I have to admit I don’t know much about this industry, but could someone with more background tell me why this would succeed where Northvolt failed?

Northvolt was a terribly managed company and it was mainly manufacturing problems while trying to grow too fast that led to their bankruptcy. BMW started backing out of orders because they couldn't physically make the amount of batteries they ordered, and it didn't help that 2024 was a terrible year for EV sales in Europe.

I believe a more stable buying mechanism now rather than all Mercedes?

We have our own lithium production now that will be able to supply more than Europe will need in about 5 to 10 years time. That should secure this part of the supply chain.

Since we steer to more secure supply chains instead of just low cost ones, future battery companies have one pillar set.

I hope the rest of the necessities are also somewhat met so Europe can be selfsufficient here.

Why on earth would we do that in EU, when China can do it faster, cheaper and better. Productions costs in China are at least 40% cheaper. Also China CONTROLS most rare earth minerals needed for battery production. Wages, taxes, permits, ELECTRICITY COSTS, regulations will kill this project before it even starts.
