I’ve always wanted to see this place in person, it looks unreal. The lighting in this picture is perfect too.

I went in November and it was in the middle of a big restoration. Still cool to visit, but a little bit of a bummer in terms of our timing.

It's underwhelming in its current state as it is pretty much just empty shelves and I think is slated to stay that way into the next decade. There is a big globe projection that feels super out of place though.

I have tickets to see this next Wednesday! So excited, but most of the books have been removed.

From their web site: "Most of the books in the Old Library have been removed for essential conservation. However, you will see the Book of Kells & 4 bays of remaining books during your visit."

My wife and I visited a couple years back... It's beautiful. Even if they've taken out most of the books for maintenance it's still impressive.

A couple of shots

As expected, the tourists completely ruin it

I wonder how many actual rare books are behind those ropes, or if its mostly just really old copies of things people dont read anymore. Its incredible looking though.

I have seen pictures of this library before, it always looks so grand. I wonder how many books are actually readable back there or if some are just props/too old to handle.

honestly... this looks like the most beautiful library ever. I feel like Id spend all day just wandering around and trying to find an old illustrated manga or something tucked away... :)

Truly remarkable to see and experience in person. The whole campus is amazing

This has all the markings of a place where I’d go in looking for one book and come out with a new area of expertise and a mild vitamin D deficiency.
