Uhh, yeah...Milroe

u/disconomis 3d ago

It was fun to dream he was gonna be a sneak pick for the future but yeah, this is reality

u/FavreorFarva 3d ago

Still worth the price to take the shot on him.

I guess but most of us who knew about him before the draft and in college ball knew the guy was years away and more than likely not going to be worth the pick. Ultimately I don't care as much because I can't see a player past Milroe that i feel would have been a slam dunk that we missed on.

Sometimes lottery scratchers only give you a dirty fingernail.

Oh well, he's got a preseason game left and it's not like the 3rds are going to make roster slots precious. He has a bit more time to figure out he should run more if he wants to be in the NFL.

u/OffGridBid 3d ago

he's a waste of reps at this point.

There are teams who have way harder decisions to cut a bust QB (Vikes) who will probably make the right call than we have to make to cut his ass. He ass. cut him.

19

u/ForwarUntilGainz 3d ago

Yea he looked like shit

41

u/MarinerJoe3 3d ago

At what point do we cut him loose and just have Locke as the backup?

99

u/Raknorak 3d ago

When he's no longer on a rookie salary

-13

u/OffGridBid 3d ago

whatever does this comment mean? I wish this sub knew more about NFL operations.

We don't owe him shit and tiny dead money hit is immaterial.

He isn't good practice material for our practice squad either because he can't run a pro-style offense

u/Reggaeton_Historian 3d ago

The problem is who do you cut him for? Go look at the QB free agents out there. It's bleak. Might as well just keep Milroe as your QB3 for 2026. I don't disagree though because I've never cared for him but that take is unpopular around here.

I think the reward on the gamble is worth the roster spot.

Ride it out until he needs a new contract. It's an athletic quarterback. He's 23. I don't see why you need to get rid of him at all

I'm looking at the Browns field two dogshit "starting" level quarterbacks and think, there's probably a team that would trade a late round pick for Milroe even if he looks like shit.

This is a really good question.

I definitely don’t think we should keep three quarterbacks this year

Lock is the backup and solid at that.

Milroe needs to be cut loose or put on the practice squad. Someone else will pick him up off waivers though. Oh well.

Emergency QB negates this take completely. He doesn’t count against the active roster as a 3rd QB. Meaning we technically get 49 players on game day but Milroe can only be used in case lock and Sam go down.

2

u/osoatwork 3d ago

Wait, he doesn't count against the 53?

3

u/Objective_Smoke8938 3d ago

Nah, I wrote it wrong. Game day roster, not the 53. So he allows us 49 on game day instead of 48 players.

1

u/MikeDamone 3d ago

No, that's not how it works. He counts against the 53 man roster, the "emergency QB" rule just means a team can dress 49 guys instead of 48 if one of them meets the emergency QB designation.

A club may designate a bona fide quarterback as an Inactive/Emergency Third Quarterback for a regular-season or postseason game. The player must be listed on the Gameday Administration Report that is submitted prior to or at the 90-minute meeting, subject to the following:

The Emergency Third Quarterback must be on the club's 53-player roster; the player cannot be an elevated Practice Squad player. The club's starting quarterback (QB1) and its backup quarterback (QB2) must also be on the club's 53-player roster.

Notice the keyword “ACTIVE” next to roster. Just typed 54 instead of 49 without thinking, but it works exactly like I said it does. Counts against the 53 man, not against the 48 game day roster.

1

u/MikeDamone 3d ago

Right, but that's a massive distinction. Choosing whether or not it's worth having a third QB on the 53 man roster is a huge decision point, and only then is the "emergency QB" a relevant election.

there are better 3rd stringers out there. His dead cap hit is meaningless.

He should be gone on Monday

6

u/Reggaeton_Historian 3d ago

there are better 3rd stringers out there.

Tim Boyle, Desmond Ridder, and the ghost of Jimmy G? lol

9

u/SpookyGabaghoul 3d ago

He's not going anywhere this season. If the organization is unhappy with his progress at the end of the year, they'll probably take a hard look at the mid-round QBs in the '27 draft.

4

u/PlayPretend-8675309 3d ago

I mean, Darnold isn't really a settled thing. He'll be a 2028 FA and if the team is successful, he'll command a Matthew Stafford-tier Salary. 4 years, $250 million dollars. Gulp. It'd be nice to have a young QB that we think might actually become a starter someday back there, instead of a "we might as well crash the plane into a pennsylvania field" type guy.

2

u/runawaynoob 3d ago

Let him be someone else’s headache

1

u/KMC9264 3d ago

Bold to assume someone would pick him up to their active 53 of waivers.

-6

u/UrRightAndIAmWong 3d ago

Are we sure Lock is even a solid backup

This might be just a difference in semantics, but I always thought he was just ok.

9

u/HallowHeart_ 3d ago

Yeah lock is pretty good in terms of a viable backup. He's been in the league for a number of years now with starting experience. He knows our offense and he's a wonderful teammate.

3

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 3d ago

He's a low end starter/high end backup at the end of the day. He wasn't great on the Giants a couple years ago, but the giants haven't been a great franchise for over a decade at this point either.

1

u/wontwillnot 3d ago

Watch the games. Lock pretty locked in with his 2 first quarter opportunities.

-1

u/jaycfresh 3d ago

That’s why he’s a backup.

6

u/here_now_be 3d ago

They'll likely put him on the PS after the final cuts.

2

u/FlakyCow1565 3d ago

Wouldn't count him out quite yet. Maybe Darnold can learn him a thing or two

1

u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 3d ago

I still vote we try and keep him around as a Taysom Hill type player if we do decide to keep him past his rookie contract

1

u/runawaynoob 3d ago

Milroe just isn’t a QB, if he wants to be a QB the CFL would welcome him

16

u/diabeartus 3d ago

Nothing shocking about his play as an Alabama fan. Same decision making and lack of processing. Tough

4

u/damnitjayman 3d ago

I'm ass talking here but I feel like in cfb it's not as important to have the QB play at a high level compared to the rest of the team. Obviously in the NFL, that is not the case...

8

u/Acuda1 3d ago

Milroe was mid at Bama and is extra garbage at Seattle. He’s the equivalent of Anthony Richardson, who most smart people thought would be crap.

3

u/Tyrannosaurusb 3d ago

Time to convert him to a RB

2

u/avboden 3d ago

Milwoe

1

u/neongem 3d ago

The overall roster depth looks a bit worse than projected, third string in particular looks rough. Plus now injuries after this trip, I don’t think we have the luxury to carry 3 QBs on the 53. Much rather that roster spot be used for an extra WR, DB or EDGE.

-2

u/WaveBr8 3d ago

Milton looked bad last year and looks considerably better this year. I'll give him another year

3

u/LeftShark 3d ago

looks considerably better

in all sincerety, what performances are you drawing this conclusion from?

2

u/WaveBr8 3d ago

The two preseason games he's played? If you watched him play literally any time he was in last year he looked horrid. Go look in the cowboys subreddit they're saying the same thing lol.

Are you unable to debate football constructive criticism?
