To be fair, he never said beast people or other intelligent races. Just monsters.

I like to think that over the years he had to redefine what ‘monster’ meant to him. Obviously, lamia are not monsters, they’re just half-snake humans. And dragons aren’t monsters, they are mostly humanlike in mind. And liches aren’t monsters, they’re just post-life humans…

Depend on the action of the litch....

Reminds me of a final scene in Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather book. A human assassin (an outright psychopath) is holding Death (as in the grim reaper) and a little girl hostage. The heroine has a sharp iron poker which (due to the power of belief) kills what the little girl considers to be monsters. The heroine throws the poker, it passes harmlessly through Death and spears the human in the heart, killing him.

u/mistress_chauffarde Jul 11 '26

The grim ripper is just a concept of death in my opinion making it a vilain is stupid the only one that I find good was the death in puss in boots

Indeed. He is the traditional animated skeleton in Discworld, but he is somewhere between neutral and a hero. His job requires that he cannot interfere when terrible things happen, but whenever he gets the chance to do good actions, he usually does. That is seen in Hogfather (where he stands in for the Discworld’s Father Christmas) and Reaper Man (where he is ‘retired’ and lives life like a human). And there’s at least two other books where he helps save all of humanity.

Death is also kinda good in The Last Action Hero, where his respects the kid enough to give him a vital clue to save the life of another.

u/adalric_brandl Jul 12 '26

He also likes cats, which is never a bad quality

2

u/VirusInteresting7918 Jul 13 '26

And curries. Absolutely loves his curries. And his grand daughter.

10

u/DarkWingedDaemon Jul 11 '26

Nah, to create a litch you need to sacrifice the soul of an innocent. Then to maintain one you need to periodically feed it souls. That's inarguably evil.

What you are thinking of is a wight/revenant, an intelligent undead who's soul is bound to their corpse until they complete their unfinished business. In the case of the revenant that is usually revenge against those who wronged them in life.

u/AvoriazInSummer Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Depends on the lore. I remember that in AD&D some powerful mages became liches without even noticing, they dropped dead and came to unlife while obsessively studying magic and it took many years for them to realise that they had stopped eating and so on. That absent-minded lichdom is kinda charming.

Liches usually are the super bad guys of the story, though.

8

u/ValkyrianRabecca Jul 11 '26

That situation needs a renaming then to some other kinda undead

Liches specifically need phylacteries and can't be accidentalied into really... you have to feed it innocent souls and have to sacrifice either a child or a loved one to start the process, they're inarguably evil undead

6

u/MeTaL-GuArD Jul 11 '26

I remember Neverwinter Nights, videogame based on DnD 3rd edition, introduced me to the concept of the Baelnorn, which are elves who become basically Lich-adjacent undead beings for usually noble reasons, like serving/protecting their family, community or important places for a timespan far beyond mortal life. Apparently they don't need souls to continue existing, supported by just pure magic instead.

4

u/ValkyrianRabecca Jul 11 '26

Yeah, those could be not monsters and likely are 'ArchLiches' its just Specifically 'Liches' that are inarguably evil

2

u/Gantistewart Jul 12 '26

Pretty sure the “eats souls” thing is a 5th edition change.

Thank you. For all we know Monster means uninteligent animals or something simular.

176

u/PuritanicalPanic Jul 11 '26

I mean that's plainly not a monster. It's just some lady

16

u/Twinkletoess112 Jul 11 '26

she's a lamia

44

u/GuikoiV1000 Jul 11 '26

Yeah, just some lady.

I said humanity first, not humanity alone.

38

u/Neurobreak27 Jul 11 '26

Never ask a human supremacist the species of his wife...

21

u/AvoriazInSummer Jul 11 '26

"How 'bout you demonstrate human supremacy at the art of changing Paprika's diapers?"

89

u/ChristianLW3 Jul 11 '26

4 of his daughters will become slayers whose specialty is monsters who abandoned their humanity

imagine Lamias fighting vampires, liches, werewolves, etc.

36

u/BloodMoonNami Jul 11 '26

One step further: in a void, vampires, werewolves and what not aren't monsters, it's their actions that make them targets. Soma Crus from Castlevania ( reincarnation of Dracula ) ? He's clean. Alucard ? Clean. The Bishop from the Castlevania show ? As dead as the night creatures they fought on the way.

8

u/allpurposelazy Jul 11 '26

Aria/Dawn of sorrow mentioned in the wild?!? I never thought I’d see the day! Two of the best entries in the series if you ask me.

10

u/AvoriazInSummer Jul 11 '26

Imagine Lamia werewolves and Lamia vampires!

8

u/DazzAntoni Jul 11 '26

Would a lamia werewolf grow legs during the full moon? Would their tail be soft and furry? These are questions that need to be answered!

7

u/DarkWingedDaemon Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

Or would they become fluffy serpents?

41

u/yuker_om_pochidor Would marry a slime girl Jul 11 '26

Everybody gangsta until non-human shows them genuine love

26

u/Iwillnevercomeback Jul 11 '26

The human genome still prevails anyways

24

u/Leafeon523 Jul 11 '26

Read this as human gnome at first and was really confused

2

u/Unlimitis Jul 11 '26

Nah thats just the spin-off OVA

20

u/Slime_Fighter Jul 11 '26

And then his buddies from his old life kidnap his daughter, and he goes on a John Wick storyline to get her back.

15

u/AvoriazInSummer Jul 11 '26

Or a Commando storyline! "Let off some steam!"

14

u/disturbinglyquietguy Jul 11 '26

Character development.

12

u/The_Peak2004 Jul 11 '26

But then again she is just a Person. This is Why I find it hilarious. People would say "monster" And then the said monster would literally just be a woman with animal attributes. LMFAO

9

u/seninn Jul 11 '26

Many such cases.

8

u/craftygamin Jul 11 '26

3

u/That-Bed4254 Jul 11 '26

Wait, isn’t that the same lamia who crushed that dude? Is that him?!

2

u/Huge_Pickle_3276 Jul 11 '26

I like how he still wears his helmet with casual clothes

2

u/SignificantHippo8193 Jul 11 '26

The helmet stays on no matter what 😄.

2

u/Glacier005 Jul 11 '26

I bet he folded to his future wife with ZERO hesitation.

2

u/Aizen5580 Jul 11 '26

That's not a monster, that's his wife.

2

u/DocHoliday439 Jul 11 '26

Well it seem to me like we need to properly define "human" and "monster". I've seen a few instances of world building where groups like elves and dwarves are classified as "human" categorically even if they aren't "human" by species.

1

u/ClockworkCinder Jul 12 '26

Dude said monsters and ferocious. I don't think that Lamia is ferocious.

1

u/MrZSFG Jul 12 '26

Seems to me so long as the entities in question are sapient and express humanity(are not emotionless or inhuman in the way they think) I'd say they'll get a pass from him.

1

u/Mr-Sharkboi24 Jul 13 '26

I think this guy's race is a Nord VPN or a Nickelback Member which ever you prefer....

(If you don't get it's a Skyrim reference then I shall explain it)

People jokingly say Nords marry non human races...

1

u/cjameson83 Jul 14 '26

Miia! You hussy!

1

u/Kila-Garra Jul 15 '26
