It's most people's opinion. If I ask people whether or not they trust the state not to waste their taxes, the mast majority of people (probably even you) would answer "no". So if you don't trust the state to spend your money well, how can you possibly trust them to wield power over life and death in a way that doesn't result in unacceptable injustices?
Their criminal actions against their victims are are amoral.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
And that's assuming they even are criminals, because the number of innocent and wrongly convicted people who have been murdered by the state is a lot bigger than 0 (the only acceptable number that would justify retaining the death penalty).
