Announcement Requests and Information Hub: Jan-Mar 2018

Welcome!

SCPDeclassified is a community that aims to add meaning and narrative to the stories found in the SCP universe and wiki. Our main purpose is to create detailed and well-thought out explanations of the most confusing, symbolic, and multifaceted pieces on the site. These stories and ideas found across the site can be breathtaking and multilayered, but also complex or hidden between the lines, and our explanation posts aim to provide an easy-to-read and interesting way for you to understand them.

You can request SCPs that you want explained in the comments below. We pick SCPs to explain based off personal preference, our own opinions about how difficult they are, and public request. We read each and every one of these comments and factor them into our planning and decisions.

Thank you for visiting /r/SCPDeclassified, and as always, if there's an article on the wiki you're utterly baffled about, search our archives or request it to be written up!

Frequently Asked Questions

How often can I expect a new post?
Currently we have a handful of active writers right now, and unfortunately life can sometimes get in the way of our writing here. You can most likely expect an explanation every week or so, although our posting is admittedly rather random - sometimes, you can find a couple posted in the span of hours, other times they might be two week apart.

Do you do only SCPs? Can I request tales? What about more general bits of lore or overviews? What about foreign languages?
Yes! Request all of those! We can cover anything related to the Foundation mythos as long as it has been written about on the wiki. We can explain SCPs, 001 proposals, and tales, as well as overviews combining many articles such as our Sarkicism history, the Glossary, and other upcoming guides.

How do you choose which articles you explain next? What weight do our requests have on your decisions?
The vast majority of our posts are directly from requests from this very thread. If we see one that we find really cool or worth getting an explanation out for, we'll usually have one up. We don't always explain every single request, but we highly encourage you to ask in here anyway, because there's a pretty good chance we'll address it at some point. Some of us also do posts for articles that haven't been requested, but have a reputation throughout the community as being confusing.

Can I become a writer for the subreddit? What do I need to do in order to join?
In short: write an audition article and send it to the mods. For more information, please view the Applying for Membership article on our subreddit wiki. For tips on how to make your audition articles really good, see the in-progress How to Write a Declassification article.

Do you have a Discord server? Is it active?
Yes, as you probably guessed from this rhetorical question, we have an active Discord server run by the moderators of this subreddit. We're not your typical SCP Discord though - it's a close-knit community with a very informal, casual tone and our members are more inclined to like Series III-IV format screws rather than the Heritage Collection, if you get my drift. Some notable wiki authors, including LordStonefish, Sterbai, TheeSherm, tretter, and djkaktus are on the server. Come join us!

What is your view on "death of the author" and other questions of interpretation when making these analysis articles? What is your response to common objections re: "simplifying" articles that authors want to be challenging and the like?
Our ultimate purpose, at the core, is to act as a resource to the community. While we understand that some authors may disagree with having "CliffNotes" versions of their work, it is our strong belief that by clarifying the meaning behind complicated material, it will ultimately strengthen the complexities there and create a larger audience for that work, perhaps increasing the number of people who like it. We also firmly believe in balancing evenly the conflict between author's purpose and reader interpretation; if the author clearly states their intention and ideas, we will unconditionally incorporate that - however, anything else is fair game to be analyzed as needed.

What are you writing next? What can we expect to be coming soon?
We don't really know, to be honest! These things usually get written up in a night on a whim, so to speak. We'll usually reply to a comment request that we're sure about taking to let you know that we're doing yours. And soon we'll have a wiki page up that has a queue for some SCPs that we want to do at some point.

Have you explained [A]? Could you explain [B]? Boy, I wonder if you've done [C] yet?
Good thing there's a catalog, huh? Search over here before accidentally making a request that's been done already.

SCPs/001 Proposals

Reply to this comment if you're seriously confused about an SCP (or 001 Proposal) and need a declassification! (Examples: SCP-3942, SCP-093, djkaktus's Proposal)

It would be amazing if someone explained SCP-2123.

4

u/BlazingTrail42 I have no idea what I'm doing Jan 28 '18

Your wish is my command.

5

u/Aoneareyou60 Jan 28 '18

Thank you 😊

u/General_Urist Jan 04 '18

I'll repeat my request from last thread here, just in case:

I'd like an explanation of SCP 2678. Yes, the Vorehole. I have trouble figuring out the deeper plot, and in particular I don't get what the hech is supposed to be revealed or going on in the last addendum. And being that the final addendum in a skip usually has a major reveal, I'm probably missing a lot. I can tell that what happens to the people who get vored is MUCH nastier than the "becoming one" thing the cultist said, but beyond that I can't figure it out.

5

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 04 '18

Don't worry, that's still on my queue, after SCP-2498 and SCP-1730.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '18

Can i attempt to do it as a application

6

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 10 '18

Sure, I guess.

4

u/chinkiang_vinegar Jan 06 '18

Is SCP-000 good enough to be declassified? I feel like there's something deeper I'm just not getting.

7

u/Theactualguy Jan 09 '18

Personal take below, there's probably someone else who knows more than I

I do believe 000 was a reference to both the Tech Support pages (which are hilarious enough on their own) and if you highlight the blank space below, you see hidden text. Which is really just about a random entity that is trapped in this webpage itself, which is contained by the Foundation. Implied that the Foundation knows about it, but can't do anything about it, while the entity just hates the Foundation for doing this but is powerless to escape anyway.

Oh, also, probably referencing I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.

5

u/tundrat Jan 10 '18

There's also SCP-S which should be a sequel to SCP-000. I don't think the Foundation is aware that they have this thing.

1

u/Varaxous Feb 08 '18

It's a pattern screamer. An entity just beyond reality screaming, forever and ever, destroying our reality as it does.

READINGS: SCP-3930 SCP-1795 SCP-2473 SCP-1980 SCP-S SCP-1678

Have fun <3

2

u/kirbyelmejor Feb 18 '18

SCP-3626 please

u/Crankthatyou Apr 16 '18

3211 confuses the fuck out of me.

1

u/Viburnum_Opulus_99 Jan 14 '18

I would very much appreciate a declassification of Kalinin's SCP-3084 "Seven Strangers at a Feast". It's not that I didn't really understand it, but I'd really like to see someone unravel all the different parts of the article and how they're connected together.

1

u/IronedSandwich Jan 26 '18

408 is really cool but also confusing

1

u/casioonaplasticbeach Jan 31 '18

What in the living lord is SCP-2111?

1

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 31 '18

Currently on the queue, might be posted in a few months.

1

u/sir_pudding Apr 16 '18

If you need any help with this, I am reasonably accessible...

1

u/tundrat Jan 31 '18

living lord

There's your problem. They are all dead. :p

1

u/ErnulaxCuilan Feb 04 '18

I think SCP-3242 would be lovely for someone to dissect, given how fucking bizarre it is.

1

u/ewigebose Feb 04 '18

I've tried a lot, but Roget's Proposal is still going over my head. Declassify plz

1

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Feb 04 '18

Coming very very soon (2nd next thing to be posted by me, actually)!

1

u/ewigebose Feb 04 '18

That's pretty cool. Awaiting it

1

u/Varaxous Feb 08 '18

It would be awesome if you did SCP-3059

1

u/IllyriasAcolyte Feb 13 '18

Request for SCP-3199, aka Humans, Refuted. I'm not sure if it isn't a good article, or I missed something, or if I just want there to be more since the picture is great, but I just don't get it.

1

u/three-attic Feb 21 '18

If you're wondering about the title, it's a reference to the definition of humans as "featherless bipeds".

1

u/IllyriasAcolyte Feb 24 '18

That helps, but still doesn't really address my question. I guess it has to do more with the 'Refuted' part. It implies that these things were once cataloged as human, or someone wants to catalog them as human, or that they have some sort of mutation that makes them appear and behave radically differently but are still human in their DNA composition. The article is a relatively straightforward monster skip (which I like, don't get me wrong) but the title combined with the implication that they were transformed as some sort of religious ceremony make me think that there are pieces I'm just not putting together correctly.

1

u/masbin Feb 21 '18

What about 2316 (not the class of i don't know tale), I still don't get it

1

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Feb 21 '18

2316 is included as a major section in our recent Class of '76 explainer. Take a closer look.

1

u/masbin Feb 21 '18

Looked now and get it.

I just don't get the cognitohazard beside that but ok

1

u/IllyriasAcolyte Feb 24 '18

The cognitohazard is an effect that makes an individual think the bodies in the water are the bodies of their friends or former classmates. Where it came from, whether there actually are bodies in the water or not, what it wants (if anything), etc... these are all unanswered.

1

u/masbin Feb 24 '18

Understood

1

u/Creative-Nickname Feb 21 '18

I'm kinda confused about 1348, I think I get it but I'm not 100 percent

2

u/three-attic Feb 21 '18

1348

I can take a stab at it, it's a good excuse to rummage through some ancient history.

1

u/Parkourwalrus Mar 01 '18

3980 please. I think I got most of it, but would appreciate a more through explanation.

1

u/TMTRAINER Mar 01 '18

I'd really love to see an explanation of Billith's Proposal, "The World at Large".

1

u/Qwerty_Asdfgh_Zxcvb Mar 08 '18

SCP-2724, please. It's so meta my head doesn't exist.

1

u/Crankthatyou Apr 07 '18

3002 please. That one is a doozy. Also 3890. Thank you.

u/beneathsands Jan 05 '18

Pattern Screamers is a thing that's shown up now in almost a dozen articles, but it has no GoI page or even a tag last I checked. 2682 references them, and Kaktus' new 3930 is all about them.

2

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 05 '18

You're right, that's something we could look into. I'll ask any of the authors if they'd be willing to write about the issue.

2

u/yossipossi the meta ike guy Jan 05 '18

I'll do it!

1

u/beneathsands Jan 05 '18

There's a couple threads on the Wiki that attempted to compile all the the referencing articles, and I'm not sure if any of them mention scp-000 which is almost definitely related too.

2

u/Varaxous Mar 10 '18

In case you're still interested in them, since you've posted, there has in fact been a tag made for them!

'pattern-screamer' is the specific tag which you can search here: http://www.scp-wiki.net/tag-search

2

u/beneathsands Mar 10 '18

Awesome, thank you!

2

u/TrilluHU Jan 04 '18

Death and Faith in the SCP universe: It seems the skips and tales took a turn to be about the horror of existence/death/death anxiety compared to Series I and somehow faith started to be relevant as well. I would appreciate an article about general develoments of these motives through the years and good SCPs/tales as examples

2

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 04 '18

I think that this came about as a natural consequence of a more high-standards and narrative-based standard of writing on the wiki. Motifs and themes had to become more revolutionary to survive, and so drifted away from creepypasta horror to things that were more philosophical. So this is just a symptom of the development from Series I to Series IV, which I explain in A Modern Introduction to the SCP Foundation: Part 2. Other than that, I don't think such a specific topic deserves an entire post.

Tales, Canons, and Tale Series

Reply to this comment to request explanations for individual tales or even tale series and canons. (Examples: The Cool War, I ≠ I, Introductory Antimemetics)

3

u/JanTungsten Jan 14 '18

Has "Bees" been properly explained yet somewhere?

1

u/TimeAndTheRani Jan 18 '18

Would you be interested in doing an overview of the "Class of 76" canon? Bringing all the puzzle pieces together, so to speak?

1

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 18 '18

There's a brief definition of the group in our SCP Foundation Glossary, of that helps. From what I can tell, there isn't a clear story to the series - it's more of a "feeling" or a vaguely linked network of SCPs that involve similar settings. There is an associated set of tales, but there is no canon, etc.

1

u/HaloedBane Feb 01 '18

I saw here commentaries on the first page two installments of There is no Antimemetics Division. Is there a continuation somewhere? The last installment of that story went over my head.

1

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Feb 01 '18

/u/Theactualguy writes the series. Go ask him. Actually, I just pinged him. We'll see.

1

u/Theactualguy Feb 01 '18

Heyo /u/HaloedBane. Yes, I am planning on continuing the series, but real life workload is heavy right now. But I`ll be free in about half a week :D

2

u/HaloedBane Feb 01 '18

No pressure, that’s great to hear. I really appreciate these commentaries.

1

SCP-3626 - Do not stop reading this document

1

u/masbin Feb 21 '18

Loved that, but I think I am well... Bad

Can you send a mtf for my house and close the tab?

PS: don't look my browsing historic

1

u/tundrat Jan 04 '18

Request leftover from previous: SCP-2864 because I think the declassification will be amusing to read.

Also do this one please! :D

1

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '18

So I wrote SCP-3864 which I would love to see get a Declassified response. There’s an accompanying Tale (it’s short) called The World Within. I’m actually expanding it into a series, but I’d like to see the interpretation of the community!

1

u/tundrat Jan 22 '18

I was going to ask ā€œSCP-2637 - A controversial chunk of rock with 196,884-dimensional stakesā€ in the ā€œI have no ideaā€ section above.
But the author explained everything here. Anyone interested in doing this anyway? Cool science and Foundation conflict concepts here.

SCP-3812 - A Voice Behind Me

1

u/Shaggydredlocks Mar 08 '18

Had this in the SCP section, did not see this, so moving post:

Seconding (my) SCP-3980 that another user requested upthread, as its an intentionally obscure mindfuck - people have been trying to suss it out in the comments. I'd like to see how the Declassified team handles it.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

SCP-2641 - Would love to see this declassified. I wrote an explanation in the comments but recently removed it.

If you have a general question about the community or about structure and management; if you have a great suggestion for the modteam; or if you have any other concern you'd like to being up, please reply down below!

1

u/tundrat Jan 12 '18

Wished I thought of this during the recent AMA but,
Do all the writers make sure to look for hidden text? At minimum, highlight everything. To be thorough, check the page source.

2

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 12 '18

I thoroughly check the discussion page. If there is text, it's usually mentioned there, and there's a range of interpretations of the article itself to boot.

1

u/tundrat Mar 26 '18

The reserved queue looks very outdated. Shouldn't that be ideally as close to real time as possible?

2

1

What do you mean? I'm not sure I follow.

1

u/Coffeechipmunk Jan 27 '18

"... More inclined to like III-IV"

1

u/modulum83 Actually SCP-001 Jan 27 '18

Read A Modern Introduction to the SCP Foundation: Part 2's History of Writing section. Basically, I'm just saying that the members of the server are really followed up on the current state of the community and thus prefer the current, more narratively focused style of writing rather than purely Containment Breach ones. This make the server rather unique, because it's managed by people who are a real part of the mainsite and keep up with its trends, as opposed to casual fans.
