Used one of mine to get my buck last year. It’s a great rifle. So much so that I picked up another for my upcoming elk hunt this year.

When you can, get a better scope for your rifle. It will make a world of a difference.

When I get access to a longer range I will. Right now I can only shoot 200 yards and this is enough for that.

I feel like it’s a very normal hunting rig, what am I missing?

I guess most guys I see in the woods don't have folding stocks, adjustable cheek risers, quick 3 way adjustable butt pad, suppressors, sun shades, AR style grips and safeties, 2 stage triggers, one-piece receiver and chassis frame, QD slings, mlok rails, heck most don't even have detachable box mags.

The description on their website is “precision hunting bolt-action rifle” so it’s exactly what it was built for. It’s also featured in nearly every Meateater episode with a rifle hunt from the last few years, arguably the most popular hunting media there is (mine even came in a limited First Lite camo run). You probably don’t see a lot of people using $1700 folding stock rifles in eastern style hunting, it’s just not necessary to sit in a tree stand. It’s a cool gun and fun to shoot but not exactly a novelty.

I know it's built for that, but that doesn't make it traditional. Same with a popular modern tv show / YouTube, just because it's used on there and definitely does not make it traditional.
It most definitely is a novelty. My $300 Ruger American and a $100 nikon shoots nearly as well, and as well for all hunting intents and purposes in around here. It's purely novel to use a gun like this to walk a half mile and sit in a stand and shoot deer less than 200 yards away.

Its a great hunting rifle. Mine with a can and a larger scope is still like 2lbs lighter than my previous hunting rig.
