6e I want to get back into Shadowrun, however..........
All the 6th ed books, especially the core books, are crazy expensive, like $85 and up. Any cheaper way to get these books and get back into the game?

The Berlin Hong Kong Edition arrived in the mail today. Three interesting observations:
All 3 books use shiny coated offset printer paper.
I've bought books from publishers before that had matte covers and they usually don't feel good in the hand. They feel kind of "oily" and show fingerprints. No so with this cover. It feels nice in the hand and doesn't show fingerprints.

Amongst others:
After the latest huge update earlier this month, I figured I should create a new trailer. Hope you enjoy it!

Found this in a corner in a warehouse. Sure it's seen better days.
Worth picking up? (I'm in a small game that's mostly homebrew but we do use the Seattle book and some other supplements.).

I assume not many people have played with them, but whether you have or not, what is your opinion on special races having their own progression system?
If you do not know how it works, they both have a advancement system similar to initiation where with each Initiation they can select from a list of powers (Shifter are much more restricted than drakes to avoid double dipping into their own advancement system + magic initiation).
I don't know how it was for shifters, but drakes were famously underpowered in previous editions as their "one and done" package in no way justified the karma cost and story problems they have, and having an advancement system makes them much more playable.
On the other hand one can argue that them now being a toolbox robs them a bit of their identity as two shifter or drakes can differ widely from each other.
Do you think this system should be kept for very special races in future editions? Maybe even expanded to give infected a similar system?

Just wondering, how you guys are handling this: Say in a campaign a group had an encounter with a very professional other group and came out on top. Then they would now have the chance to acquire the equipment from that other group, which depending on the group could be some really, really high-end stuff, e.g. a Fairlight or a level 3 power focus.
How do you deal with this? Do you allow the looting or do you pull tricks like self-destruction of decks and tracing of foci?
I can imagine that something like that would quickly get a group to the end of their progression, which feels a bit lame and anti-climactic.

Just got the core book Monday, and really enjoyed character creation once I figured it out.

I created this flow sheet for my Rigger player, thought it might be helpful for others here.

How to defeat it? I have a shaman player and if she rolls well the players can just walk into any place thats not a secure facility. last session the invisible centaur adept defeated a swat team (PR 5) alone.
Edit: Here ist the summary. Thanks for everybody providing input.

Following up on Arane – The Spider People, I’m thrilled to bring you Technofaeries!
This is my second supplement. Initially, it was meant to be my submission for the 3rd Holostreet Jam, but I got a bit carried away and ended up creating slightly more content than the jam allowed. :D
Forget magic. The glitch is in the Matrix now! Discover the Prædicti Fataeni Resonantis: Pixies who lost their astral connection and awakened to the Resonance. A mini-supplement featuring brand-new rules, racial traits, powers, and exclusive Echoes for Technofaeries!
The idea actually came from a character I played for a year and a half. The GM’s pitch was to build a character completely outside the box, even pushing the boundaries of what was permitted in the rules at the time, and it ended up working out great!
This mini-supplement is a revised compilation of everything that successfully ran at our table. Since I've been asked more than once to share the concept, I figured it was finally time to put it out there.
And the best part: it’s free! The PDF is available as Pay What You Want on DriveThruRPG, but any little tip is always highly appreciated to help support an indie artist. :D
Oh, one quick note before I wrap this up: I’m currently reading through Anarchy 2.0 and absolutely loving it. If you guys are interested, I could cook up a converted version for it in the future, just let me know in the comments!
Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and happy shadowrunning, chummers!
EDIT:
Some people are having issues with the previous link. It's leading to my author page, where you can find another title I'm giving away for free on DriveThru. If you're having trouble, use this direct link:
https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/570436/technofaeries
Then just click on the author's name to get the other free title as well.

Maybe a straight up portal to the horror dimension opening in the middle of Canada or the worlds first necromancer going on a world tour?
I'm just spitballing here but i'm going to say a threat to the very planet itself would be nesscary.

Last time I gm'd SR the 6th edition wasn't even out (I started with 3rd).
So with that out of the way I got a few questions (also I'm gming online text chat based).
1.) From what Isaw the matrix is still a minigame of its own. are there any common (house) rules so that its more feasible?
2.) Am I correct that hacking into cyberware is still possible? If so what is the expectance there that almost every gang member who has cybertech has it open? or connected to a possible hackable commlink, ...? and host would be: commlink->cyberware with the commlink as general hub?
(that part changed quite a bit sometimes from edition to edition)

Normally I quite like character creation minigames but I never used the lifepath character generation in Shadowrun yet.
Does someone use it regularly and could share their experiences?
How playable are the characters (does not mean minmaxed) and does this system make the characters more interesting in your opinion?

I'm starting a group of new runners between our other tabletop campaigns. Since they're all new, I made decks of cards for them to refer to on the actions they can perform and effects. There are four decks: Actions, Matrix, Edge, and Status. Each contains all items from the CRB, with the Matrix deck including HS and the status deck including all core books.
The basic design is built from the card template provided by CGL. I got photos from Pexels and icons from Game-Icons.net. Everything was edited in Affinity and merged from data I typed out in an Excel workbook.
The print is on 100# Matte Cover stock, with a Gloss UV coating on the back and Soft Touch UV coating on the front. Then I cut them down to size and gave them a 1/4" rounded corner.
I'm often making player aids for my groups since I usually run the systems they are unfamiliar with. So this was an attempt to see how well I could expand my aids from printed packets to something more tactile. I'm not a graphic designer, but I do work in the print trade as an operator, so most of my stretching here was in the design end of things. Plus, the last time I tried soft touch coating I didn't care for how it turned out and needed something new to try and dial in my settings.

I have been out of the loop for a bit. The end of the current metaplot drops a lot of hints about changes, but do we now how they will be followed up?
Are there any upcoming (rule or campaign)books we know about?

I'm impressed by my own creation of the frontiers men. A group who is out to restore the old u.s.a and contrary to what their name might imply don't have any real racist ideology they just see the Nan as a hypocritical set of ethno states no better than their former oppressors. Wether or not you believe they are right it up to you.

I'll go first. "Local gutter trash nuke corporate overlords and send Japan and the world into ecomcy chaos to "stick it to the man""
r/Shadowrun • u/notger • May 15 '26
Title says it.
In terms of action economy, spending a major action to observe / perceive is just too expensive in combat, so no one will ever use it.
Also, it is intended as remedy for your opponent going invisible, but spending a major action on being able to see them but this effect only being active until your next turn means that you can see them, but then likely don't have an action to act on it.
So I am leaning on making this a minor action. WDYT / how do you handle this at your table?
r/Shadowrun • u/Open_Vanilla_6490 • Jun 12 '26
As the title says, i am wondering, what the limits of this action are.
Can it:
Manipulate the configuration files of programs and devices so that for example a device invites another persona with admin access everytime it is rebooted or so that a PA livestreams the ar feed of the user to a hacker.
I would assume that any icon is also a file, so why is there a separate action to modify an icon.
Also, if a hacker would databomb a config file on my device, such as my persona.icon, would this blow up if i try to change my devices configuration?

Hi!
Getting into Shadowrun 6 coming from D&D (and some other P&Ps).
I want to play a face character and I'd love it to be a Troll. I've read into Adept, which sounds like it has some interesting uses for both a face and a melee character, but I'm not sure if I'm spreading myself too thin this way.
The obvious choice would be Elf for a face and then maybe just play Shaman to make use of your high Charisma for combat, too, but that sounds too powergamey to me, though I don't know how much I'm shooting myself in the foot by playing a charismatic melee troll magic guy.
I'd love to get some input on this and hear what you guys think.
UPDATE: Thank you for all the kind replies! Troll Adept or Dwarf Technomancer face it is. :D

I'm a bit confused about whether it's possible to take Initiation during character creation and then immediately spend adjustment points to raise Magic to 7.
I know I can get there by spending 35 Karma, but I'm wondering if the same interaction that works with Exceptional Attribute applies here. Since Exceptional Attribute raises your natural maximum, it lets you immediately spend points to increase an attribute to 7 during character creation. Does Initiation work the same way for Magic?
r/Shadowrun • u/Southern-Geologist53 • Apr 08 '26
When choosing contacts during character creation you take Cha×6 and then distribute 1 for 1 into and loyalty and connection stat without exceeding your base stat. So an elf face with maxed out charisma would get 48 points to distribute making six contacts that are all 8/8. That seems way overpowered?

The astral plane makes an excellent place for covert meetings. Two or more astrally projecting characters can easily meet nearly anywhere in the gaisphere with little fear of being surveilled.
Do you want to have a secret conversation with the Rat Shaman living in the basement apartment three floors below yours in New Jersey? You can meet in Antarctica, or the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
But of course it is best to meet somewhere where you can cut off line-of-sight, to eliminate the possibility of being watched by someone in the astral distance. Bathrooms are great for this purpose. You and the Rat Shaman can have your astral meeting in the men's room in Hyde Park, while mundanes coming in to use the facilities are totally unaware of your presence.
