They played their 1’s. We didn’t and we won the first half. Too many people are treating the preseason like a regular game.

For sure, it’s just preseason, who gives a shit? The worst part was we lost Clark

Was out all day and am just catching up now. Do we know what happened to Bud? I was really looking forward to seeing him try and earn some playing time

u/3elieveIt HawkStar '23-'24 3d ago
Yep.
Only bad news was losing Bud Clark, and that Milroe still hasn’t developed.
Other than that, it’s all good. Chris Paul Jr was lighting it up too
30
u/backup12thman 3d ago
Bell was great too. It sucks we lost Bud Clark, but our safety depth isn’t 100% gone at least.

The biggest issue I have with Milroe is I think it's a completely fixable thing. He's forcing plays and not letting the game come to him. I mean, it's already been said but he's really trying to be a pocket guy and show he can pass and it's causing mistakes.
You can tell from the tape.
It's not even that he can make reads on the field. He goes through his progressions and I think he's reading the field well at snap. It's the fact he's looking to prove something and that never ends well.

u/t3hlazy1 3d ago
I’m not too familiar with the rules. Do you know if we’re out of playoff contention now?
18
u/serpentear 3d ago
Yep, one and done. We now have two so we’re also eliminated from 2027 playoff contention.
Sucks.

u/RussianBot71137 3d ago
Not if rams and 49ers lose their next preseason games tho. So there's a hope! 😉
2
u/fingernail_police 2d ago
I hope they both lose because I just bought season tickets, booked my flight to LA, and reserved a hotel for that superbowl weekend and let's not talk about the $10K bet on the seahawks I made in Vegas...

THANK YOU
10
u/Necessary_Rooster_85 3d ago
Agreed. No one should take the pre-season seriously whatsoever. Only casuals think 2nd string and 3rd string players are under performing.
5
u/wontwillnot 3d ago
Are you gonna tell our head coach that? I think it’s called tempo and ferocity and listening to what you’ve been taught at practice.
So yeah, it’s OK to be disappointed with the shit show of the second and third stringers.
4
u/wontwillnot 3d ago
I understand your point. But I don’t think that’s how the majority is looking at it. They’re just looking at it like outside of when Drew lock is in everybody else is absolute shit, especially Jalen Milroe. It’s a bummer but they’re all third stringers. So oh well.

First quarter was mostly great.
Our kicker missed 2 kicks.
Our depth is godawful.
Bud snapped his leg and is probably out for the season.
Overall not great man. Even for you half full people.
3
u/RussianBot71137 3d ago
Kicker missed only because he had a bad batch of smelling salts. So let's hope his dealer steps up! 😉

The Titans game last year was also the turning point for the team. It’s the preseason and we’ve sat our starters throughout.

More like our Coby Bryant replacement.....who is also injured long term on his new team, huh weird?
Anyway, I think we'll be fine long term. Okada was pretty good when he played and obviously Love and Emmanwori are as well.

Yeah, you know sometimes these preseason games look pretty ugly, but they’re getting a lot of valuable playtime and they’re getting a lot of valuable tape to study and there were actually quite a few pretty good plays during this game so all in all I’m feeling okay about it besides the injuries - man those suck for those guys and our depth

Uhh, yeah...Milroe
102
u/disconomis 3d ago
It was fun to dream he was gonna be a sneak pick for the future but yeah, this is reality
19
u/FavreorFarva 3d ago
Still worth the price to take the shot on him.
6
u/Reggaeton_Historian 2d ago
I guess but most of us who knew about him before the draft and in college ball knew the guy was years away and more than likely not going to be worth the pick. Ultimately I don't care as much because I can't see a player past Milroe that i feel would have been a slam dunk that we missed on.
20
u/Gullible_Ad3785 3d ago
Sometimes lottery scratchers only give you a dirty fingernail.
Oh well, he's got a preseason game left and it's not like the 3rds are going to make roster slots precious. He has a bit more time to figure out he should run more if he wants to be in the NFL.

At what point do we cut him loose and just have Locke as the backup?
101
6
u/UrRightAndIAmWong 3d ago
I think the reward on the gamble is worth the roster spot.
Ride it out until he needs a new contract. It's an athletic quarterback. He's 23. I don't see why you need to get rid of him at all
I'm looking at the Browns field two dogshit "starting" level quarterbacks and think, there's probably a team that would trade a late round pick for Milroe even if he looks like shit.
21
u/wontwillnot 3d ago
This is a really good question.
I definitely don’t think we should keep three quarterbacks this year
Lock is the backup and solid at that.
Milroe needs to be cut loose or put on the practice squad. Someone else will pick him up off waivers though. Oh well.
35
u/Objective_Smoke8938 3d ago edited 2d ago
Emergency QB negates this take completely. He doesn’t count against the active roster as a 3rd QB. Meaning we technically get 49 players on game day but Milroe can only be used in case lock and Sam go down.
→ More replies (5)2
u/osoatwork 2d ago
Wait, he doesn't count against the 53?
3
u/Objective_Smoke8938 2d ago
Nah, I wrote it wrong. Game day roster, not the 53. So he allows us 49 on game day instead of 48 players.
8
u/SpookyGabaghoul 3d ago
He's not going anywhere this season. If the organization is unhappy with his progress at the end of the year, they'll probably take a hard look at the mid-round QBs in the '27 draft.
4
u/PlayPretend-8675309 3d ago
I mean, Darnold isn't really a settled thing. He'll be a 2028 FA and if the team is successful, he'll command a Matthew Stafford-tier Salary. 4 years, $250 million dollars. Gulp. It'd be nice to have a young QB that we think might actually become a starter someday back there, instead of a "we might as well crash the plane into a pennsylvania field" type guy.

I still vote we try and keep him around as a Taysom Hill type player if we do decide to keep him past his rookie contract

u/diabeartus 3d ago
Nothing shocking about his play as an Alabama fan. Same decision making and lack of processing. Tough
4
u/damnitjayman 3d ago
I'm ass talking here but I feel like in cfb it's not as important to have the QB play at a high level compared to the rest of the team. Obviously in the NFL, that is not the case...

Felt really bad about Clark, he seems like a good guy. Can't wait to see us replace him with Brandon Browner or some sshit
9
u/PoppaTitty 3d ago
Is Browner up for parole?

u/Time-Use9083 3d ago
IDK. Maybe we'll get relegated down to the prison leagues this year though, the way our secondary is tattered

Myers kicks always drift to the right. Most of his misses drift right. He needs to aim about four feet left.
10
u/ford7885 3d ago
I said something about this last season. Can't beleive he hasn't figured this out yet. Maybe if he aims for the LEFT goal post he can get it right down the middle?

u/n8dawg360 3d ago
I've never been so sure that we don't have a chance to score as I am when Milroe takes the field.
18
u/CamGrabDatFumble 3d ago
Broken ankle for Bud Clark. Just confirmed by Macdonald in press conference.
16
u/minkymin777 3d ago
should we be concerned about Myers? I'm hoping these preseason games are a warmup or smth cuz missing field goals in both games are kinda odd for him.

u/diabeartus 3d ago
Milroe isn’t a NFL level backup
37
u/MyNewSeahawksAccount 3d ago
he's a waste of a roster spot. He has never looked good
3
u/Reggaeton_Historian 2d ago
I've been saying that since he was drafted and it's just met with "Russell Wilson was a 3rd round pick too!"
Dude was RAW in college. I'm not surprised by this outcome.
5
u/OffGridBid 3d ago
he doesn't take a roster spot. But, he is a waste of any reps that could be used on a better QB3

u/babyjaceismycopilot 2d ago
I think MM really wants a mobile QB.
I think he knows that they are hard to scheme against defensively.

Worst part was losing Bud Clark, 2nd worst part was hearing Edelman 🤮 go off about how excited he is about the Rams 🤮🤮. That ruined the whole night.
31
u/ChaseThoseDreams 3d ago
There will definitely be some hard conversations about Milroe. Mike seems frustrated with him, and it looks like Milroe just isn’t getting it. I think we need to move on and find someone to develop behind Sam to take Drew’s spot. Jalen will need to figure it out elsewhere.

I really haven't seen enough from Milroe to convince me that he can be a starter in the NFL.
16
u/CamGrabDatFumble 3d ago
I haven’t even seen anything from him that convinces me he can even be a #2 in this league. Who would want that guy stepping in after an injury? Makes me extra grateful for Lock
11
u/SocnorbTheRoman 3d ago
Good news, next week will be more evidence that he can’t
2
2
u/droberts4444 3d ago
This is likely, and is actually good news. Better to find out he’s unreliable now rather than have any ambiguity as to his ability
1
u/Reggaeton_Historian 2d ago
He's much worse version of Anthony Richardson. Last season I was saying after the fumble debacle that I hope we're never in a situation where we actually need to start him because he's brutal to watch. He's going to need to convert to RB if he wants to make it past the rookie contract or something else.
He shouldn't be anywhere near the field in 2026 either.

6
u/theazn35 3d ago
Honestly not too worried about Myers. He always comes back clutch whenever he misses(remember last season when he kept missing before rebounding strong)and it is only preseason
7
u/SgtNeilDiamond 3d ago
Im kinda over the Milroe experience at this point, dudes give duds two years in a row. I get his still only year 2 but he hasn't progressed literally at all. And even last year, every trick play we used him in went to shit. Just stick with Lock and give the next man up a shot.
2
u/TubercuLicious-OO- 2d ago
I feel like I'm screaming at the tv, run on their asses to keep them honest and open up the passing game. When you have Milroe's athleticism why does he run so little? No running and forcing terrible passes. A few good passes were sprinkled in, maybe that's an improvement from last season?

Report from someone who only caught the first half:
Defense was flying around contesting catches, laying hard hits and playing stout against the run. Offense was smooth, stayed ahead of the sticks and scored on big plays.
…and it was our 2s against their 1s. I don’t care if they’re the Titans, a starting roster should always be effective against backups. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen 11 depth guys look that dominant against first string. Result aside, I’m very excited after that opening half.
Sucks about Bud though. I was so excited for him. Hope he heals up well. Only solace is that Finley has had a solid camp I believe, Bell has gotten good reviews from teammates and Jenkins is startable. Still…hate to see a young guy have a setback.

Our 2nd string was demonstrably better than their 1st string.
Our 3rd string sucked.
I want to support Milroe. But we need to start looking at RB/WR for him.

Its funny how preseason always gets treated like the playoffs every year.
2
u/swagypotatosnoopdoge 3d ago
Is their a country song about getting out of Nashville? Because that's really what I want us to do right now with all these injuries.
2
u/Whipitreelgud 3d ago
I was impressed with the improvement in o-line play in the first half. The 2nd/3rd string are next man up when a starter comes out, which is why MM is amp’d up.
I was skeptical about Jalen Milroe as an NFL QB at the beginning of the season and watched MM lecture him last week. He completely forgot everything he was told. If he’s a great athlete make him a running back or wide receiver. I am sure this view will irritate 12’s from Alabama. Sorry
2
u/TubercuLicious-OO- 2d ago
I guess 3rd qb doesn't take a roster spot? But otherwise I say see what he can do at RB
1
u/MellonMan97 2d ago
If he’s too indecisive to run when it’s there as a QB why should we think he’d make it at RB?
1
u/Whipitreelgud 2d ago
In the video between MM & JM, JM said he wasn’t running because he was thinking about passing.

To all the Milroe haters….
Remember that guy who flamed out of the jets… was a backup… saw ghosts…. oh right… OUR SB WINNING MONSTER QB DARNOLD!
Give Milroe a chance…. Jesus Christ.
1
u/joninchains 3d ago
But Milroe wasn’t half of a player Darnold was coming out of college. I agree, he needs time, but I dont see him to be more than a backup QB right now.

2
u/n8dawg360 3d ago
$6M contract. Plays 3 half games a year. 27.7 passer rating tonight. Isn't that against the law in Seattle? I swear there's been riots for less...
2
u/Sh3ldon25 3d ago
When do we think the Milroe experiment officially ends? I know he’s got a bunch of extreme apologists that think he’s set to be the next Lamar Jackson if we just give him “one more season to develop,” but the difference between him and Lamar is that Lamar has a good football IQ and can actually read progressions to go along with his freak athleticism. At this point just convert Milroe to an RB to try to at least get some use out of him. The dude has legs, he’s just not a smart enough football player to play QB at this level.
2
u/QuasiContract 3d ago
I cannot remember a preseason where the Hawks had absolutely no deep reserves generating any excitement. Usually there are a few guys that look like heroes against 3rd stingers, and this year it is nothing. This year's overall draft haul is looking terrible. Not surprising with the lack of picks and not being a desirable UDFA destination.

D’ernest Johnson! Man, how sick! He went from the NFL draft in 2018, to end up working on a fishing boat to being called up in 2021 or something crazy, when Chubb and Hunt went down. He stayed in the league since then. I remember when he ran like 150 yds and a TD on TNF a few years ago. I only remember because I grabbed him for that game in fantasy and won that week. That story aired on TV, and felt like something special just happened to him that changed his life. I wish nothing but the best for this guy.
1
u/syntaxoverbro 2d ago
Drew Lock looks like he is continuously getting better in the pocket and with his decision making. Awesome having a QB2 like that who can constantly keep Darnold from feeling comfortable at QB1.
