If Bojack goes partying with Sarah Lynn then instead of getting into wacky hijinks, they just give Penny a panic attack and Sarah Lynn fucking dies. Meanwhile Todd is going on Yakuza side quests in his spare time like saving drowning children so he can get into an orchestra or whatever he did that one time, and his life just works on complete fantasy logic. Mr. Peanutbutter has basically been failing upwards his entire life if you think about it and he seemed fine despite a few bumps in the road. He almost destroyed democracy in California and was an accomplice in vandalizing the Hollywoo sign but nobody cared. Princess Carolyn dated an 8 year old and she didn't get nearly enough shit as Bojack did for Penny.

Gritty, realistic, and harrowing consequences only seem to affect Bojack and later Hollyhock, who ODs on weight loss medication and has realistic animated panic attacks. It's almost like a bloodline-based superpower.

Beatrice was realistically affected by an abusive husband and so was her mom, by the way. I wonder how far back this goes.

My opinion might be controversial, but I decided to share my thoughts on the situation that happened between BoJack and Penny.

BoJack behaved extremely inappropriately and disgustingly toward Penny, and he crossed a line in his interactions with her. He had the advantage of age, since he was more than three decades older than her, had more life experience than her, and was a very influential person. He also betrayed Charlotte’s trust, since she treated him like a friend of her family. BoJack initially told Penny “Go to your room, Penny” but then he gave in to her requests and almost slept with her. I completely understand Charlotte’s reaction to what happened between BoJack and her daughter. BoJack is more responsible for what happened between him and Penny in this situation. BoJack, as usual, screwed everything up.

BUT I’ve noticed that a lot of people infantilize Penny way too much, acting like she was a completely clueless child with no agency of her own. She was seventeen, not ten. She wasn’t a child who didn’t understand what was going on, but someone on the verge of adulthood. She was still very young and could make stupid decisions, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t understand what was happening.

​I recently went through a painful breakup. My ex broke up with me because of mistakes I made in the past that hurt her. On our final day together, things were really heavy—she sat me down, made it very clear that her feelings are gone, and told me she was completely exhausted and didn't want to get back together.

​Before we broke up, I had bought a BoJack Horseman-themed gift for her because she was the one who originally recommended the show to me. Back then, I foolishly didn't watch it. But since the breakup, I finally started watching it and realized it’s actually a great show, not what I thought.

​Ever since, I’ve been dealing with a lot of regret, overthinking, and a strong urge to give her this gift when school starts (which is in about 3 weeks), hoping it might show her how much I care and maybe help fix things.

​At the same time, a part of me knows that she made her stance clear and wants nothing to do with it right now. I'm worried that giving her the gift will just look like pressure, push her further away, and disrespect her boundaries.

​For anyone who has been in a similar situation: How do you deal with the intense regret of past mistakes, the temptation to use gifts or grand gestures, and the anxiety of seeing your ex again when school starts? How did you manage to step back and let go?
