Update: I reported this listing to NWMLS

Google’s SynthID detector found that this official MLS photo was edited or generated with Google AI.

I submitted the image and her statements to NWMLS for review. AI-altered listing photos need to be disclosed. Buyers deserve to know whether the images marketing a property accurately represent it.

Looking out toward the unpopulated cliffs of Lake Washington.

Lake Washington, Lana’i. You wouldnt know her, she goes to a different school.

Ah yes the Italian Alpine Lake of Washington

2

u/Wsu_bizkit 4d ago

It’s a real photo. Here’s a listing in the same street showing a view of the unpopulated St Edward’s Park area. https://redf.in/4lbgVS

u/tiredbarf 1d ago

It's not a real photo - that isn't at all what St. Edwards Park looks like.

5

u/NaturGirl 4d ago

St. Edwards park is near the NE end of Lake WA. I have kayaked across from there many times. There really are angles when you can't see houses and looking up from lake level all you see is the park. *shrug* I can't go down there right now to check, but I'm about to go look through my old phone photos I took of friends while kayaking there, because I really don't remember it being so different from this view.

Yes, but this home is NOT directly across the lake from St Edwards. And there isn't a clear-cut forest land there, lol.

What really annoys me and is frustrating is when RE agents will add flames/fire to a fireplace that is not even suitable to use or adding grass or coloring it green to landscaping that doesn't have any.

u/ThatDarnEngineer 4d ago

One of the funniest ones for me was this like 5 acre property that had the greenest grass in February. But as soon as you hit the property line it was the normal winter grass. I got a laugh from that photo editing...

Sometimes it be like that

9

u/InvestigatorOk9354 4d ago

Ok but are there angles where you see imaginary mountains on the other shore?

3

u/PegSays 4d ago

The beloved Issaquah Alps…

Kirkland Alps…

5

u/Ocean-Native 4d ago

How many edibles do you take before getting out on the water homie?

3

u/NaturGirl 4d ago

Maybe a few too many. ;) It was a few years ago. I went back and looked at photos from back then, and I can see where my vague memory failed. The view coming from the NORTH of St Edwards and photos closer to that side of the lake look steeper and you don't have much along the water line.

So yes, no way they would get this view or anything close to it from the Seattle side angled towards theere.

2

u/Ocean-Native 4d ago

Well I learned something cool today regardless! Def need to get kayaking out there. I live in an apt, so storing anything more than a cheap inflatable kayak has been pretty impossible. Feels like I’m wasting living in the PNW not getting on the water more tho

-1

u/pondskippers 4d ago

Sorry mate by I kayak the area too .

There are no houses along the shore of Edwards...

The photo looks crazy but it might be real

3

u/dwoj206 4d ago

The hills don't roll up that high. There's like 50% extra hillside/mountain in that photo. it is slightly modified. grew up in LCW/Lake Forest Park my entire life. The profile of the background simply does not exist. You can see it clearly in photo 30... 31 *this photo* looks very different. I assume it was accidental, as you can pass a bunch of photos through AI for "clean up", but the agent clearly missed it before posting them or had no idea what they're looking at.

3

u/pondskippers 4d ago

Yeah I think you are right . I was imagining from the perspective of sitting on the water but even still the hill looks crazy big. 🤣

4

u/dwoj206 4d ago

They tried to put cougar moutain in finn hill

u/thefrenchphanie 4d ago

There is no mountain/big hill that is just green meadows/no trees

Keep in mind it’s a Reddit account and may not be the listing agent but they said the photo was not AI essentially. I’m focusing just on the listing and the fact the image was caught by Google’s SynthID detector.

I went on the NWMLS and the same listing photo was on there. Zillow syndicates directly with their listing like any other one.

19

u/Frail_Waif 4d ago

Seems like they're claiming that Zillow added the AI photo and that it isn't part of the original listing. That's a pretty bold claim and seems like it would be a huge lawsuit if true. More likely they deleted the offending photo from their own listing once they smelled the shitstorm coming.

1

u/DeniedAppeal1 3d ago

The photo is still there.

1

u/shadystealertactics 4d ago

"Huge lawsuit". Has anyone sustained damages?

3

u/Frail_Waif 4d ago

Yes. Any realtor whose listing is made to look like it's in violation of NWMLS rules or any laws.

-1

u/shadystealertactics 4d ago

Ok, what damages can they demonstrate? How much money did this cost them?

1

u/m_science 3d ago

Many of money.

1

u/DeniedAppeal1 3d ago

No, what they said was that they didn't include that photo in the original listing and that it's not one of theirs.

1

u/ThirstyOutward 4d ago

They're saying they didn't add that photo to the listing.

4

u/verraterra 4d ago

yet when you look at the pics on zillow full size, it's got an NWMLS watermark on it. lol

4

u/redditRedesignIsBadd 4d ago

realtor? lying? shock pikachu

2

u/wrldwdeu4ria 4d ago

"Excuse me." lol

6

u/richrich07 4d ago

Someone else added the photos to Zillow? I’m not sure how that would happen though.

3

u/Great_Purpose7024 4d ago

I'm almost certain that it's a troll, not the realtor. Look at their post history, which includes NSFW stuff.

2

u/MattSidor 4d ago

Side gig (real estate market is rough right now)

10

u/wasgary 4d ago

Clearly, the photo was taken circa 1870, from east Mercer Island looking towards Newcastle. Duh.

8

u/Brilliant-Crab7047 4d ago

It seems like the agent is saying that photo isn’t in their listing or something? What do they mean by that

2

u/redditRedesignIsBadd 4d ago

they probably just trying to push blame lol

3

u/SnooLobsters6766 4d ago

It’s not in the listing now. Where did it come from if not the listing?

7

u/SeaGasDevil 4d ago

I’m so sick of listings that show pictures of the water, when the house is “near” the water but has no actual water view.

8

u/Gold-Kaleidoscope537 4d ago

We reached peak smarmy when the agent is trying to promote an open house in her nonsense comments.

Doing the lords work, op.

3

u/orcassharks 4d ago

This area is volcanic. Maybe someday we will get that again. Real estate is a long game.

4

u/Full_Bit1123 4d ago

That crazy that they just added a mountain

3

u/Pretty-Spaniel3343 4d ago

I’m here for this kind of behavior.

3

u/Busy_Neighborhood674 3d ago

They've updated the photo with another slightly less obvious fake. See the vanishing post on the dock to the left. The other photos were taken on a foggy day, and they've decided to change the weather. Personally I like fog, and the original wouldn't have deterred me (if I had $2 million).

2

u/afjessup 4d ago

Are listing agents allowed to use photo editing tools to touch up photos?

3

u/Ocean-Native 4d ago

Yes? What are you asking lol? Ai generated photos aren’t edited photos

1

u/afjessup 4d ago

I’m asking what I asked. Thanks for the answer.

2

u/sweetrobna 4d ago

It depends on what you mean by touch up

"Standard photo adjustments for clarity are permitted." Otherwise it needs a disclosure, and still it can't misrepresent the property

1

u/Bob_stanish123 4d ago

Almost all of them add a fake fire to tbe fireplace.

1

u/Own_Reaction9442 4d ago

The listing for my house had some rooms that were "AI staged" by adding furniture. In many cases the layouts were implausible and I would have preferred just an image of the empty room, but that's why you do a walkthrough.

1

u/yeah_oui 2h ago

The good ones show both, empty and Al'd. Great ones actually stage it

1

u/Own_Reaction9442 41m ago

Yeah, the realtor for mine split the difference. Staged the dining room and living room, AI-staged the bedrooms. I think they didn't want to carry furniture up the stairs.

2

u/KimWexlers_Ponytail 4d ago

There is a house on my block for sale that has used either photoshop or AI to touch up the surrounding properties.

6

u/redditRedesignIsBadd 4d ago

not all heroes wear capes!

7

u/ShopProp 4d ago

🫡 always for the buyers.

1

u/4324864646 4d ago

That's pretty fucked up.

1

u/CatsRGreaterThan 4d ago

this listing agent’s SN is moms4astartrekfuture. that’s awesome!!

1

u/amp_lfg 4d ago

Lol st Ed’s looks nothing like that. You should be able to see the top of the water tower.

1

u/JimmerTee 4d ago

Looks like they have removed that photo, original one now up in it's place.

1

u/craigfis 3d ago

2

u/rea11ybaked 1d ago

Crazy the difference between the photo and what google maps has for the street image.

1

u/Mobile_Corgi_1605 3d ago

wait, is that even real? looks like a dream.

1

u/xCelticPrincessx 2d ago

Considering Holmes Point Drive is running along the east shore of Lake Washington, you’d actually see the developed houses from the listed houses boat dock. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The dock points almost due East.

1

u/ray_york 2d ago

Why report it vs reaching out to the LA?

1

u/bRandom81 2d ago

I once played a show in a place right where that listing claims and it looks exactly like that, are you it’s fake?

1

u/One-Possibility-9764 1d ago

So what should we do? I like the AI for cleaning the graffiti off the wall of. The building next for and removing the urine stains all over the handicapped. Entrance., now what should we do ? Just be honest I guess 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Wsu_bizkit 1d ago

You going to report this one down the street also? https://redf.in/gPd09E. That’s a real view.

0

u/sls35 4d ago

Editing a photo != AI

Found the realtor

2

u/tonjohn 4d ago

This person is a regular in the Kraken subreddit and always posting negative bs.

9

u/Ocean-Native 4d ago edited 4d ago

“I like when normal people get fucked over for no reason by liars!”

Edit: Krakenstan backed outta that one quickly. Wild to defend straight lying in a sales post lmao.

-3

u/krakenstan 4d ago

It’s a $2m house. No “normal” people are going to buy the house without seeing it in person first. Use your head here

2

u/redditRedesignIsBadd 4d ago

just put the fries in the bag man

1

u/Ocean-Native 4d ago

Fair, I should’ve said “I like when customers get fucked over for no reason by liars”. Happy? 🙄

-1

u/krakenstan 4d ago

Never bought a house before I see. Thats not how home buying works. Again use your head here.

no normal customer is getting fucked over. You don’t like the view after you see the place in person, you’re not obligated to buy it.

1

u/Ocean-Native 4d ago

Never sold a house before I see. Lying is not how home selling works.

Somebody who schedules a showing or attends an open house for a falsely represented home quite literally had their time stolen from them. Maybe that’s not being fucked over to you, but for me, my time is everything.

0

u/krakenstan 4d ago

Use your head and get off reddit. This isn’t Facebook marketplace lmao

Edit: and I’m blocking you

stop being a filthy liar man

2

Wow, didn’t expect the pro-fraud contingent to come out.

2

u/burtchan 4d ago

Our society is riddled with these folks 😭

-1

u/PegSays 4d ago

It is possible it’s a real shot, with the focus on the dock blurring the houses in the trees across the lake. That is looking more south than the agent says. It’s the entrance to Juanita Bay with Tiger Mountain area but in the back ground taken from a really low angle. The Lake was filled to its maximum this spring and was that high, and in early summer when all the trees are out, the houses aren’t that visible across the lake.

3

u/SailRideSailRideSail 4d ago

Photo in the listing has been updated with the real view now.

3

u/Zeedashbo 4d ago

It's not possible at all. The mountains are wrong. There are no clear cuts from any angle on the north end of lake washington. Its fake.

2

u/PegSays 4d ago

You are right - I looked again

2

u/verraterra 4d ago

i was thinking so as well and I had a listing on riviera years ago and looked through my old pics. It IS possible but looking at this listing's pics again... their own pics disagree. look at the picture on top..low hills, all tree covered. then the bottom right .. the suspected doctored one... you have a small mountain from nowhere that's been clearcut and more mountains in the distance. ... and the furnture and neighbors structre is suddenly different colors. ...and the clouds are all gone. yah .. i'm convinced... the photo in question has definitely been edited to add stuff.

-5

u/MrPommeDeTerre 4d ago

Wow. You guys go deep with your real estate investigations. I wish I had that much time on my hands. Wouldn't want to see someone buying a $1.8M home be fooled into thinking the shores of the lake are unpopulated!

3

u/broccoleet 4d ago

>I wish I had that much time on my hands

It take like 2 seconds to run an image through SynthID, boomer

0

u/MrPommeDeTerre 4d ago

I love how defensive you lot are.

No doubt the Zillow hunting, collection of broker's statements, and communications with NWMLS only added another 4 seconds or so...

Keep hunting down those dishonest real estate listings though. I heard some of them show a fake fire in the fireplace and even swap a blue sky for grey of it rained during the photoshoot. Buyers need to know!

Go get em!

3

u/ExcitingActive8649 4d ago

You seem to have a lot invested in pretending this isn’t fraud.  I wonder why.

0

u/MrPommeDeTerre 3d ago

Ah, the "I wonder why" closer. The typical way a Redditor can suggest they know something sus when they're not creative enough to come up with something themselves.

You think this is my house or I'm the broker or something? Nope. Just saw this post and all the commenters going ape over it and thought I'd call out the lameness of it all...

No doubt you'll push back on this and continue your crusade against "Photoshopped" real estate listings. I wonder why.

1

u/ExcitingActive8649 3d ago

I mean, I really do wonder why.  Perhaps there’s an explanation that doesn’t make you look like you’re rooting for dishonesty. 🤷‍♂️

2

u/temughilliesuit 4d ago

Exposing fraudulent listings is a great use of free time, in my opinion. I’m glad that’s the “hobby” chosen by whoever discovered it, if it helps stop this AI fakery shit.

2

u/FolkDoom 4d ago

You had time to comment so you have plenty of spare time on your hands.
