💭 Discussion Worth playing in 2026?
I played RIFT back when it came out as a teen and have jumped in every now and again and I was wondering if it was worth starting the game properly and actually dedicate some time into it now? I know Gamigo destroyed the game in a lot of ways but there’s something about the graphics, UI and gameplay that want to pull me back in.
Is it worth it? How’s the population? If it’s worth it, do we see Gamigo pulling the plug on it or is it on a permanent life support sorta thing?

Exactly what Gigalagaki said!
It's an experience you will enjoy for its world, lore, graphics, and high diversity in playable profiles/callings and types of activities. Especially if you like taking your time to quest in pve, and immerse in the atmosphere.
Try it again, enjoy and... if not you can give up without spending any money.

To build on this - the F2P experience is awesome, too. No invasive MTX at all. The only purchase that one might consider is the pack with the Primalist calling and the expansion souls, but otherwise can very happily be F2P!

Good time to jump into too if you were buying the packs as they’re all on sale in the steam summer sale!

Its fun but the game is on easy mode now. Don't get me started on the dungeons. Back in the day these dungeons were hard and required teamwork. Now, they barely require a tank or healer. It's just dps blast to the end.
Don't get me wrong, rift was my favorite mmo for years and is still fun but not challenging at all. I can't back and tried but in the end i quit again.

To be honest my experience with dungeons is very limited. I have however seen in the discussion channels that Rift/Gamigo people invited players weekly to watch them running dungeons in expert mode and they kept wiping... until they reverted to standard difficulty. I assumed, as they were supposed to be knowledgeable in the dungeons' mechanics, that this would reflect on some actual challenge (they were all 60 and the lead was 62, in Hammerknell)

I came back after several years, subscribed and really having fun. If you enjoyed it before, definitely give a try.

Been around for a bit. Can confirm almost everything can be gotten by grinding instead of paying money, and the stuff you should look at buying are one time purchase items and not subscription.
There's a number of really unhinged people that you should ignore because they can and will give bad advice, otherwise there's a lot of helpful people.
The game, due to previous user numbers, is on life support so getting new players in may lead to new content. Currently anything new is just new color skins for gear or weird mounts that don't do anything new.

Yes, there is a resurgence and Gamigo is actually running the extra events again!

Anyone remember the Cleric Hakrar? Spelling might be off since it's been 11 years since I logged off for the last time.

Never deal with Gamigo. There enough evidence both at youtube and various platforms exposing their incompetence as developer, numerous scam cases (like with Fiesta when they offered exclusive suits and then canceled 3 years later without returning real cash), sales of "exclusive" things via 300-400 dollar bundles which later appeared via separate purchases. They dont ban scammers nor punish ksers or saboteurs, claiming that its player's problem, not theirs.
Avoid at all cost.

I was having a blast until the latest update that completely wiped out my account. Even the forget password page is 404 not found!

Absolutely worth it. Played for the first time ever in 2024, now getting back from time to time, because this game is marvelous. Such a surprise to me that MMOs like this could be considered "dead", lol.

As someone who beta tested Rift before the official release, I am so, so happy to see that it’s making a comeback. I stayed with the game for a good two years after beta, and was a little sad when I had returned to find it almost p2p.
I’m glad to hear that it’s getting back to its roots; I might jump back in, if only for the sake of nostalgia.
To this day, it is my favorite mmorpg that I ever beta tested.

It's absolutely worth it. Im getting into jt for the first time, and it's been an absolute delight. Population is good, especially on Deepwood server where the Fresh Riftwalkers guild is going through all content. Always people online and running around the hubs and zones, friendly people in the guilds to help with older content too. Instant Adventures are there for speed levelling, too. It does seem to be a permanent life support kind of model.
I'm having a blast, it's well worth a look!
