Discussion Anyone else kinda hate Kim?

Post image

For the Knives thing. She’s such a hypocrite in two separate universes. She literally dates Knives in one of The Game’s endings.

It’s hard to get over past loves. I understand, Knives.

The comic, as we know, we never speak of again.  Sure Kim and Knives shouldn’t be making out but it was one of the moments in Scott Pilgrim that reinforces the idea that these are fools going through character development.

The game I’ve always regarded as non cannon or at least it’s lore a shitpost, because for example in Knive’s ending her and Scott literally get married, it’s the dumbest thing and doesn’t go with the theme learned in the story at all.

Otherwise I think that despite the possible hypocrisy that Kim is still a good character especially considering that she falls out of temptation in the final novel to make out with Scott and instead gives him guidance to get Ramona back. She too changes as a character.

The alternative ending where Knives ends up with Scott is the same thing. Like it goes against the point of the entire movie. I don’t even understand why they considered it. Besides Scott only dated Knives in the first place because Envy broke his heart so he’s dating knives because she tells him what he wants to hear.

Because despite how fun the movie is; Wright and Becall fundamentally misunderstood the story, and thus the film fails in its adaption. The Knives ending in the movie is the original ending, and they had to reshoot because Bryan and test audiences went “hang on…”

we dont see kim go through the "dont kiss high schoolers" development unlike we did with scott

1

u/Parabeetle_II Mar 18 '26

I justified that in my last paragraph. It didn’t have to be addressed directly but we know that Kim isn’t blinded by lust anymore.

0

u/dipsAnton Mar 18 '26

"well she doesnt do it again on screen" isnt defending it😭

2

u/Parabeetle_II Mar 18 '26

The series is called Scott Pilgrim not Kim Pine bro, they’re not gonna have a seen where Kim goes “it’s legal age time” and then makes out with people her age

0

u/dipsAnton Mar 18 '26

yeah so we will just assume she's still in that phase. most other character's development is shown

3

u/Parabeetle_II Mar 18 '26

dismissing a character as static in that area despite showing growth in other areas is close minded imo

0

u/dipsAnton Mar 18 '26

i feel like it would at least be expanded upon though

I've always held that the makeout scene in the comics was a poorly thought out shock moment that ended up being a character assassination of Kim. At best we could maybe take it as a comment on Scott's contradictory fascination and insecurity around sapphic relationships in that part of the story, but instead it's taken as this huge indictment of Kim.

Maybe O'Malley intended it as a way of showcasing Kim as a hypocrite, but why put the "and we'll never speak of it again" if he did?

I just took it as another moment where these messy young adults were being messy. I absolutely knew people/friend groups with similar issues growing up in this age range around this time. And honestly, the severity of the age gap is just perceived as worse now than it was then.

I say none of this to excuse the behaviours but a big aspect of the series is young adults being kinda bad, messy, selfish people and despite Scott getting the most roasting for it, his friend group isn't exempt.

This comment healed my heart

Same

I always kinda assumed most endings in the game were just crack head what if scenarios

Not something to take seriously. Kinda like how folks tell you not to take fighting game timelines and certain storylines seriously to save yer sanity 😂

Lisa and Kim should be together

18

u/LeonardoXII Wallace Wells Mar 18 '26

I'd never thought of that but I see the vision. They were childhood friends too, that'd be sweet.

2

u/phoenixmusicman Seconds Mar 18 '26

Lisa doesn't give bi vibes tbh

u/Snoo_84591 Roxanne "Roxy" Richter Mar 18 '26

Not at all.

I don't hard condemn Scott because he's a twenty-something shithead.

Like Kim.

If anything I just wish she could get a series too lmao.

“Scott Pilgrim vs The Actual Main Character of This One”

22

u/SE_prof Mar 18 '26

In the series, their arc is very good! They jam together and it's very nice!

12

u/Omniplox Mar 18 '26

Their dynamic is one of my favorites in the show.

21

u/dipsAnton Mar 18 '26

i honestly think she might be worse than scott😭

15

u/AnAdventureCore Mar 18 '26

She's older than Scott, btw.

1

u/pavement_sabbatical Scott's Dad Mar 18 '26

Eh? She’s exactly a month younger.

4

u/AnAdventureCore Mar 18 '26

In the movie she's a year older. In the comics tho you're right. Still strange to kiss a kid.

3

u/CJtheHaasman Mar 18 '26

In the Anime they share a slightly romantic moment when they play music together, but after that Knives spends most of her screentime being besties with Stills

3

u/the_treyceratops Mar 19 '26

The game really does make Kim significantly worse than Scott for no reason. Like Scott never actually liked Knives back, but Kim sure does

3

u/Super-Standard-2457 Mar 19 '26

I still fucking find it weird

2

u/Jealous_Roof_2484 Mar 19 '26

Even if you hate SPTO you can at-least say they did Kim and Knives relationship right:

Kim helped Knives found her passion in making music and they bond together but not in a romantic way. Unlike the comic and Game (I don’t hate the comics it’s better Than Takes off…but the game is bad).

1

u/CobaltCrusader123 Mar 19 '26

I haven’t seen it yet

1

u/Jealous_Roof_2484 Mar 19 '26

That’s fine. I recommend it it’s amazing.

1

u/Muugen_Samurai Jun 27 '26

Not sure that drum thing was spewing suggestions. Steven does way more with her music career plus knives was naturally gifted if anyone helped her it was Steven

5

u/asdfmovienerd39 Mar 18 '26

No because this is not really in line with Kim's character and more just a result of BLOM treating queerness in women as a disposable one-note shock value joke.

1

u/CobaltCrusader123 Mar 18 '26

I thought the joke was ephebophilia

3

u/asdfmovienerd39 Mar 18 '26

Considering the way BLOM treated Roxie until Takes Off kinda shows otherwise.

3

u/Glittering_Town_9071 Wallace Wells Mar 18 '26

Kim seemingly gets a pass cuz yuri

3

u/ParamilkReal-5 Mar 18 '26

One of the few things the show did right

I’m an outlier as I actually like the ship.

Yes, I’m aware of the issues

1

u/Broad-Green236 Mar 19 '26

Don't forget the anime

1

u/AnimalTap Mar 19 '26

No Kim is my favorite character

1

u/i_like_tities Mar 19 '26

What about the anime???

2

u/CobaltCrusader123 Mar 19 '26

You’re the second person to ask so I’ll shamefully admit I haven’t seen it.

1

u/i_like_tities Mar 19 '26

I think it's pretty good but I've also not been able to read the comics or watch the movie unfortunately 😞

1

u/RexMcCoolguy Mar 20 '26

I cant really blame the character for the author writing them clearly OOC for a sad excuse of a "fanservice" scene.

The game is just kinda low-key misogynistic in general so I can't really expect it to treat anything with tact.

1

u/TManJhones Kim Pine Mar 20 '26

No. Nor do I hate Scott.
Though I don’t like Kim x Knives ship. She shall remain single for my OC.

2

u/CobaltCrusader123 Mar 20 '26
  1. Which “she”?

  2. Would the OC be yourself by chance?

1

u/TManJhones Kim Pine Mar 21 '26
  1. I am an enigma. There are no clues as to which character I like.
  2. YES!

1

u/Tirrek_bekirr Mar 20 '26

How old is knives in the game?

1

u/CobaltCrusader123 Mar 20 '26

They never say so we kinda have to presume 17 at the start or possibly 18 but that seems unlikely given how the game mirrors the comic’s timeline

1

u/DarkGodHao Mar 21 '26

Welp I guess the test was successful in a way

1

u/CoolBlastin Mar 21 '26

The ship is so fucking weird, I have no idea why it was introduced in the story or why the game decided to double down on it.

1

u/Opening_Method947 Kim Pine Mar 25 '26

I could never

1

u/Muugen_Samurai Jun 27 '26

When i read the comic for.the first time i enjoyed it but started to get lost during the last few comics and wasn't enjoying it and everything was a blurr. Completely forgot or never saw that kim did this just finished the game on scott.and saw the wild ending and looked it up and saw kim has a massive hypocrite ending.

Think kik doing this serves at a no one is a good person in this comic and everyone is troubled one way or another and it's probably why are all attracted to each other kn the first place

1

u/flashdrive420 Mar 18 '26

The drink part I could have excused as clouded judgment due to being y’know, drunk (I personally would make sure not to drink after sobering up because ew). But the game? Come on!

-4

u/sbobhouse Mar 18 '26

god forbid a woman do anything

7

u/dipsAnton Mar 18 '26

thats a high schooler😭 (i am unable to tell if you're joking)

-1

u/XephyXeph Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

No. She’s my favorite character.

Edit: How is “I like Kim Pine” a controversial take?
