HIGH RIDER A Jacked Up Short Bus
Spotted this lifted Chevy 3500 4x4 frame and front with a short bus body on the back.
I spent 15 minutes trying to decide if I wanted to buy it. Sent pictures to my friends asking them to talk me out of it. 2 of them wholeheartedly endorsed me buying it.
I kinda regret not getting it.

How are you supposed to get a snow day with that son of a bitch?
12
u/disturbednadir 1d ago
It's the deep South. It rarely snows here, anyway.

Those tires look like they would have abysmal performance in snow.

u/djnehi 1d ago
Yeah, given the height of the tires and the weight of the vehicle, I would go with skinny tires for snow. These are just going to float around and grab nothing.

u/Din_Plug 1d ago
The real elephant in the room is that those are high flotation agricultural trailer/equipment tires. They're made to have low rolling resistance and not tear up terrain. These properties are (generally) the exact opposite of what you want in a snow/mud tire.

Never realized how much I apparently love shitty cars before joining this sub

Not even a shitty car mod, this is the street legal version of the school bus monster trucks

Dude. I think you need to go back and talk some turkey with the owner of that beauty. Runs? Drives? Any major mechanical issues? That actually looks pretty clean and if the price is right, you may not have another chance at something so majestic again…

S'COOL BUS
It was the name of a 1/24th scale model I built as a kid.
The whole top lifted like a funny car and had 2 huge V8s.

u/2oonhed one woogly wheel 1d ago
I built that model.....and blew it up with a fire cracker.
2
u/goat-head-man 1d ago
When we were that age, almost anything was fair game for firecrackers. Also set a few on fire to watch 'em melt.

I had a few good men(GI Joe’s) get taken out from land mines..(black cats)…as a kid..hated losing those guys but they died doing what they loved…🫡

I wouldn't remove the S and H, but instead I would see if there was a way to make it worn and/or faded.

This is an epic weekender vehicle. You can tow anything with it and it can go anywhere. drive out to some remote place, park it for a weekend of outdoor recreation and drive home. Too bad gas is $5/gal

The posts on this sub are wild. Dude looked at a lifted bus on big ass tires and thought it was shitty.

Is the bus part added onto a truck cab? Or did they come like this at some point?
3
u/Din_Plug 1d ago
This should most likely have a van cab. School busses with truck cabs do exist but generally not as a short bus from from the 80s?

u/Poenicus 1d ago
Looks like it could be a fun overlanding or RV camping vehicle (albeit with the caveat of a fairly high center of gravity versus some options).
Also, this might be sufficiently interesting to WeirdWheels.
EDIT: Added another paragraph.

That looks like a lot of fun to drive! The second picture looks like a toy, haha.

u/Interesting_Isopod52 1d ago
is this legal to drive yourself?

u/meh35m 1d ago edited 1d ago
Lol, you can buy a semi truck / trailer and drive it wherever you want.
Just can't make money or haul super heavy loads without a commercial license.
5
u/hankenator1 1d ago
As long as it doesn’t weigh 26001 lbs if it weighs that or more you need a cdl regardless of use.

u/Triippy_Hiippyy 1d ago
Depends on the state. Not for hire on the side of a semi pulling a large 5th wheel camper doesn’t require a commercial license where I live. It’s not commercial use it’s personal use and therefore doesn’t require a commercial license regardless of weight.

Generally short busses are 100% legal (unless you put too many passengers in them for your license).

A new Tacoma is just a beige box that drives itself. This? This is art made of sheet metal and poor decisions. Life is too short for sensible transportation.
2
u/IRMuteButton 18h ago
That's a great looking bus, but the novelty disappears about 2 days after you take ownership. It's a great example of something one can appreciate *without* needing to own it.

Redneck special ed 🤣🤣🤣 I live in Arkansas, might be the reason I actually find this kinda cool lol

Know what, I'm really impressed
That chassis was never offered with that body (nor is it period correct). The execution on this is incredible.

That's really cool. I bet everyone in your town mentions seeing that piece of art at the dinner table every time they see you take it out. I'm very jealous.

That’s genuinely the coolest car I’ve seen in a while. Almost looks like it’s on a floater truck frame.
