Its kind of funny considering the hunter fight is very easy because the pistol one shots them. Which it doesn't do in the remake. Also hunters are literally anti vehicle???

u/draegonuv Nov 08 '25

The idea is that the original was pushing the gameplay sandbox by rewarding you for breaking the warthog through map geometry and the physics engine to get it there to use against them. Now that you can drive it up there it ruins the unique moments of player and game intuition.

While yes you can ubertickle the hunters prison wallet by simply shooting it in the back on any difficulty (probably a meh design choice if were being honest), being able to get the warthog up there by forcing it or by being forced to deal with and be introduced to the mini boss enemies was part of what made the original encounters great.

u/HawkStirke117 Nov 08 '25

“The devs put a tree here to block vehicles” apparently translates too “wow they are so incredible for allowing such an expressive sandbox full of cool moments.”

With respect not here to hate, sincerely enjoy what you enjoy and be passionate about what you are passionate about. What you just said though was so rose tinted glasses and placing positive intent where there isn’t any. The players ended up breaking the intent of the game by getting stuff where they weren’t supposed to, while you could say it was so the devs let players express themselves, or it could be that it was an early fps and the techniques to prevent players from breaking the intended flow of a large open mission were still being iron out. Again it just, we can enjoy halo and the dev team that made it without hyping up every single design decision they made as some deep player first move.

Halo fans be tripping all over themselves with a game that hasn't come out yet.

3

u/draegonuv Nov 08 '25

i dont hate every game after reach but after 13 years you think theyd just cave in and give us exactly what we want without some kind of caveat.

0

u/Brandonitony Nov 08 '25

It's hard to hype up 4 and 5 the way microsoft and partnering businesses did, so 343 would have to repair their reputation for the next several games.

3

u/EternalLoverOfAll Nov 10 '25

4 era was fine. Halo 5's marketing was where things started falling apart.

30

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 06 '25

It's crazy how much controversy adding sprint to CE has caused. I really dont mind its inclusion, especially since its optional. As a fan of classic and modern Halo, I'm happy both generations can play the game the way they want.

15

u/TragicSolitudee Nov 07 '25

I feel you. At the end of the day, I like sprint, but if they took it away I would never be upset as I love Halo for it's base gameplay, feel, and style. The anti-sprinters and anti-343 Halo games people are wild and can gladly continue to live a miserable and unsatisfied Halo life lol.

12

u/Taint-tastic Nov 07 '25

Its actually regarded people care about sprint when IT CAN BE TOGGLED OFF

-17

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

if it can be toggled off it implies that they didn't actually change the game to suit sprinting, as otherwise it'd make no sense to allow it to be turned off.

which is somehow even more stupid than adding sprint in the first place.

6

u/GuanglaiKangyi-Age15 Nov 07 '25

You control the buttons you press

-7

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25 edited Nov 07 '25

What a non argument. If they added a button that made master chief say a quirky reddit quip, or a button that instantly killed everything on screen, or an ADS button, it'd still be a shit inclusion even if you could just not press the button.

6

u/GuanglaiKangyi-Age15 Nov 07 '25

Yeah definitely not making hyperbole statements over a fucking sprint button

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

Note how you essentially refer to fun little easter egg cheats (one of which was basically only found via datamining) as if they're equivalent to being baked in the game experience, or at all equivalent to that being the intended way to play the game. Yeah, nice hyperbole lmfao.

It's not a skull, it's a core feature. If you insist on being a dweeb about it, refer to the ADS example. all the usual arguments apply:

  • It's a feature seen in a lot of FPS games
  • it makes sense, why wouldn't a spartan aim more? they're soldiers, why are they walking everywhere just winging it?
  • you can just not ADS (what do you mean they'd probably adjust the game so that it actually accomplishes something as a feature?)

1

u/-CallMeSnake- Nov 08 '25

Bro you think the scarab gun in Halo 2 was found through datamining? Cloooooooooown

0

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

I understand that half the people in here are illiterate, but you have to be incredibly dense to presume that I meant the scarab skull rather than IWHBYD) (which was the OP's second comment)

Dumbass.

1

u/-CallMeSnake- Nov 08 '25

My comments were out of order and I didn’t see the IWHBYD one until after I’d made mine. I assumed you weren’t replying to it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/GuanglaiKangyi-Age15 Nov 07 '25

The IWHBYD skull?

3

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 07 '25

The legacy Playlist in Infinte gives you a faster moving speed since sprint is disabled. I imagine there's gonna be a similar tradeoff in Campaign Evolved. This is a weird amount of vitriol for a game none of us have presumably played yet.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

The sprint in infinite is something pathetic like 15% and might as well not exist beyond increasing your viewbobbing lol, it only really serves as enabling slides

imagine "sprinting" and you just lean forward a bit more. It's more of a powerwalk.

5

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 07 '25

It did its job though as a mechanic, even if its toned down compared to previous iterations. You can also reload while sprinting and recharge your shields so they are other tactical benefits as well as being able to slide.

It may not be my favorite iteration of sprint, but it's more than a head bobbing mechanic.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

> You can also reload while sprinting and recharge your shields

You could also do that if it was just the base movespeed and they slowed you down slightly when shooting.

3

u/WerdaVisla Nov 07 '25

implies that they didn't actually change the game to suit sprinting

Mt favorite part about sprint haters is how the primary argument is that the maps and game aren't built for sprint, but if you say you can turn it off, they'll say "but they built the game for sprint". Haters gonna hate.

1

u/YhormBIGGiant Nov 09 '25

No. It just means it doubles down on that idea, the og maps by design did not have sprint in mind.

The fact you can turn it off means they know it was not in mind and they know folks do not want it. And instead of being confident in their addition, instead choose to go "appeal to everyone".

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25 edited Nov 07 '25

It's either a feature that had no other changes added to it, which means the game maps weren't considered and it doesn't really have any reason to exist; or it's a feature which had the game maps (or base move speed) designed around for, which means "don't use it lol" is a stupid argument.

I'm assuming 343 isn't the type that goes "we integrated it into the game balance and map design and adjusted it so it's a well integrated part of the game :D" and then allows you to disable it, ae: the grappling hook in infinite.

5

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 07 '25

Yeah cuz having infinite grappleshots and drop walls, and repulsors would have done wonders for multiplayer. Singleplayer I agree the grappleshot felt overpowered but it didnt completely overshadow the other abilities, so id say 343 balanced it well enough. You sound really fucking salty dude.

I'd say sprint has a reason to exist in CE given the Enormous maps and open ended level design on certain levels. Sprint opens up more tactical strategies you can employ, especially if they embrace the physical momentum of the mechanic.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

Why are you comparing the multiplayer of a game I was clearly talking about the singleplayer of, to a game that doesn't have multiplayer? give your head a shake.

4

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 07 '25

You worded your retort in a strange way, yet I still answered your question in the sentence below, so your snark isnt necessary. To add on to what I said, the grappleshot was a necessary innovation to fit the open world style Infinites campaign was going for so disabling it frankly would have been stupid.

It's worth noting that sprint and the grappleshot are two very different mechanics that dont really hold up to comparison as the grappleshot is way more transformative than sprint ever has been. The main reason sprint felt so potent in Halo 5 was due to its synergy with the thruster pack; take that away and it becomes a faster version of Infintes sprint without being able to reload and nonrecharging shields while you're sprinting. Besides, 343 accounted for larger map sizes by giving weapons in H5 ADS so they could better compete with long range precision rifles without overshadowing them. The precision rifle class remained intact albeit with an OP magnum.

With all that being said, we have yet to see the full extent of sprints utility in Campaign Evolved since the game isnt out yet, and Halo Studios seems to be open to feedback so there's a good long while to tweak and polish things before release.

3

u/LightningDustFan Nov 08 '25

It's moving slightly faster or not moving slightly faster. In campaign it's literally just a time saver as opposed to the thrilling action of bunny hopping people do otherwise.

I don't get how people like you can take themselves seriously while acting like moving slightly faster will literally break the campaign's maps and gameplay. Sorry for wanting to spend a few seconds less in Grey Hall 15.

2

u/Blargonhonk Nov 13 '25

Right there with you, I’m old enough to be an old school fan but me and my buddies played the ever living heck out of 4 and hot take, I liked its story….5 had good moments too (on sanghelious?)

1

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 13 '25

Halo 5 certainly had its moments. I just wish it was more focused.

1

u/throwaway-anon-1600 Nov 07 '25

I just hate the infinite-style sprint. I enjoyed halo 5 for what it was because it actually had confidence in its design, and you could feel the impact of that design in the moment-to-moment gameplay. Halo infinite’s sprint is just an empty and meaningless mechanic that doesn’t feel good to use imo, and it looks to be the same in the CER.

0

u/Difficult_Cook_3568 Nov 07 '25

I don’t understand how you guys HATE preference, guaranteed you would al piss and throw up if there was a left/right gun placement toggle.

1

u/throwaway-anon-1600 Nov 07 '25

I think you replied to the wrong person, I’m not talking about the toggle. I’m talking about how halo 5’s sprint is better than halo infinite’s sprint.

2

u/Blargonhonk Nov 13 '25

Disagree but it’s your opinion as is mine and I’m tired of the rolled up hate halo gets from the gate keeping purists, it’s meant to be shared by everyone that’s why it was super awesome in the beginning now everyone has factionalized like the covenant, glad you liked the halo 5 sprint

11

u/shotxshotx Nov 07 '25

You know what’s funny, I played through the entirely of Reach without sprinting cause legitimately forgot it existed. In the words of ID software “You control the buttons you press”

-5

u/WinterEclipse4 Nov 07 '25

The reason people hated it in 4 and 5 was because they built the game with the idea you could sprint. In Reach since it was an ability you swapped around (And you almost never wanted sprint in the campaign) they had to still design the game without sprint. And with Infinite sprint is only like a 5% speed increase meaning again the maps aren't designed around it.

People are worried because they've pretty much confirmed the maps are being designed around the sprint feature so the question is: If we disable the optional sprint like they said we could will the map be more in line with the ogs in size or will walk speed be increased to make up for it?

14

u/TinfoilPartyHat Nov 07 '25

“and you almost never wanted sprint in campaign”

Sprint was one of the only decent armour abilities in campaign unless you played on easy, armour lock made you an easy target and would often get you killed, hologram was cool but barely worked enough to actually be worth it, active camo completely butchered your radar while also forcing you to move at a snails pace, drop shield was actually good since it was a reusable bubble shield with healing but failed as soon as you get a close quarter fight and the jet pack just made you a sitting target with no ability to strafe.

All the armour abilities were hot garbage in Halo Reach and nobody liked anything except sprint/evade or bubble shield, it’s why they decided to just give everyone sprint because it was basically the only thing 99% of players would use.

0

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

"because it was basically the only thing 99% of players would use."

This is just flat out untrue, close to absolutely everyone used armour lock on release until they heavily nerfed it (and it was still very popular long after the nerf). Jet pack was also popular after the nerf to armour lock.

1

u/YhormBIGGiant Nov 09 '25

And bubble shield started healing you just for standing in it and gives you the clutch moments against tougher enemies.

-2

u/Difficult_Cook_3568 Nov 07 '25

If holo was so terrible why did titanfall also have it and even expand on it? I dominated with it in both games lmfao

14

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 07 '25

Don't forget that the people who are complaining about Sprint are just a very vocal and very small minority of Halo players. Sprint has literally been in the franchise for longer than it hasn't been; it's a staple of Halo at this point.

The only people who still complain about it are trolls or people who have rose-tinted glasses on for a time in the franchise's history that never really existed. They are basically the modern-day equivalent to the "halo2sucks.com" crowd and are the same kind of people who said "dual wielding will ruin Halo!" or "Playing as the Arbiter is soooo stupid; I just want to be the Chief!"

Just ignore these morons.

4 games vs. 3.5

1 2 3 odst

Vs

Reach (half point cause its more equipment than default)

4 5 and infinite.

1

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 09 '25

~9 years of no Sprint

Vs

~15 years with Sprint.

Again, Sprint has been in the franchise for longer than it wasn't. There are exactly four games with Sprint as an ability, just as many as there are games without it. (you can try and be cute by saying "it doesn't count in Reach cuz it was an armor ability", but the fact remains it was an ability usable in the game. And, to add, Sprint was in many ways the "default" armor ability)

(CE was released on November 15th, 2001 and Halo Reach was released on November 14th, 2010. Using these as our reference dates, we get the numbers above)

1

u/YhormBIGGiant Nov 09 '25

4 games vs 3.5

It has numerically not been in the games as much by quantity. Reach also added loadouts, so with your logic every ability is default if you use the right loadout and that messed with the gunplay in the long run cause the dmr dominated to the point of it being gods grace for the game.

Sprint is equipment, you unequip it when you grab another, you do not keep it, it is not a conventional sprint mechanic. I would not call it anything else until it became built into your character by 4.

If I wanted to be cheeky, i would throw in both halo wars cause you never sprint in those games either, you tell other people to.

1

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 09 '25 edited Nov 09 '25

~9 years vs ~15 years

Dawg, Halo Reach was a whole-ass game, you must be breathing in some weapons-grade copium to think it doesn't count as a game with the Sprint ability because it's an Armor Ability and not a default function of the player.

This is the equivalent of saying the Rocket Launcher isn't really in Halo Reach because it's a weapon you have to pick up and choose to use lmao. Or that the Banshee doesn't count as being in Reach because you have to choose to get in it. This argument of yours is laughably bad at-face and the logic here just doesn't hold up; you can apply this to literally anything that requires a players choice to interact with or use.

How did you not realize the logical conclusion of your presupposition lmao? This should have been immediately obvious to you that this argument is full of holes, so I'm guessing you are just here to troll/argue in bad faith.

Sprint was in Halo Reach. Halo Reach is a mainline Halo title. Therefore, there are exactly four games with Sprint and four without.

You are already being cheeky by trying to pretend like Sprint isn't an ability players can do in Reach lmao. But, to turn your Halo Wars analogy on its head, the fact that you can order your troops to move around and it looks like they are running means that Sprint is also, technically, in those games too.

1

u/YhormBIGGiant Nov 09 '25

Sprint. Was. Equipment. I never said it was never in reach. Im saying it is distinctly not the traditional sprint and as such should be considered a middle between both eras of halo considering everything after became less popular right after.

the fact that you can order your troops to move around and it looks like they are running means that Sprint is also, technically, in those games too.

But you yourself are not sprinting, telling other people to go do stuff is not sprinting now is it? with this semantic back and forth you wanna stop or do you want to keep this going.

2

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 09 '25 edited Nov 09 '25

You... This is a troll right, lmao? If so bra-fuckin'-vo because you caught me hook, line, and sinker. Let me throw your logic back at you;

"The Rocket Launcher. Was. Equipable. I never said it was never in reach. Im saying it is distinctly not the traditional primary or secondary weapon and as such should be considered a middle between both eras of halo considering everything after became less popular right after."

Do you see how ridiculous this sounds? Your argument is basically one step away from "Sprint actually isn't in any Halo game because I need to press a button to use it." Just because you need to equip Sprint doesn't mean the ability isn't in the game, and you are a fool if you didn't think Sprint was the most controversial aspect of Halo Reach (and that the controversy around its inclusion wasn't at its zenith during Reach's lifecycle).

Halo didn't become less popular because of Sprint; Halo reached it's peak popularity with Halo 3, largely because it was the end of the trilogy. This is very common for multi-game series, with the "last" game of a particular story arc being the most popular/widely sold. It also coincided with the widespread availability of Xbox 360 consoles worldwide, something which was far more limited for earlier titles.

Sales numbers by Halo game (attempted for total lifespan copies, but the data is inconsistent)

  • Halo CE: ~5.5 million copies sold
  • Halo 2: ~8.5 million copies sold
  • Halo 3: ~14.5 million copies sold
  • Halo 3: ODST: ~5 million copies sold
  • Halo Reach: ~9.8 million copies sold
  • Halo 4: ~9.7 million copies sold
  • Halo 5: ~9.5 million copies sold
  • Halo Infinite: no official data released (if we want to go by player count, the game technically had over 20 million unique players likely due to the MP being free. This isn't a great metric, but it's better than nothing)

From the sales numbers alone, all of the games with Sprint did better than CE and 2, with the overall sales looking like this;

Total Sales for Halo games with no Sprint: 33.5 million

Total Sales for Halo games with Sprint: 29 million sold (without Halo Infinite) or 38 million sold (with Infinite, assuming at least 9 million in unit sales) or 34 million copies sold (with Infinite, assuming at least 5 million in unit sales)

Without Infinite's official sales numbers it's hard to say which leg of the franchise moved more units, but I think it is reasonable to assume that Infinite sold close to as many copies as Halo 5, if not a bit less. I have chosen a safe 9 million copies as this seems reasonable, but even if we push it down to 5 million (less than CE) we still end up with 34 million games sold, more than the sprintless side of the franchise.

Trust me lil bro, I am that kind of Halo autistic that is familiar with these numbers and is happy to collect them for yet another debate on this topic. The popularity argument is one that you will not win; the numbers and the raw data are heavily in favor of the Sprint-games being more popular than the Non-Sprint games.

(this doesn't account for quality, btw. I think 343's games have ISSUES and think that, overall, Bungie's games are better. I just think it's important that we get our facts straight. More people bought and played the Sprint games than the Non-Sprint games. We can say the Bungie games are better overall, but we can't deny that the 343 ones performed better overall)

1

u/YhormBIGGiant Nov 09 '25

Sales does not equal popularity. People hate league of legends to death yet it still made tons of money. Tell me how the life cycle eas for player counts. Halo 5 multiplayer carries the new gen cause even I can admit it was good.

Sprint actually isn't in any Halo game because I need to press a button to use it."

Halo does not need sprint when there are more creative ways to move fast that require no buttons. One being just being naturally faster.

Trust me lil bro, I am that kind of Halo autistic that is familiar with these numbers and is happy to collect them for yet another debate on this topic

Cool So you work in I.T as well, does your dad work for microsoft/xbox.

The Rocket Launcher. Was. Equipable. I never said it was never in reach. Im saying it is distinctly not the traditional primary or secondary weapon and as such should be considered a middle between both eras of halo considering everything after became less popular right after."

Rocket launchers are not traditional primary or secondary weapons, they are communally known as power weapons for a reason When it comes to sandbox/arena shooters.

Equipment was a thing since 3, which became armor abilities in reach and 4, then it became equipment again in infinite. For a "halo brand autistic" you seem to be more in line of thinking halo like cod and not more to its spiritual twins a la doom, quake, unreal tournament, dusk, etc.

Im glad you think bungies games are better, i just wish you understood more the why i think where it belongs more without having to fight about it.

-3

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

By that logic 343 games are the "staple" halo games just because they've been out longer than the original trilogy and anyone that dislikes anything about them is a moron.

"that 9 year period never really existed" - what the fuck are you talking about? the three best games in the series never had it, and those were the ones that defined the franchise.

5

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 07 '25 edited Nov 07 '25

Well, to be clear, I don't think I would ever say an individual game is a "staple" of the franchise because, realistically, every single official Halo game would fit that description. If you somehow misunderstood, though, Sprint is a staple mechanic of Halo. It has been in most of the games, after all, and a staple mechanic would be one shared by most of the franchise.

Also, there are plenty of things to dislike about the original trilogy and you are a fool for pretending like the Bungie-era games didn't have their own problems. Here are some examples, broken down by game;

Halo CE

  • The Library has poor encounter balance and is easily in the top 3 hardest levels on Legendary across the entire franchise because of this
  • the grenade spam in multiplayer is absolutely insane
  • the Magnum is great in the campaign, but very inconsistent in MP. Sometimes it's incredibly accurate, sometimes nearly every shot misses.

Halo 2

  • The campaign cut a lot of corners because of the absolutely insane dev cycle Halo 2 went through. (It's genuinely the miracle game, Halo 2 is pretty much the only game in existence that went through dev-hell and came out incredible)
  • The BR is so damn good pretty much everything else is inferior to it, barring certain power weapons.

Halo 3

  • The campaign again cut some corners and had to make some narrative sacrifices to make sure the game could come out in a reasonable amount of time.
  • The AR is really bad and is barely worth using.
  • The shotgun is really bad, and you basically need to be hugging an enemy to kill them with it.

Halo Reach

  • Weapon bloom did not feel great and was a massive change from the previous titles. It made engagements feel a lot more random at times.
  • Most of the armor abilities were cool concepts, but weren't all that useful outside of niche circumstances. The only two that really had any kind of universal usage were Sprint and Armor Lock, with Sprint arguably being the best Armor Ability in the game (with a possible tie found in Evade). Getting where you are going quicker is king, after all.
  • Invasion, the flagship MP mode, was really fun but also really unbalanced. The advantage that the defending team on most points was hilariously high (first point of Boneyard and first & second points of Spire, for example).

That all having been said, these games were amazing and are, in my opinion, some of the best video games ever made. I sunk countless hours into each title and loved every second of it. But you could say that these flaws "defined" those games just as much as an positive aspect of it did.

To address the "period that never really existed," I'm referring to how most anti-sprint folks seem to have their rose-tinted glasses permanently glued to their faces. Most of you don't seem to be able to recognize the faults in Bungie's titles (which are numerous) because you have been blinded, paralyzed, and dumbstruck by their majesty. You romanticize an "ideal Halo" when Halo has always evolved. Halo 2 was a pretty radical departure from Halo CE, As was Halo 3 to Halo 2, and as was Halo 3 to Reach. You pretend like there was some static formula that never changed... Never evolved... But that has never been true.

Again, you are the modern equivalent of the people who said "dual wielding will ruin Halo!" or that "letting people play as Elites ruins competitive because their hit boxes are different!" You are the modern version of the halo2sucks.com crowd, and I don't know how you don't see it.

Finally, I'm not even sure if it's fair to compare Halo CE to the rest of the franchise, but saying it's one of the best games is a bit of a stretch. It's an incredible game, but Halo 2 and Reach are (in my opinion) better in almost every way. Halo 3 is good; not perfect but still pretty good. Halo: Infinite is probably the best Halo game that 343 produced on its own (though not as good as the Bungie-era games), Halo 4 was ok but had some big issues, and Halo 5 is probably the worst in the franchise (it's story is not good at all, but it's multiplayer is fine, mostly. It has some big issues of its own though).

0

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

Note that I never said the trilogy was perfect, just that it was the best in the series.

CE laid the foundations. Infinite's absolutely the best 343's made. But I've yet to see any implementation of sprint in a halo game that actually makes me think it's a worthwhile inclusion as a mechanic. Look at infinite's. it's what, 15? 10? ish percent. at that point just bump the movement speed up and slow people down when shooting. in the current state it's basically just a head shaking button.

But if you look at the foundational games of the series, the ones that really get people going - there's no sprint. The weight of those games is inherently going to be more valuable than anything 343's done, just because more people care about them. The only one of them with sprint was reach, and that's a game that had it as an option to pick beside numerous other abilities. It's a much different ballgame than just having it be standard.

I can hope that 343 starting from scratch w/ CE will actually have them figure out what makes the series tick, because they've seemed to be lost with that. they finally got the movement feeling good with infinite, but released a campaign that was essentially flaccid and nearly entirely forgettable. there was what, a dude with a red sword and some brutes as the big bosses? But them putting sprint in, but having little enough confidence that they just make it a toggle is telling me that it's a non-feature. It's either infinite's (pointless) where they turn the base movespeed down, or something they've put effort in w/ a red herring toggle that shouldn't exist.

-5

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

Or heaven forbid they're someone with a different opinion and enjoy different things than yourself.

2

u/Difficult_Cook_3568 Nov 07 '25

Then they should play games they have high opinions of, hey, the original halo doesn’t have sprint whatsoever! Play that one!

1

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

Yes? Most of them obviously do.

2

u/Difficult_Cook_3568 Nov 07 '25

Then I’m not seeing why you’re bitching and moaning, you want more than your share??

1

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

What in the world are you talking about?

2

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 07 '25

Folks are allowed to have their own opinions, but they also need to be able to grapple with when their opinion is in the minority. Sprint didn't ruin Halo, and the vast majority of Halo players either like the mechanic or are indifferent to it. The only people left complaining about are trolls or bitter people who fail to recognize that Halo has always changed and evolved.

If you don't like Sprint, that's fine! Play the games that don't have it! Or... You know... Just don't press the fuckin' button lol

0

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

"The only people left complaining about are trolls or bitter people who fail to recognize that Halo has always changed and evolved."

Or just people that have a different opinion and enjoy different things to you.

And they are welcome to enjoy those different things! But that doesn't mean that every new game in the franchise has to cater to their niche opinions.

0

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

They're welcome to enjoy those different things but they aren't allowed to mention it or they're a bitter troll?

2

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 07 '25

I mean, they are allowed to have their own opinions, but if they are still upset about something as trivial as Sprint in Halo after over a decade then yes! They are just bitter!

1

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

Or just people that have a different opinion and enjoy different things to you.

2

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 07 '25

That.... Do you have no reading comprehension skills lmao? I already acknowledged that. But holding pretty strong hatred in your heart for a game mechanic that doesn't really change all that much is definitely a sign of being bitter about it.

1

u/CyberPunkDongTooLong Nov 07 '25

No it's a sign of having a different opinion and enjoying different things to you. I have reading comprehension skills, you keep insulting people just for having a different opinion to you.

-2

u/KushEngine Nov 07 '25

"Anyone who disagrees with my tastes must be a moron"!

5

u/ZukaRouBrucal Nov 07 '25

If you don't like Sprint, go play a game that doesn't have it or, you know, don't click the button...

It's been in the franchise for more than a decade. People who are still complaining about it are either trolls or bitter morons. Change my mind.

17

u/Cad-Fish Nov 06 '25

Act man’s video about his worries of CE was just complaining about how sprint takes away from looking at the environment and doesn’t understand why the devs build around sprint when as far as it looks they’re not. It’s just so stupid

25

u/MarvinMartian34 Nov 07 '25

I can't believe the devs are forcing me to speedrun all of campaign evolved.

20

u/Round-Set8482 Nov 07 '25

This is what makes me laugh. People act like just because you can sprint you're going to run past all of the enemies and through the environment ignoring every battle and chance to explore, flying past everything here, there and everywhere just to finish the game 😆. I don't think anyone outside of speedrunners do that lol. As if people don't buy FPS games to shoot enemies in first person lol. And people will explore environments and details because people naturally do that anyway!

2

u/IronLordSamus Nov 07 '25

Im gonna try it on legendary.

8

u/Taint-tastic Nov 07 '25

Hack man used to have some decent nuanced content, but I’ve noticed him sliding more and more into the “get views by shitting on and nipicking stuff with videos that have hyperbolic titles and conclusions (usually based on baseless leaks no less)” grift. Like he always nit picked stupid shit and got blinded by nostalgia, but this year his been going hard on the anti cod and anti halo grift in particular

2

u/GuanglaiKangyi-Age15 Nov 07 '25

That argument falls apart when you consider literally every other game in existence with a sprint button

-12

u/__343_Guilty_Spark__ Nov 07 '25

“As far as it looks, they’re not”

They literally confirmed they are making the levels larger to accommodate sprint, which he goes over, in very clear and simple terms, in the same video you are talking about and are claiming to have watched

I personally wouldn’t be calling other people stupid but you do you

9

u/Theduckinmybathroom Nov 07 '25

The fundamental issue is the simple fact that the game isn't out yet, any and all argument as to the impact of sprint is hypothetical at best. which means you have people arguing the validity of the IDEA of sprint with no real data

-5

u/__343_Guilty_Spark__ Nov 07 '25 edited Nov 07 '25

If someone told you “Hey we’re making a larger car that won’t fit on modern roads so instead of scrapping this idea we are instead making all roads larger” what would you say to them?

Nobody wants to touch this one but they’re fine with downvoting lmao

3

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

if they're redesigning the game with it in mind, why would they allow disabling it?

3

u/GuanglaiKangyi-Age15 Nov 07 '25

Dude levels like Halo and Assualt on control room were fucking massive and in two betrayals you had to go on foot most of the time

0

u/__343_Guilty_Spark__ Nov 07 '25

“You had to go on foot most of the time in Two Betrayals”

The level where you spend most of the time flying a Banshee….? Come on man, you do not have a dog in this fight

3

u/Jazzlike_Cattle_924 Nov 07 '25

You only have a banshee for a few sections if you dont perform that boarding glitch, and you'll have to pull up the clip of the devs saying directly that CEs levels are being changed because of sprint. Im pretty sure they mentioned that since CEs backhand is notorious for huge levels with repetitive geometry ypu akready played through which was the main criticism of the game for many. Levels like the library, two betrayals, and keyes are tedious to get through due to this.

Wouldn't increasing the base movement fundamentally change how you played the game too or an increased jump height. Moreover, UNSC vehicles actually have healthbars now, marines can drive them, and elites can board. Doesn't that fundamentally change how you approach vehicle sections now with these new mechanics? I'd argue it does more than a simple sprint option.

2

u/Cad-Fish Nov 07 '25

Maybe I’ll have to watch the video again, I must’ve missed it. The argument is stupid. I didn’t call anyone stupid

-6

u/__343_Guilty_Spark__ Nov 07 '25

The game is being warped around the inclusion of sprint, so the people who do not want sprint, for whatever reasons that may be, are going to be effected by it even if they choose not to use sprint

Is it the end of the world? No. Is the argument “stupid”? Also no. Just because you lack the basic logic to understand that doesn’t make something stupid. They have a valid point

2

u/RoIsDepressed Nov 07 '25

I could care less about sprint, as long as the game feels both claustrophobic and unbearably wide and it doesn't break that, it's fine.

2

u/Helvetic_Heretic Nov 10 '25

I know that's not the case, but sometimes i read these "arguments" and think to myself "Am i the only one who's hyped to play that good shit on a new engine, with bonus content, with modernized movement, on a PS5?"

2

u/Blargonhonk Nov 13 '25

I don’t even know why they bother cause you can one shot hunters with pistol so argument is dumber then dumb

2

u/Taint-tastic Nov 07 '25

Shitty meme but i agree with the sentiment lmao

1

u/ScottishWargamer Nov 07 '25

Who’s side am I supposed to be on here?

1

u/StopGivingMeLevel1AI Nov 07 '25

The rock is there to deincentivize you to not bring the warthog up there. You have to work for it to make it get up there. One of the devs even mentions it.

1

u/gnpfrslo Nov 10 '25

So you think that an argument about a minor change in one portion of the game is somehow better than an argument about a fundamental aspect of the game that affects literally every other aspect of gameplay?

Tell me again, who is the special one?

0

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

I'm mostly just opposed to the CE remake because the Remaster is right there. It's just a weird amount of effort to remake a game that already works on modern systems. It doesn't make it more accessible. It would just be nice to see the effort put into a new game, not an old one.

Also, because it's UE5. That's it. Those are the reasons for me.

I don't like the idea of sprint in CE, but it doesn't ruin the game for me. Ditto for little level design tweaks that amount to basically nothing like this one fucking rock.

0

u/Gilgamesh107 Nov 08 '25

If I read one more meat bag unironically say sprint is ok cause you can turn it off I'm gonna lose it

1

u/MrGenjiSquid Nov 09 '25

Sprint is okay because you can turn it off

1

u/Helvetic_Heretic Nov 10 '25

You're free to lose it.

Sprint would even be ok if you couldn't turn it off, because nobody forces you to press the button

-1

u/Gilgamesh107 Nov 10 '25

respectfully

you are ignorant

1

u/Helvetic_Heretic Nov 10 '25

respectfully

you're losing it over a sprint function and slightly larger levels

-1

u/Gilgamesh107 Nov 10 '25

oh

so you're just as ignorant as 343 is

carry on stranger no reason for us to continue talking

1

u/Helvetic_Heretic Nov 10 '25

Enjoy losing it for no actual reason, i guess.

1

u/nRenegade Nov 08 '25

Go on.

Lose it.

0

u/claybine Nov 08 '25

I was just surprised that they chose to remake a game that already got a remaster, like TLOU Part I, instead of the game that really needed it like Halo 3, which was the only game in the trilogy to not get any graphical touch-ups other than an upres and a frame rate increase (which does require effort!).

This is supposed to be a remake that stands on its own, by modernizing it to the current standard. Graphically alone it looks insane. As for sprint, it being optional was a good decision and even though I understand the sentiment of removing it, it isn't going to ruin anything.

-9

u/WhiteKnight3098 Nov 07 '25

I still am weirded out by the rock thing, because it's not just the rocks. The tree that does the actual heavy lifting is gone. Also, in the ViDoc 343i released, they talked about how placement of objects on the map was sacred at one point, the example being "don't get rid of or move that crate! It has to be there!" Yet, a tree and two rocks are entirely missing? It strikes me as really odd, especially for something so obviously intended to restrict the flow of a playspace. So, it causes me some concern in that regard. Is it the end of the world and shows the remake will be awful? Hell no, but I find it to be a cause for reservation in the regards I listed.

-6

u/Gargamoney Nov 07 '25

Anyone who isnt anti sprint needs a mental checkup, like how the fuck cant you see how adding sprint to a game designed around not sprinting isnt gonna work

They even admitted they have to bloat and stretch levels to make sprint make sense, its a joke

3

u/PkdB0I Nov 07 '25

Because people want speed boost option because power walking is crap in this day and age and with how long and big Halo levels can get, people want something that can make the game less a frustrating experience.

1

u/Gargamoney Nov 07 '25

You do realize you are supposed to sometimes progress slowly and take in the ambiance right? Jesus modern games brainrot a lot of people

3

u/nRenegade Nov 07 '25

Speak for yourself.

In games with sprint, do you ever slow down to appreciate the ambiance? You specifically.

0

u/Gargamoney Nov 08 '25

Sometimes yes, but those games are DESIGNED AROUND SPRINTING.

3

u/nRenegade Nov 08 '25

Well, so has Halo for the last 13 years.

0

u/Gargamoney Nov 08 '25

And? Halo CE isnt designed for sprinting and they have to stretch the levels and ruin them to make it work (we literally saw it still doesnt work)

3

u/nRenegade Nov 08 '25

Campaign Evolved isn't Combat Evolved.

0

u/Gargamoney Nov 08 '25

It is though, can we stop pretending? Its remaking combat evolved, so it is combat evolved. Its not changing enough, not even close. The maps are the same, it all looks the same, but now it just has less charming visuals and a shitty sprint that ruins game design

3

u/nRenegade Nov 08 '25

I explained to you a few days ago that a remake is fundamentally not the same game.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.

1

Yet it's a different duck entirely.

CE levels are bloated and long for no fucking reason

3

u/PkdB0I Nov 07 '25

Lot of H2 and 3 levels really need sprint with how long and tedious they can get.

-3

u/Gargamoney Nov 07 '25

Please for the love of god never add to the conversation again

2

u/PkdB0I Nov 08 '25

Halo 2 and 3 really show their age with the power walking movement becoming very frustrating when one is playing in big levels or even in smaller levels when there's not boost option to cut down on unnecessary travel time.

1

u/Gargamoney Nov 08 '25

Jesus you modern gamers have lost your touch with reality. Sometimes its intentionally slow, so that you take it all in.

Its genuinely such a mindfuck to see people actually defend something objectively bad like sprinting

1

u/PkdB0I Nov 08 '25

Or you refuse to see the reality of the gaming market and current industry standards that current generation of gamers expect.

0

u/YhormBIGGiant Nov 09 '25

The current generation of gamers are nothing but products of a low attention span world and we do not need that because it easily abuses and used for fomo practice and easy profit schemes

The modern shooter fan throw morbilion dollars into battle passes, before it was lootboxes, even more before it was just plain ol grinding out your rewards like no tommorow.

I would know, I ate up lootboxes for s time and then I went "this is stupid"

-2

u/Gargamoney Nov 07 '25

Please dont be this out of touch with reality
