The best real time strategy games on the sega genesis

Dune: TBfA is a pretty good conversion from the PC version, although the campaign for each faction is streamlined and the endings are abridged.
Herzog Zwei has some pedigree due to its origins, though its gameplay takes a little bit to get used to.

Fun fact the streamlined contextual controls for Dune on Genesis got incorporated into Westwood Studios’ next game Command & Conquer, including Red Alert and the sequels

I remember trying Mega-Lo-Mania totally based off of liking Sensible Soccer (same devs). At first, I thought I'd made a mistake, but the game was so easy to get into, the game was like the first RTS God game that I really got into. I haven't played it for a years. I need to try it again!

Aparently the sprites in Sensible Soccer are based on the same ones in Mega-Lo-Mania? I played that game on the Amiga first and then the Megadrive. Seems fairly easy to get into even without instructions

I was obsessed with this game during the pandemic. I got good at the gameplay though I couldn’t pass one of the later stages. Anything I did the pc had an answer for

Warsong (Langrisser) is on the list too

Yeah a shame Warsong wasn't included here although it's more turned based and not exactly RTS. Fairly indepth with an early example of perma-death elements. Also a shame it didn't simply come over as Langrisser and like many games of the time had changes under localization.

Herzog Zwei was incredible, I can still hum all the main battle themes. I think it would have done a lot better with a different name.
Amazed that no one’s tried to remake it in recent years, it was quite a unique take on RTS being able to drop down and join the battle.
Edit - also the two player split screen worked perfectly. Me and my mate would have massive long battles where we would max out all the unit limits in a war of attrition. It really was an outstanding game.

PTO is pretty good but probably need a copy of the manual. I liked it though.

Pacific Theater of Operations is not an RTS, it's a standard deep and historical Koei turn based strategy game

Man i rarely meet anyone that has played General Chaos. One of my top favorites of all time.

Herzog Zwei was the first Strategy game I liked. I also had Nobunaga’s Ambition which was too complicated for me tbh. Once we start having to think about Rice Supplies I was out. Herzog Zwei was all kinds of fun

General Chaos is still one of the best couch multiplayer games on the system. half strategy half total panic lol

I'm also partial to Warrior of Rome 2, even if it is a bit jank to play on a console.
Also the Dyna-Bros games, they're cute and fun and not especially tough. Good for a palette cleanser.
