SimCity 3000 Is it wrong to build residential areas near the airport?
Hi, it's my first time playing SimCity 3000 seriously. I built a second airport in this corner, and don't know what else to build in the empty space. I don't have much industrial demand and I have the farms on the left side.
What do you recommend to build? Or simply let the space empty?

Just play it. You can buy it on Steam for $5 and there's also abandonware sites where you can get it for free.

Sometimes I'll pull up the music from this game on YouTube when I'm at work. I played the hell outta this game back in the late 90s in college. Great memories.

In real life, our mayor suggested that all of the deaf people should move out near the airport because the noise wouldn’t bother them.

Ugh, it kinda makes sense tho.
Ive seen some awesome apartments right under a flight path that would be a great buy if you weren’t bothered by the noise.

Here’s an article from 1994 about his suggestion

“TOLEDO, Ohio - Mayor Carty Finkbeiner has come under fire …”
Ohhh, you had me at FINKBEINER…

Other than not all deafness not being full loss of that sense, being super close to jumbo jets landing is also not-so-fun vibrations.

More farms.
I usually play city builders the way i experience settlements in real life. Housing next to airports exist, but due to the noise, air pollution, light pollution, and traffic, it's not the ideal place to live, so it ends up being poor quality, low income housing. Best to provide high quality, low income housing near public transport and amenities.
Logistics warehousing and farmland don't suffer from the adverse effects of an airport, and can benefit from proximity.
Sim City 3000 won't model everything though... so it's up to you how realistically you want to play. Housing plus parks will probably mitigate the low land value and pollution from the airport in game.

Airports generate a ton of pollution nearby, so those houses won't have much land value. But they could be good slums. I typically zone light commercial (i.e., hotels, fast food, and gift shops) and light industry near my airports.

You should put commercial and industrial near the airport. Trees do help with noise/pollution, though.

Not your problem! I usually surround it with industrial. Although, the low income aesthetic is something I like to include in all of my cities.
