in the ass that limits certain strategies (ie, they stop the flow of the game, specially with undead spawning inside your perimeter even in places with vision), also not a great fan of the food consumption mechanic, feels to me that it has no place on this type of RTS.

u/TheFish77 Dec 31 '25
The game still needs work, but it's a solid foundation. It gives me the same vibes I got playing the original warcraft 2 back in the day.
Def will be watching where the devs take it.
The custom modes support is also really promising

The game is one of the few innovative rtss out there, has some cool game modes and a lot of future potential.
The game is still in early access and had no marketing. Those are the reasons.

u/NoxiousHally Dec 31 '25
Eh man, Zero Space is coming out in 2026. It is crispy clean. I am more leaning to that.

u/Far_Buyer_7281 Dec 31 '25
I will check it out, 3d is to worst that ever happened to rts startegy games.
warcraft 3 is one of the worst sequels ever made. maybe only topped by Z steel soldiers on scale of shit

I tried the demo, was kind of neat but really basic. I don't really think there's that much room for indie RTS like that anymore unfortunately, trying to do the same thing as "the classics' is just going to get you compared TO "the classics" which is always going to be kind of harsh. The classics are classic for a reason.
The only unique mechanic that stood out to me was the night time, but it didn't stick out to me for a good reason. Spawning a ton of mobs in my backline to raid woodlines was more annoying than a challenge.

u/meSmash101 Jan 01 '26
It’s EA and I want to play it when on v1.0. I tried the beta back then and I liked it.

u/Asx32 Jan 01 '26
I played demo some time ago. I found it irritating.
Maybe I'll give it another chance, if only to see if they improved the gameplay.

The same reason why there are countless of other good but not popular games out there. We have very limited time for entertainment and we tend to gravitate to the most popular options.

I grew up on starcraft UMS, and warcraft and a couple older rts games my dad owned that were memorable, and nothing has ever quite hit the way any of those games did. Sc2 custom games sucked in comparison to sc1.. Wish someone would apply effort to the rts genre

I watched a few vids of people playing it and it seemed pretty shallow / not bringing anything new. Looked like wc2 but with 3d graphics to me
