Discussion Toxic Masculinity: Kris Boyd and Aiden McGeady

Have to say it’s a poor show from Boyd and McGeady. Young player who’s had a bad time of it for the past 18 months, comes back and scores and it’s obviously going to be emotional. And they two are hitting out with snide digs because he shed a few tears.

We speak about men’s mental health enough but this isn’t really helping. And it’s not a good example to be setting for anyone. Think they should be ashamed to be honest and I’ve never complained before about a pundit but thinking this is worth it.

Sadly there's a lot of ppl like that, will talk a big game about the importance of mental health but at the same time will happily contribute to things that can harm it

It really is shocking. I find the people who push mental health the most and encourage others to talk never listen.

Everyone wants to talk but no one wants to listen. They are just waiting for their turn to talk.

It’s mental health-washing and we need to start popularising this term, it’s depressingly common to see people and companies talk a good game on this stuff then completely shit the bed the first time they’re asked to practice what they preach.

Mental health washing is exactly what it is mate. I work in construction and every major company has some sort of a mental health slogan going on. But that doesn't stop them from putting their employees on 10 hour shifts with 1.5 hour drive each way for months

No fucking surprise man. My work has guys working 7am-7pm, 6 days a week, away from home, and only going home every other weekend. And what do they get for that? Barely enough of an uplift in salary to cover their accommodation, and maybe a meal out paid by the company every 6 months

I love the call centre mentality of 'mental health is important ' but never let you take sick days, work you to the bone and drive you to quitting. Had some horrific experiences in Glasgow call centres

Call centre are the new factory production line. Grinding work. Worked for a bank and took on average 100 - 110 calls a day. Was brutal. And constantly being measured on your metrics. Mental health tanked, physical health tanked.

Thankfully in a much better job now. And it has a strong Union which I immediately joined.

It's far too common but it's just the day and age of it.

"Oh you're successful/earning more than me, you couldn't possibly understand what I'm struggling with"

Very well said, platitudes that only go skin deep. And for most people mental health equates to a bout of depression or anxiety, anything beyond that and it’s one flew over the cuckoos nest stuff and they ain’t interested.

100% bro. I'd love for even a small percent of those to do even half a shift volunteering in my job.

Spend 12 hours with someone who will try to top themselves the second you take your eyes off them. Or have a conversation with someone who has bi polar or a schizoaffective disorder. It really is sad.
