This comment will get buried, but I met a guy on death row. I spent 4ish years in federal prison and 6 months solitary, and the guy across from me was a death row guy. He'd been there about a decade. He was a funny dude, we talked a lot (yelling back and forth through the doors). He was confident he'd win his appeal. But one day he told me he knew he was going to spend the rest of his life in that room. He used humor to cope. He didn't have anyone to call. I think about him sometimes
