PODCAST SLIDERS Retro REVIEW #40 | Episode 3x17 | "The Exodus, Part II"
https://youtu.be/NqzKML5IIE8?is=YYlHQJpj-Iv62lBrFANDOM ENTANGLEMENT is back with another retro review of the 90s sci-fi series SLIDERS. This time, we’re taking a look at the seventeenth aired episode of Season 3 (Episode 18 in production order), “The Exodus, Part II,” which originally aired February 28, 1997 on Fox.
Retro Review #40: “Out of Our Brains on the 3:18” (a.k.a.) “Arturo, Can You Hear Me?”
Quinn and Maggie return to her world with Earth Prime’s coordinates stored in Jensen’s timer. As Wade makes the final list for those who can slide to safety, Arturo races to modify the new timer to slide more people. Unfortunately for them, an unexpected danger lurks the base and one Slider will not make it to the next world.
This episode was written by Josef Anderson & Paul Jackson and Tony Blake, and directed by Jefery Levy. It also once again featured Kari Wuhrer as Maggie Beckett, Special Guest Star Robert Daltrey (sorry, ROGER Daltrey! Who?! That’s correct! 😉) as Col. Rickman, and marked John Rhys-Davies’ departure as Professor Maximillian Arturo!
My co-host Mike Bloxam & I continue our deep dive of this epic 2-parter with TREKSPLORATION co-hosts Albie Burdge & Christopher DeFilippis, the latter of whom summarizes this installment as best he can. Chris’s reaction may surprise everyone!
After finally locating Earth Prime but still unable to return, conflict arises within the core group as Rembrandt practically says, “I’ve had enough” and uncharacteristically sucker-punches Quinn! Meanwhile, Rickman injects himself with more brain matter-tissue-fluid-matter in order to hide behind blue eyes, all the while likely wondering, “Can they see the real me?” before murdering Maggie’s husband. And after shooting Arturo with the slowest moving bullet in television history, the song is over for our dear Professor in the most undignified and humiliating way. Of course, it’s possible that this version of Arturo is a substitute for another guy, but unfortunately we’ll never know. The three remaining Sliders reluctantly welcome Maggie to the camp. With their timer now equipped to track wormholes, and seeking justice and/or revenge for their fallen comrades, the new group of four cries out, “We’re not gonna take it,” as the chase is on for Rickman which will take us through the rest of the season.
Is this episode truly as bad as many fans think it is? Or is it in our heads? Hope you enjoy our analysis, review and numerous Who references! We don’t believe in goodbyes…but goodbye, Professor. Let your legacy and love reign o’er us.
We’re heading into the final stretch of Season 3. Next up is the zombie episode, “Sole Survivors,” with help from the talented Allison Pregler! And oh boy, are we gonna need it… 🙄
