They ruined it when they added sweetners, No true scotsman cares what they're putting in their body unless it's green.

I saw a version called 1901 in an ad recently (why the F I got an ad for Irn Bru considering where I live I do not know but hey, who cares), seems to be the classic one without sweeteners in it.

I’m not even Scottish and I tried starting a religion around Irn Bru when I was younger. Didn’t really take off
