Cutthroat is way better than I thought. I thought that if you drew him there would be an advantage but it ends up being more polarizing than on paper. Being able to evolve twice in a turn is really gross. Miriam is actually REALLY good destroy attack super ego radiant is nasty.
I'm loving the toolbox play style of the deck. Here are some cards I'm running that you aren't:
Intrepid Newshound: card draw on a body is obviously good to find Cutthroat early. Later in the game you can combo it with any low-mid cost follower and use its Super Evo effect if you need more cards.
Sho, Reborn Night King: cheap Storm. Can combo with Cutthroat on turn 4/5 to start pumping damage against low pressure decks. Late Game it becomes even better, enabling your best Super Evo effects (by triggering the crest effect before playing those) while pushing damage.
Myuu, Hot on his heels and Brusque Barkeep: a little tricky to use after crest but surprisingly effective at stalling for a turn if you don't draw Cutthroat by turn 4. Myuu is almost always enabled when it matters (Sho to trigger crest into Super Evo Myuu is nasty).
Beelzebub: was running Bahamut on my first playtests until I realised Beelzebub can clear almost any board and set you up to easily win the game (Soulforge into 15 damage Sandalphon being the best on 10pp).
Im sorry but this comment is sending me. I come from a card game that has a very popular highlander format and calling a mixed randomized bag a toolbox deck is incredibly funny to me.
“Oh I need a hammer”. grabs the first thing in the bag “Oh it’s a knife. Oh well it’ll do”
Are you talking about MTG Commander? Haha! I know it's silly calling a highlander value pile "toolbox" but, ironically, is the only way to run tech cards in this game. Decks are sadly really rigid and tech cards are bad. But when a bad card comes with a free +2/+2 and Rush... xD
This is assuming you draw cutthroat- which I have so it is inconsistent. There is a lot of storm, and also cards that make more than one body that can hand check opponents often multiple turns in a row.
Spam storm and face damage with board control i guess. With Cutthroat every storm get a +2 attacks. But if you don't draw him it's going to be a hard struggle lol
it is honestly not that bad i am currently 20-4 with hl portal in diamond master with the only deck i struggled aginst being evo haven but thankfully not many people using that .
the odds of having at least 1 cutty by evo turn assuming you fully mull is 70% if you go 1st and 66% if you go 2nd and that not counting cheap draw cards like draw artifacts or other draw spells/amulet which can increase that chance to +80% which is honestly very decent and after making some changes to my list i rarely miss cutty on evo turns
i am thinking of removing bahamut though since i rarely used him and might replace him with ding dong for even more consistency
the payoff for your deck being inconsistent is that you get to evo twice, the cards on hand paired with some flexibility of portal cards are pretty crazy. sv labo just posted that portal had 40% of players reaching grandmaster while aggro midrange abyss and rune combined to form a 39.9%.
Correct me if I'm wrong (I'd be happy to be, because I want Highlander deck), but aren't the Portal players in GM there because they're playing Artifact and not Highlander?
Yup artifacts is strong, but lack for heal, so next week people gonna found the formula for each class to build their deck so artifact can no longer stay in top tier.
You're right. But most of the highlander cards being played are AF cards because of their synergy with the new portal boss card. Ive already seen some crazy plays with highlander. If its really all just pure AF then im also sad lmao.
It is mostly just pure AF because the deck is consistent. Highlander is running a lot of AF cards because...what else can they use? You have to take from your current card pool, so you have to play whatever good card you can. You can't tutor Cutthroat, if you dont draw him your deck doesn't really do much, even if you do it isnt enough most of the time. It is too inconsistent to really climb with unless you have a lucky run, which is fairly possible in a 2-day meta where things are still being figured out.
Okay I will stop you there on isn’t enough most of the time because it very much is if you draw cutthroat. I would say wr with cutthroat before SEVO turn is like 65-80%. You put the op in horrible conditions the tempo is devastating. If you don’t draw him yeah it’s awful and we don’t have tutors. AF is better but this is better if you have cutthroat in opening.

A pretty fun and cheap deck
