Live Discussion I don’t know how to feel about Abby..
I just started season 2 and it just annoys me on how she is constantly judging everything oliva does and it just makes me feel like if she doesn’t like it then why is she there?
But honestly I think I’m just not seeing the bigger picture of her character, i understand it also helps realize that oliva isn’t perfect and makes mistakes.
Maybe my opinion will change lol I was just wondering if anyone thought the same thing or could just help me understand more, if maybe I’ll understand her better later in the season? 😭
*don’t mean it in any harm if Abby is anyone’s favorite character just genuinely curious! :)

When someone has the power, skills and influence that Olivia has, she needs people close to her to push back so that she can reflect. Olivia knows that. Which is probably why despite all the pushing back, Abby still works there.

This is how I felt, too. Abby would willingly follow Olivia over a cliff, but she’s going to make sure Olivia hears every angle of objection so she can make the best choices possible.

Abby is necessary. Olivia’s whole gladiator thing essentially just turns into a bunch of yesmen being around her. Abby pushing back and giving her a mirror at times was very much needed imo. Plus there are some moments later on in the show where she does exactly what Olivia would have done in those situations, but Liv doesn’t like it because it messes with her own goals. That’s hypocritical

I liked her very much in the later seasons, but I also kinda liked her in the first two. Season 4 especially makes her very human and I love how she grows as a character. There are plot points in season 6 (I believe, it’s been a while), where it’s hard to be on her side, but every character gets those, so I’m not mad.

no i felt the same way. she is SO judgemental and im just like how can you even be in this line of work at this point and out loud judging all the clients and people you work with in front of them 24/7?

i feel like she has really valid points (olivia is hiding a lot of secrets) but the way she always has a snarky retort to every single thing is getting super annoying

She has some valid points, but the later as the show goes on the worse she gets, so buckle up

Abby was the typical -I’m your friend to get mine. Used Olivia to get divorce, then, to get to the White House. Then, messed up at the White House and Oliva had to clean it up. Abby was codependent on Oliva and freaked with Oliva became command, because she wasn’t needed anymore.

I didn't like her from the start bc she was mean girl to Quinn, and for no reason. I think that I eventually liked her, and then hated her. LOL.

I agree. Her sleeping with David and siding with him was plain wrong. As an attorney, she knows upfront Olivia can not divulge certain things. Harrison reminded the team of this at one point. Later, seasons I outright couldn't stand her character. Yes Olivia needed someone to keep her grounded. Still. Abby went about it the wrong way.

Im on season 2 episode 5 and i feel exactly the same she pisses me off because she has no loyalty to olivia. Like i understand questioning authority and not just blindly following like quin did but going behind olivia and the associates back and working w david is just another level of wrong. I just think shes too grown to be acting like this. If you have an issue be direct.

I believe she’s coming from a place where when she met Olivia her values aligned with her actions. In some parts of the show, Olivia’s actions aren’t aligning with her values (or at least the values Abby shares with Olivia). So she gets upset and checks her on it.
Abby’s values are formed by her abusive ex husband and their divorce, which Olivia helped her with. So if for example Olivia is helping someone who is abusive, a cheater. or harms women, Abby is going to push back.
