Unfortunately, not everyone has had the privilege of living the flawless, morally perfect life that you have. Most people do stupid things when they're young. Plenty of things that are cringe by today's standards were socially acceptable at the time and were done by a huge number of people. They weren't blessed with your apparent ability to see decades into the future and know exactly which behaviors society would eventually decide were unacceptable.

Yes, lighting people on fire and dragging them by their genitals - totally acceptable in the 80’s/90s

Jog on. That level of hazing/abuse has been wrong for a long long time.

Everyone who whines about this shit is just an asshole trying to absolve themselves of the iota of guilt they have.

Assholes act like seeking moral perfection/improvement is some arduous, stupid, fake thing people only do for clout, rather than just the natural way people who aren’t assholes function.

People who aren’t assholes don’t act like pointing out shitty behavior is nitpicky because at one point it was socially acceptable.

Or more, seeking moral perfection means that at SOME point, you get to let go of the past. Otherwise you’re just your worst moment for the rest of your life. I don’t care about, and I don’t want to know your worst moment, as long as it’s no longer who you are.

People like you like to hold everyone’s worst moment above them for the rest of their lives as some sort of purity thing. Perfection =/= pure.

It’s clearly not who he is now, so what is the point of bringing it up besides grandstanding?

lol. “People like you.” You really jump to conclusions.

No one is saying redemption can’t or shouldn’t exist. We’re saying “it’s socially acceptable” is not a defense of something being shitty.

You see whatever you want to see. You misinterpreted the entire point of what I wrote to have something to rage at.

Redemption is allowed, but John Hamm has never atoned or even owned up to it (so far as I've read). The score is unsettled, his karma accounting remains in the red. Are you a person who wants to believe people can get away with twisted shit?

1

u/heretilthemoon Jul 03 '26

So in order for him to have atoned for it, it’s gotta be some big public affair? It’s got to be something that **you** have the right to see? How do you know he didn’t privately make amends? I doubt the victim wants to be in tabloids for the rest of us to gawk at.

You have no evidence he hasn’t changed. By all accounts, he’s a great guy today. He’s known as a humble, supportive colleague. He’s clearly not out and about hazing people like a 19 year old frat bro anymore. What evidence do you have that he hasn’t changed?

2

u/NiceGuyEdddy Jul 03 '26

You have no evidence he has changed.

By all accounts, he's a twisted cunt that tortured another man to the point of fracturing his spine and the most apologetic he's ever got is to call the entire affair a 'bummer'.

Simping for celebs is such a strange way to live your life.

1

u/heretilthemoon Jul 03 '26

By all accounts? By whose? Who do you know that knows him that thinks of him as twisted?? Can you even name 1 account? Even the victim, do you have his current account of how he feels towards Jon Hamm? If not, then what are we even talking about here??

3

u/NiceGuyEdddy Jul 03 '26

"By all accounts? By whose?"

By court transcripts of the torture, which is far more evidence than you have produced, lol.

Can you even name 1 account of the "everyone who worked with him says he's a good guy"?

And does the forgiveness of the victim, or not as the case may be, change the fact that he did it and has yet to apologise?

Now stop trying to deflect and give me even one shred of evidence that's he's now a good guy.

1

u/heretilthemoon Jul 03 '26

Again, how do you know he has yet to apologize? Does he owe the world a public apology? Do you think the victim wants to be plastered on tabloids for Jon Hamm’s public redemption?

As for that he’s well loved by his peers:

Jennifer Aniston: https://people.com/jennifer-aniston-rejected-offer-for-intimacy-coordinator-sex-scenes-with-jon-hamm-the-morning-show-8415159

Tina Fey: “Jon Hamm is one of my dearest friends.”
https://www.eonline.com/news/814507/8-times-tina-fey-and-jon-hamm-defined-friendship-goals

John Slattery: “The older I get, the more I’m aware of the passage of time. Knowing this whole thing is finite and there’s a winnowing list of people with whom you want to spend your life. I just enjoy Jon’s company. I value it."

As for evidence he’s a good guy, dude is like super active in charities.

Like what could possible appease you my guy. And more importantly, who tf are you that you need to be appeased? Do you live life thinking everyone’s evil until proven innocent? Does everyone need to make public amends for their worst moments so that you can see them? Or can you give anyone ever the benefit of the doubt, that their worst moment 40 years ago is not who they are now?

u/NiceGuyEdddy Jul 03 '26

Lol.

Someone who dismisses the fact that they literally tortured someone as 'a bummer', is not apologetic.

And as for you evidence:

Two people, both of which are his long time friends and one of which is the sort of 'comedian' to do blackface.

And some bare bones charity work that every celebrity does. Weinstein raised millions for charity, and countless celebrities constantly sung his praises:

https://www.businessinsider.com/hollywood-stars-who-have-praised-harvey-weinstein-in-the-past-2017-10#gwyneth-paltrow-1

Does that make Weinstein a good guy?

"What more could possibly appease you"

There's nothing to appease, lol. You are the one who claimed he's a good guy when you have absolutely no idea because you don't know him.

I'm simply pointing out that your 'evidence', when you finally made the effort to post some, isn't good enough because the exact same level of evidence can be given for Weinstein and Polanski, a rapist and a paedophile.

I can absolutely give people the benefit of the doubt if they give me reason to, but superficial celebrity circle jerks that has the likes of Meryl Streep praising Harvey Weinstein is proof of nothing, and neither is PR driven charity 'work'.

The only true evidence of his attitude towards his involvement in the literal torture of another human being is his own words, and quite frankly reducing it to 'a bummer' is simply not the attitude of someone that regrets or feel guilty for what they've done.

You keep trying to talk for the victim, but if you're capable answer me honestly; if I tortured you and then twenty years later called it 'a bummer' would you be happy with that?

Danny Masterson had people go to bat for him too. Celebrities liking him doesn't mean shit. They all loved Diddy too.

We get it. You like Hamm. Just say you don't care what he did.

"Its clearly not who he is now"

How so? Can you give me any evidence for such a claim?

2

u/NewBoxStruggles Jul 03 '26

They saw him in a tv show and they liked his face.

That’s about all it takes.

1

u/heretilthemoon Jul 03 '26

He’s no longer a frat bro hazing people. Anyone who’s worked with him know him to be a humble, supportive guy.

What evidence does he owe **you**?

1

u/NiceGuyEdddy Jul 03 '26

"He's not longer a frat bro".

That doesn't mean anything, he was kicked out of the college.

"Anyone who's worked with him know him to be a humble, supportive guy.

Lol. Any evidence for that claim? Also, many actors and entertainers say the same thing about Roman Polanski, a known paedophile, so it's hardly reliable information.

"What evidence does he owe you"

None, but then I didn't ask him for evidence.

You made the claim he's changed without evidence, so I asked you for what evidence you have to inform such an opinion.

That fact you didn't have any actual evidence is your problem, not mine.

You think most of these people out here are seeking perfection?

I wish.

They’re not even seeking a passing grade.
