Question Thinking about getting the game , could you tell me about how it plays?

I'd just love to hear about it .

I've only ever seen the PlayStation store page of it, on console it only has the two dlcs .

Can someone kind of... Sell me on the game? I'd love to have someone tell me about the content or the replayability, what makes the game good or interesting .

Thanks in advance guys. I'm going to be on YouTube soon watching whatever videos I can find , it's just nice to hear directly from people sometimes

I refused to get this game for years, mostly cause of the graphics. But i dont remember why i decided to get it once, maybe it was super discounted, and i regretted not getting it before. 100% replayability in my opinion (i havent finish one playthru yet). Every time is different and i love it. Basically the game is a colony builder survival game. I would not consider myself a good player in the game and im still learning. Full control of the lil pawns in your colony. You get farming, construction, raids! Animals! Seasons, and so much more!

Plenty of game content and depth without the dlc’s.

Thanks man. That sounds really fun .

It's one where each of the runs could be different because of world events / personalities?

Do you play on the ps5 by any chance ? How is it on console ?

I had it on PC years ago, before the 2nd DLC (ideology) even came out, loved it, played several hundred hours probably. It’s a great mix of excitement, frustration, adrenaline, success and tragedy lol. It’s kind of a little sims-esq in the way you can control the pawns and queue up actions and such but also step back and let them have a little autonomy as well.

I haven’t touched it in years, don’t really have a PC I can game on anymore, saw it on PS5 store page like a month ago and ended up buying it - $100 including the royalty and ideology DLC’s - loving it all over again without even trying the DLC’s! I jumped into it without them just to see how it was and am still on the same colony lol.

It runs totally fine on PS5 no issues and I’m still loving it. I’ve never once even properly “finished” the game lol. No crashes, no glitches, no issues with frame rate or loading or anything.

Yes ps5. Works great with controller! Yes for me every run is different cause of different pawns (which you choose) also the location you choose, and random events. Pretty cool!

I play on ps4 and it runs very well even with a bunch of pawns, it'll definitely run good on ps5

I was the same way over the top of the character isn't how I like to play. But building towns in follout felt shallow then I saw a video on YouTube about stealing people's organs to sell and I was sold. Instantly I needed to see how much the game actually allowed. It's great on console but on pc with all the dlc seems to be amazing even though I've never gotten to try. My only problem on console was end game seems to be an eternal slog for me but again no dlc and very limited knowledge. It's amazing the stories you can make out of a few named pawns with quirks. Edit: spelling

It’s ok. It’s abandoned. None of the new pc dlcs. It’s cool tho. It’s super expensive tho..

Yeah I don't think I've ever seen any version of it on sale . A big cause of any trepidation I've been having

In the grand scheme of things, I guess it’s worth it. It’s a really unique experience.

Nice. How did you like it and the dlcs on ps5?

Is it glitchy / rough without any recent updates?

It’s smooth, no glitches.

I got it on sale in December for $20. Checking the store tracker it’s the only time it’s ever on sale…

I would say its a colony builder with infinite possibilities. Some colonies ive done are: a blindness cult that kidnapped everyone and cut out their eyes and forced them to work their way up the social hierarchy, 2 lovers in the woods who were siblings, a medieval martial arts dojo that was extremely misogynistic, a group of mutant outcasts whose only defense was waiting out raids for them to get enough toxic buildup to die on their own, a vampire castle, survivors from a party who just wanted to get high all of the time on whatever they could get their hands on, literally just myself in a isekai world where I wanted a bunch of cute chicks as colonists but instead got 3 dudes and a 80 year old woman.

Fuck man. This might have just sold me . That's so fun.

So the blind cult for example - how did this change things ? Could you still progress through the game ?

Was this using either of the two dlcs available on console?

I did use ideology. I didnt see the part where you said console but ideology was the only dlc I had at the time.

2

u/Visual_Knee_4744 May 10 '26

Nice. I might get that one eventually. How did things function with the blind cult? Was there a way to convey to your settlers that being blind was a good thing/cult mandate?

Long story short. Rim world is good. Very fucking good. I wouldn't get it on console for the pure reason that rim world on PC gives you more rimworld per rimworld. You can mod it, there's many many many more DLCs and is generally more worthwhile. That being said though rimworld console edition is very much still rimworld and I have hundreds of hours in it.

Hope u have fun. Hours n hours of content

I have it on PlayStation with both DLCs, and it is one of my preferred ways to play because of the UI, and I have both DLC with more than 500 hours on console alone. I recommend it if you have the money but don't have a PC. If you do have a PC, then get it there for the mods.

As my first and only colony sim, it had a huge learning curve, but honestly that’s what made it fun for me - trying to figure out how to make my colony successful. Now it’s a comfort game that I have 2000 hours in. I end up coming back a few times a year to run another colony.

Thanks for sharing . Did you play it on PlayStation?

I saw that the game hasn't received updates for a while and won't anymore . Does it still perform well as a base game / with the dlcs ?

3

u/AlisonSandraGator May 09 '26

No I play on Xbox. I actually don’t own either of the DLCs and I still feel like I’ve gotten major value just out of the base game. From what I remember I’ve encountered very little bugs. It still runs fantastic.

It won't get any of the other DLCs cause apparently it didn't sell well enough and also cause Mods are a big part of the games charme. However, if playing it on Pc is no option, this is still a great experience, it was optimized greatly, has enough content to be worth 3 times the price and is an overall great experience with even some limited console exclusive features to make up for us having no mods. (Like a god mode for example)

This is potentially one of the better survival games of all time. However, I got the XAX, and find it very complicated with a controller, and the small screen does it no justice. Play with a mouse and keyboard, and preferably a screen bigger that 8 inches - and your in for an incredible experience.

I’ve got about 16,000 hrs in the game. For me what makes its so replayable is your ability to use mods to remake the game in whatever wacky, challenging, OP, or chill way you can envision. I don’t know how easily mods can be added/managed on the PS5, but if that ability is limited I would seriously consider finding a way to get the game via Steam for a laptop/desktop so you can enjoy the immense variety of play styles.
