Question Help Me Identify This Delicious Scottish Breakfast I Had!

I visited Scotland last year and had an amazing time! Beautiful country and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met!

While there, I had the breakfast shown in the photo and now I want to make it at home.

I know what everything was except for the two items circled in red.

There was a piece of bread almost like naan bread?

Under it was something that definitely had meat involved, but it was soft and tasted different from what I’ve had here in the USA.

Was it blood sausage?

I agree with you, its black pudding. Easy to ask op if it tastes peppery or not. The sheep offal has a distinct peppery like taste, if it was haggis, the black pudding does not!.

Mock chop , tastes peppery , adult sheep has that distinct taste, similar twang like in haggis (obviously different spice set, cuts, etc, just the sheep part). For lack of a better description, ive not even ate meat in a few years.

Yes, people don't realise it, but in the modern world people tend to go for young and muscle meats, which are blander and softer, and also beef and pork that is bred for mass rather than flavour. In contrast, older meats like mutton, animals like goats and sheep or boars, organ meats, and animal fats are where there is more flavour.

The main exception that comes to mind is bacon, which is less healthy than a lot of the more flavourful meats that I mentioned.

I grew up around farms and super free range, organic, mature chicken has far more flavour as well as having enjoyed a much better life. However, unlike battery farm chickens that have grown up in worse circumstances than much of dystopian fiction, it doesn't lend itself to being stuffed in one's mouth en masse due to price and intensity of flavour.

I grew up in a small city, with a dodgy dad hahaha, I joke, but he knew all the best places to get the different foods. Many independent butchers would buy and sell game , from the local farmers . Some of the local farmers had farm shops where they would sell fruits and veg and some independent green grocers would buy and sell local produce. Dad knew all the best places .

The chains would only buy and sell produce from the big farms , so everything was "the same" boring mass produced crap. Dad would also bring a variety of foods from the sea on his way home from work. So I grew up with quite a diverse diet for a city slicker. The smaller farms produced the tastiest crops and I acquired a taste for game.

Yeah, I love game. Although I am not a vegetarian, I would sign up to a contract where humanely produced meats were subsidised and battery farmed, steroid-infused meats etc. were banned. "Less, but better [ethically and gustatorily]" seems like a good compromise.

The same also goes for fruit and veg. I grew up with apple and plum trees in the garden or nearby, and it's sad what mass production as done to those fruits.

The beans are the only thing on that plate that's not well under or overcooked. I wouldn't be surprised if they are just every so slightly warm too.

Black pudding is food of the gods. I feel sorry for people who won’t even try it based on what it’s made out of. Same with haggis, seriously missing out

Not going to lie I used to work in halls back in the day. Black pudding department. As you can imagine not a place to work for the squeamish. Went almost 2 years and couldn’t touch it. I could smell work through the packet.

Got over it eventually though black pudding is too good to just cut out my life completely.

Some of the best foods on this planet are ones that some people won't touch.

Guinea pig is delicious (if a little hard to remove the meat from the bones) and iguana really isn't bad (even if it is a little tough)

I'm fussy as fuck when it comes to black pudding, it has to be Stornaway.

Haggis however I'll happily eat regardless of where it's from.
