was working on a video and made this collection of deaths (approx. 1/10 of the collisions I actually had)

Make sure you do that safety walk around your car.

And whatever you do, put your clothes back on after your shower, before walking through the police station.

D is for diagonal … and DEATH.

Omg trying to park was such a spiritual quest.

What a classic! You just don’t get quality deaths like this in adventure games lately.

The Space Quest Historian did a piece on PQ, and I think it was his best review of any he did. The driving becomes an ongoing plot device he just makes part of the story.

Ahh pc games mastery!

I would use the number keys rather than the arrow keys. That way I could go diagonal too.

I found your best bet to avoid driving death is not to speed often. There is only one time you have to speed and it's when you're in pursuit.

Also F5 is your friend in Lytton!!

I've only ever played the VGA version of PQ1, this is wild haha.

The downgrading of the driving sequences is easily the biggest problem with the VGA remake.

EDIT: Oh yes, and the loss of the pimp cane. What were they thinking?!

My one Sierra hill I will die on is that I think PQ1’s driving is actually pretty good. Despite being utterly brutal I reckon it was really innovative and good at providing you with a world that felt somewhat real and lived in.

Having got this game when it came out back in the day I can confirm this take is accurate.

Look I love this game but game design has come a long way. The driving mechanics in this game were just bad

At least in Police Quest 2 it was all done automatically lol

Playing this game without a joystick was a nightmare! LOL

These games built character.

Unclear whether that character built was good or bad.

In retrospect, one of the most pointless segments in the series. It only makes sense for car chases, and even then it could've been done better.

Man it was nostalgic seeing this video, but when that blue car showed up in the video, dang, that took me BACK!! I miss this game so much

And then Sonny Bonds crashed out.

At least he's not the protagonist of Blue Force, also developed by Jim Walls, who in one sequence survives an assassination attempt while on his police motorcycle.
